I (23M) lost my home and was cut off by my parents when I was 18, almost 5 years ago. Right from my childhood, I had a very troubled relationship with my parents, and I could tell that I was not somebody who was wanted. Whenever I was little, I would try to get them to love me and gain their affections but when I realized that it was pointless, I stopped trying and started minding my own business instead. I think that change started taking place around the time of middle school or high school. By high school, I would only ever speak to my parents when I needed something and wouldn’t bother them otherwise. It was not that I did not want to relationship with them, it’s just that they had made it so obvious to me that they did not want a relationship with me that I felt bad even trying to bother them, when I needed something, even though I knew that I could not rely on anybody else, and I only had them.
