Thank you so much. This was exactly video I was looking for. I bought the studio and after watching a handful of videos, I felt like I made a mistake because I am not a creator. My workflow is similar to yours and all my apps stay open was I start using them. So thank you for this practical advice and I can now enjoy my studio w/o any buyers remorse.
Thank you for taking the time to comment, Tina. No need for buyer's remorse. It's a fantastic machine and definitely adds to the productivity of any power user, even if we are not creatives 😉. I hope you get a lot of enjoyment and productivity from it 👍
Nice video and thanks for not being a video editor, it makes a refreshing change not to hear Premier Pro or Final Cut mentioned. I have a very old, well 8 year old Mac Book Pro, this has reached the end of the line with regard to Mac OS updates, the MBP gets used for just about everything but mostly photo editing via Lightroom (NOT Photoshop which I don't use at all), now with my photo files getting ever larger the old MBP is getting a bit tired and a bit hot around the edges, so I will upgrade to the Studio in the next few weeks. I already have a keyboard, mouse and screen which are connected to the MBP so only need the Studio. My plan is to get the base model but increase storage to 1tb (maybe 2tb) but leave everything else as standard, if anyone has reservations about this please feel free to chip in with some other configurations. Thanks for any feedback/input.
Thanks for taking the time to comment Martin 👍. Honestly, I am so exited for you 😊. The base configuration with 1 or 2 tb I think offers good value. But the performance vs your current setup will just be 😳😊. I hope you enjoy it for many years when you get it. BTW I haven't edited for over a year now but my editor of choice (which isn't even loaded onto this machine) is Adobe Rush, something nice and simple like my editing skills 😂.
Got mine recently w/ 64 gig of unified ram and 1 TB SSD because I do photography editing, along with the sort of business apps you mentioned. My experience with the first M1 machines (both MBP and iMac) was that the 16 gig of unified memory was not enough with either LightRoom or Capture One. Started having memory leak issues with both software products. I also have the Studio Display as well and together it makes a wonderful pairing that I hope will last for years. I have zero issues with any fan noise.
Thanks for taking the time to comment; John, you're right about the M1 issues and the excellent paring of the Mac Studio and the studio display. I hope you have many productive years with that setup 👍
Thank you for this video. It's frustrating to watch dozens of video editing videos, telling myself 'I don't do this. I want to know what else it does and what it doesn't do'.
Just had to return my Mac Studio because it was making a very high pitched metallic sound mostly at idle. I think I will wait a bit to try and buy it again, seen a lot of people online complain of the same issue.
Hey, thank you for the comment, and I really like your channel and content, keep up the excellent work 👍. Regarding the issue, it's fascinating. I would love to have done a side by side comparison with mine 😂 because, as I mentioned in this video, it is defiantly not silent 🤔. Before reading your message, I was working with noise-cancelling headphones on listening to music, but in taking them off, I was like, oh yeah, I can hear a high pitched constant sound at idle. It's not too loud but definitely audible. It's such a shame because I feel the studio is a massive step up from your mini. P.S. the more I am listening to the studio noise as I type this, the more it is annoying me 😂.
@@AlexSamuels ooh no hope yours isn’t suffering from the same issue. The few days I had mine I installed TG pro and if I turned down the fans to 1100rpm the sound went away. But then I decided having a work around for a machine that’s over $2,000 isn’t worth it.
@@rockinromanphoto it is having the same issue 😕, I didn't think it was actually an issue as I'm used to hearing some fan noise especially on a powerful computer. Thanks for this video. I got a Studio because my Mini with 8GB was too small for work. I am a software developer. I had exactly the same issues, browser or editors struggling. I had high (yellow) memory pressure and slow response time. Since getting the base Studio all of this has disappeared.
Thanks for taking the time to comment Jerry 👍. It sort of annoys me that there is not a way to realise how much the Mac System is struggling and actually for that matter how powerful a system you need, it's sort of a guess. Honestly, just thinking it though, when I sign up for broadband there is a calculator to say what are your needs here is a suggestion of the speed that works for you, I ignore that because I just want the fastest upload speed possible but I like the idea. Could apple not have a processor calculator and say these devices might work best for you 🤔.
@@AlexSamuels Some sort of calculator would have been nice. But people's needs do change over time. I try to get something that I think will work for the next 2 years. Especially when the tech is new like Apple Silicon and subject to fast improvement as the engineers figure out how to optimize it.
@@JBoy340a I think your right but honestly I'm expecting more to come from third party software improvements also. Good job Alex, Some of us were left without a choice since the 5k iMac would no longer update. That said, the Mac Studio has done well so far without any noticeable issues. I can not hear any fans, but then again, I have not pushed it to the limit and don't think I ever will. The increased speed is evident - love it. The only issue is with the studio display camera. I am told a fix is in the pipeline. Other than that, great system and I love the updated ports, a big improvement from a very old 5k iMac.
I am wondering if the fan noise is a quality control issue because mine makes a noise always 🤔. Re the camera 🙈, I think im getting a studio display next week bur the camera will never be great 😔 IMHO, it might be better but they have put an ultra wide Web cam in a not massive monitor. The beta software for the camera software looks like a marginal improvement it will be fine for a Web cam but don't get your hopes up. I hope you are enjoying using your new mac studio setup 👌. Apple always put too little flash memory in their base model iPhones and Macs. I would recommend buying the base model of the Mac Studio but with 1 or 2 Tb instead of the default none upgradable 0.5 Tb of Flash memory. One additional advantage of buying a larger SSD that I discovered is that the larger Apple SSDs are faster.
I think that's a really good point Paul about the memory being non upgradable 👍. I think a motto like if insure go for more would work well 🤔😉. In my particular case though today I have over 365 GB free and there is no way I will use anymore than about an extra 150 GB.
