Chris love your vids keep it up just a quick tip for using your saw... your holding it wrong... when holding the saw put your index finger forward of your grip. If you look, on the handle of your saw there's actually a black im assuming rubber type place for your finger to go... it gives you more control over your saw and also remember to use the hole length of the saw blade and kind of let the saw do the work by that I mean don't use it like an axe don't push down too hard on the saw you will just make it harder for yourself just guid the saw along your cut with a little down pressurebut a firm grip. Another quick tip for you if the wood your cutting is wet or damp... it can help if you rub candle wax on either side of yoursaw it stops the wood gripping your blade as easy. Hope this helps mate and as I've said keep up the Quality vids.

Just a thought guys but have you considered mounting a computer cooling fan in front of wooden steps to move air and reduce condensation. Very very low amps and very quiet. I mounted one on box bed in motor home to stop damp on base of mattress.

I'm very pleased for you that there seems to be no leak, so maybe you were spot on saying the water was condensation. Becca what an amazing job you made of re-scaling your onboard toilet. It looks great now in the smaller version. Chris, with any saw of that size you need to spray it before you start sawing with Mr Sheen (other Furniture polishes are available) and your saw will glide thru the wood easily. Do it on every usage. Loving the edit as always, and knowing all the time and hard work you put into it, and it certainly shows. Great to hear a smidgeon of Dramatic music as well as what appeared to be another dramatic piece? The sound effects are spot on, even if they last just a second. You two are the best. Maybe consider trying the thruster, and see if it leaks when under load or turned on, try both directions for a good 10 secs, if you get nothing it’s a good sign of no thrusterleaks

Just found your channel and I’m loving it. Can’t stand people who don’t like people who are happy and having a good laugh,you keep singing and strumming your guitar Chris…..ignore the haters. It’s good practice a bit of strumming anyway for extra curricular activities,hey Bex 😉 if you know you know 😊. I’d have to say condensation especially as it’s right next to your Fire,maybe it needs painting in there with a protection coating of some sort of Paint ?. Keep the Cold of the Canal out ? Plus some ventilation in the steps when they are fitted back on ?. Bugger that with a manual saw when you can have a portable battery operated one these days ! Either that or a Chainsaw 🤷♂️. I’m not far from Huntingdon and I was originally from Sawston near Cambridge,not many canal boats round the rivers where I was but we used to have plenty of fun with the Punts and the people who hired them Lol 😂. Had a boating holiday many years ago on the broads with my Dad and it was pretty epic,so much so we had another one the next year,great memories of that ❤. Not particularly in a position to own a Canal boat or live on one but I would if I could,cos even with all the problems it looks like a lot of Fun to be had. Oh if only I could win the lottery. For the batteries Chris if they are connected you undo and remove the negative terminal first and if they are disconnected and you are refitting the batteries you connect the positive terminal first. Now you know bud lol
There see it has to be condensation. Are you still going to seal and paint in that area, may as well do the battery compartment at the same time. I SO hate painting and especially in places like that water tank and the bow thruster area, I can’t do confined spaces nor do I handle being held by the ankles, weird one that and I don’t know why. Some people are just jealous, l loved your singing, OK Becc’s next but we all know she’s multi talented. Chris Henri said to anchor your timber and your saw will work but to be honest I think you were having a lend of us and you know that. LOL. Again you’ve kept me laughing, ta guys. Lots of corrosion everywhere on your Narra', maybe consider some new metal being welded to the inner bow section. That battery box needs urgent work and just for advice, never tip a battery on its side because inside the bottom of the battery is a ledge where bits drop off from inside the battery, by tipping the battery on its side causes the bits to damage the innards of the battery making it not last as long. About 4 years for most batteries. Now I know why you wear marigolds, to keep those fingers supple while you practise your David Brent guitaring.

Chris why don’t you vactan then paint the bow thruster area. Then when paint is dry insulate it with foil bubble wrap. That should stop the condensation.
could you put a go pro down there and see if you can film any drips or water build up? also maybe put some insulation on the pipe that has canal water in it. This should reduce the amount of area thats cold
I said the same to Chris actually because I've got a go pro. The idea is to let it dry out, paint it with some sort of protective paint and then insulate it so fingers crossed that all oughta do it!
Another brilliant video, I only watch your channel and narrow escape, tried the others but didn't like them, the wood looked wet that's why it didn't cut well, I've got a draper garden saw and that cuts any thing

I enjoy you and the spiders so much my son has a pet tarantula he keeps in an aquarium in his bedroom so everytime you see a spider 🕷 it brings a smile to my face. I worked as an EMT here in America for many years once a man called the ambulance for a airplane in his ear at 3 am well after taking him to the emergency room found out he had a roach living in his ear that was flapping it’s wings making him Hear a plane in his head? So I think of this guy every time you look for the spiders. Maybe use foam ear plugs at night for the peace of mind it will give you? Yeah, the romantic life on a narrowboat. Doing number 2 in a pile of sawdust, a shower with no presure so dripping yourself clean basicly and fixing one thing after another. I know. I lived on a boat for 10 + years, my mam and dad wanted to go chartering on the mediterranean with a Dutch brown ship as the are called. Because of the brown sails not the toilet. Anyway, soldier on, because the got the boat up and running perfectly after years and years of work. And then the went farming......... Even if it doesn't work out, and it will!! youre building on capital. And then you sell youre boat and buy a little house somewhere, and build that. Experience and a great adventure. What more do you want? So, on you go!

Bit less of an angle on the saw more across ways than down towards the ground and gentler the saw does most of the work you just follow< camp the wood is good too. keep at the boat you are getting there

For those who don't like your singing, you can threaten to sing some Vogon poetry. If the moisture is condensation, you might want to consider coating the metal so that it doesn't rust. That would probably have to be some sort of spray, but better ask an expert before Crobotting it, then having to unCrobot it again.

The problem with your saw is you. Let the saw do the cutting! Use a shallow angle and don't force it! You could also use a Japanese saw that cuts on the pull stroke, but make sure it is made in Japan, not some American made knock off!

Hi Bob, wow that's so expensive, I get the impression that that's why a lot of boaters are moving away from pump outs now as it's soon racks up. At the moment being on the marina we are able to dispose of our waste in the facilities there however we are thinking of installing a big composting bin perhaps in the engine bay to reduce it down for when we are on the cut. It sounds disgusting but is actually meant to be nowhere near as bad as you would think! We are still sort of trying to figure that out at the moment!

Apart from boat building not done right grrr Bow thrusters add on a get rich scheme that is another major headache for boaters. The 12v power systems on boats are a big problem Equipment failure happens because of voltage drop. With a bow thruster tube not only do you get it rust but you can get a cavitation hole punched through it by using it. I would not want to buy a boat with one fitted by choice if I had to then I get plates welded over each end. You use the Indian rope trick methods to get you off banks. One step forward two back continues for you. A very expensive no survey may be not in money but certainly in time and efforts. Boats are over inflated at the moment by £10k + because of the energy crisis. That said boats in marinas are hurting those with property as well prices will drop at some point since government not subsidising gas and electric any more. Keep calm and carry on.
our bow thruster area seams very pointless at the moment as its not even working, just problem after problem , boats do seam to lack a bit in build quality, and im sure were not helping to that theory with our refit, but were trying our best, yes a lot of people are beating us to boat cruising...but will get there one day thanks David

Maybe consider trying the thruster, and see if it leaks when under load or turned on, try both directions for a good 10 secs, if you get nothing it’s a good sign of no thrusterleaks

I’d have to say condensation especially as it’s right next to your Fire,maybe it needs painting in there with a protection coating of some sort of Paint ?. Keep the Cold of the Canal out ? Plus some ventilation in the steps when they are fitted back on ?.
Bugger that with a manual saw when you can have a portable battery operated one these days ! Either that or a Chainsaw 🤷♂️.
I’m not far from Huntingdon and I was originally from Sawston near Cambridge,not many canal boats round the rivers where I was but we used to have plenty of fun with the Punts and the people who hired them Lol 😂.
Had a boating holiday many years ago on the broads with my Dad and it was pretty epic,so much so we had another one the next year,great memories of that ❤.
Not particularly in a position to own a Canal boat or live on one but I would if I could,cos even with all the problems it looks like a lot of Fun to be had.
Oh if only I could win the lottery.

Hi Leonard, thanks for doing us on our adventure, I dont think I could change if I tried haha there's always one sour grape..I actually find it quite funny and it shows people care. we are actually just in the process of working out how to paint it in there..and then also adding som sort of installation maybe? and a vent. For the batteries Chris if they are connected you undo and remove the negative terminal first and if they are disconnected and you are refitting the batteries you connect the positive terminal first. Now you know bud lol

There see it has to be condensation. Are you still going to seal and paint in that area, may as well do the battery compartment at the same time. I SO hate painting and especially in places like that water tank and the bow thruster area, I can’t do confined spaces nor do I handle being held by the ankles, weird one that and I don’t know why. Some people are just jealous, l loved your singing, OK Becc’s next but we all know she’s multi talented. Chris Henri said to anchor your timber and your saw will work but to be honest I think you were having a lend of us and you know that. LOL. Again you’ve kept me laughing, ta guys. Lots of corrosion everywhere on your Narra', maybe consider some new metal being welded to the inner bow section. That battery box needs urgent work and just for advice, never tip a battery on its side because inside the bottom of the battery is a ledge where bits drop off from inside the battery, by tipping the battery on its side causes the bits to damage the innards of the battery making it not last as long. About 4 years for most batteries. Now I know why you wear marigolds, to keep those fingers supple while you practise your David Brent guitaring.

Chris why don’t you vactan then paint the bow thruster area. Then when paint is dry insulate it with foil bubble wrap. That should stop the condensation.
we do want to coat the area, but when its fully dry, then start putting som installation in and a fe vents , thanks for your suggestions

could you put a go pro down there and see if you can film any drips or water build up? also maybe put some insulation on the pipe that has canal water in it. This should reduce the amount of area thats cold
I said the same to Chris actually because I've got a go pro. The idea is to let it dry out, paint it with some sort of protective paint and then insulate it so fingers crossed that all oughta do it!

Another brilliant video, I only watch your channel and narrow escape, tried the others but didn't like them, the wood looked wet that's why it didn't cut well, I've got a draper garden saw and that cuts any thing
thanks for the support , there are a lot of great ones but we rarely get the chance to watch with all the work, the wood wasn't massively wet, I feel it may have been my technique ?

I enjoy you and the spiders so much my son has a pet tarantula he keeps in an aquarium in his bedroom so everytime you see a spider 🕷 it brings a smile to my face. I worked as an EMT here in America for many years once a man called the ambulance for a airplane in his ear at 3 am well after taking him to the emergency room found out he had a roach living in his ear that was flapping it’s wings making him Hear a plane in his head? So I think of this guy every time you look for the spiders. Maybe use foam ear plugs at night for the peace of mind it will give you? My son says spiders eat other spiders so maybe release a big pet one on the boat them problem solved because it’s to big to crawl into the nose or ears. Best wishes, Susan

Yeah, the romantic life on a narrowboat. Doing number 2 in a pile of sawdust, a shower with no presure so dripping yourself clean basicly and fixing one thing after another. I know. I lived on a boat for 10 + years, my mam and dad wanted to go chartering on the mediterranean with a Dutch brown ship as the are called. Because of the brown sails not the toilet. Anyway, soldier on, because the got the boat up and running perfectly after years and years of work.
And then the went farming.........
Even if it doesn't work out, and it will!! youre building on capital. And then you sell youre boat and buy a little house somewhere, and build that. Experience and a great adventure. What more do you want? So, on you go!

Bit less of an angle on the saw more across ways than down towards the ground and gentler the saw does most of the work you just follow< camp the wood is good too. keep at the boat you are getting there

If the moisture is condensation, you might want to consider coating the metal so that it doesn't rust. That would probably have to be some sort of spray, but better ask an expert before Crobotting it, then having to unCrobot it again.
now there's an idea, that will change things up, thats actually a great idea, I think some sort of coating will probably be a must thanks Peter...we dont want any uncroboating going on here

The problem with your saw is you. Let the saw do the cutting! Use a shallow angle and don't force it! You could also use a Japanese saw that cuts on the pull stroke, but make sure it is made in Japan, not some American made knock off!

Hi Bob, wow that's so expensive, I get the impression that that's why a lot of boaters are moving away from pump outs now as it's soon racks up. At the moment being on the marina we are able to dispose of our waste in the facilities there however we are thinking of installing a big composting bin perhaps in the engine bay to reduce it down for when we are on the cut. It sounds disgusting but is actually meant to be nowhere near as bad as you would think! We are still sort of trying to figure that out at the moment!

Apart from boat building not done right grrr
Bow thrusters add on a get rich scheme that is another major headache for boaters.
The 12v power systems on boats are a big problem
Equipment failure happens because of voltage drop.
With a bow thruster tube not only do you get it rust but you can get a cavitation hole punched through it by using it.
I would not want to buy a boat with one fitted by choice if I had to then I get plates welded over each end.
You use the Indian rope trick methods to get you off banks.
One step forward two back continues for you. A very expensive no survey may be not in money but certainly in time and efforts.
Boats are over inflated at the moment by £10k + because of the energy crisis. That said boats in marinas are hurting those with property as well prices will drop at some point since government not subsidising gas and electric any more.
Keep calm and carry on.
our bow thruster area seams very pointless at the moment as its not even working, just problem after problem , boats do seam to lack a bit in build quality, and im sure were not helping to that theory with our refit, but were trying our best, yes a lot of people are beating us to boat cruising...but will get there one day thanks David
