- Intro song to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Anytime I wanted to listen to the song I'd come here, but an HD version of could never be found. Alas, here it is!
Enjoy.

When the film was still in development, Douglas Adams wrote a letter to the studio execs saying he’d really like to be involved but had been having trouble reaching them. He ended the letter with, “Anyway, I’ve included a few phone numbers by which you can reach me. If still can’t reach me, I shall know that you are trying very hard not to.” followed by two pages’ worth of phone numbers that included places like “Restaurants I Might Conceivably Be At” and “Supermarkets I’ve Been Known To Shop At”. 😂
No replies? Hell, I've looked at ALL of these numbers as well as all the emergency numbers such as 911 and 000 and oh my and all I want is the phone numbers of the dolphins who are leaving this planet! Help!
Adams co-wrote the screenplay with Karey Kirkpatrick but died in 2001, before production began. Kirkpatrick used what notes Adams had left, finding that Adams was willing to go off the book's narrative to adapt to the film. He considered his screenplay something in the spirit that Adams had set out based on the whole of Adams' work. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was released in 2005.
Silly
And then they had him whacked with the heart attack gun.
By my count, there's the original radio play, the television miniseries, the books, the text adventure video game, and this movie. No two are alike. They pretty much always start with Arthur waking up, sitting in front of the bulldozer, going to the pub and being beamed up by vogons with Ford, then being ejected into space to only be very improbably picked up by the Heart of Gold with Zaphod and Trillian. Paths diverge from there, sometimes going on the same adventures in different orders, or throwing in unique ones.
And yet somehow no version is definitive or "canon." Because somehow it doesn't matter. It's really just a vehicle for Addams to opine and satirize over. @@VladMarkov
In the beginning the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very unhappy and has widely been seen as a bad move.
you're a bad move
What? it's not his movie, are you sure your english is alright?
I need to admit the movie is so fucking awesome i loved it but the ones who have read the book may have a good argument about the plot but the music, the camera, the narrator made this movie an awesome piece worth two or three rewatches
Rokdri i read the book then the movie and love both equally. The whole point of both was how hilarious they are!
Don't Panic
Important note: The dolphins depicted in this film actually had voice actors sing their lines, as their voices were too valuable to waste on a movie.
Also, as implied in the song, they had not yet learned to sing.
No dolphins were harmed when the Earth was destroyed during the making of the film.
2 defeats - The Miami Dolphins😂
You know you're in for a trip of a film, when it starts with dolphins singing about the end of the world
and then proceeding to fly into space

I just finished reading Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Can't believe it took me 42 years before I finally read it.
Sounds like precisely the correct amount of time, units notwithstanding.
42! Perfect timing 😉🙃
Precisely the correct time. I myself read it at 21 which is the half of 42. Hence I must have known the meaning to life, the universe and everything in half the time you did. But now that you know, you know.
But did you figure out why 42 is the meaning to life the universe and everything? 😂😂😂😂
Ok, your comment make laugh.
"The world's about to be destroyed, no reason getting all annoyed; Lie back and let the planet dissolve around you"

When I was in the eighth grade, I did a presentation on Douglas Adams for this project and I showed this video. A few people laughed but it was arguably the most awkward moment in my entire life. I got ten points taken off for that. Totally worth it, though.
+Meara Phelps Whoever took away ten points from you should have their teaching license revoked.
+NYCPunk it meant so much to me that I think I overstepped the blurred lines of relevance with the addition of the video, at least in her eyes. Thanks for sharing my spite though haha
some people just don't get comedy
if you Google "Meara Phelps Prezi" you can see the presentation haha
The presentation made me sad. I hadn't seen that interview yet. Great work, though. When I was in 7th grade, I did a book project on The Guide. I was given a D because the teacher was convinced, but couldn't prove, that I copied it from NPR. My response (keep in mind I was 13 when I did this), "What's NPR?"
"If I had just one last wish, I would like a tasty fish" I felt that.

The narration should have read like this:
On the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much - the wheel, New York, wars and so on - whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man - for precisely the same reasons.
I can imagine. I attempted to watch the movie and couldn't go through it after about 10 minutes seeing how far off from the book they went.
Um, the movie was meant to be a big middle finger to the original fans in the first place. In his later life, Duoglas became a very toxic atheist because of evolution theory. That's something everyone wants to forget and the movie willingly adapted it. It's even mentioned in this very song.
I like turtles toxic atheist for believing in evolution???
I like turtles Wot?
@@iliketurtles2531 Here we observe a very offended Christian, who is triggered by the fact that atheists exist. Chill out man, atheists are fine as long as they don't harm you. And,might I ask, where did you get the "toxic" part?

but...they will be very grateful for all our fish, so see, there is an upside.

Sorry to disappoint you, buddy. I'm posting this comment right now September 2020, and the world right now is seriously FCKD!
You know how respected this song should be?
- It should be nominated an Osar, an Emmy and alot of other things for best song.
- This must be played in every seafood restaurant in the world once a day
- This song should also be played 12 minutes before the end of class, work, etc and the end of the world
- Any water park with dolphin attractions in it should play this song
- It also should win alot of Grammys
Also whenever a animal that eats fish (including humans) is sent into space this song plays louder than the actual rocket
Agree with all of them, except the water parks; those need to close down (and I'm pretty sure the late Douglas Adams would agree.)
@@deltav864 pretty sure that as a libertarian, he would have said that people should be able to do what they like, including going to a water park.
@@joeduffy6851 I think that as an environmental activist he would've despised the parks if he knew the animal abuse associated with it.
@@deltav864 I wouldn't know, I've been to many water parks here in Europe and none that I've been to have had live animals. I'm sure they exist, but live animal performances are not inherent to the existence of water parks. Just a bunch of hoomans drinking each others' pee 🙃
This was where I knew I'd absolutely love this movie, no matter what differences there were from the book.
I really wish more people would read this book, or actually, just books in general. This is a fantastic one.
OstracizedEmu I order a book which is all 5 books
I just came in the mail
OstracizedEmu The book is amazing. Not just the comedy, but it builds a world around the characters so amazingly. Making it feel like things could go on without those characters, but at the same time making it feel like the characters are the key-element to the story. The movie was disappointing to be honest and I can't say it's just the fact that world building in movies is hard, but the fact they got rid of key comedic moments that built upon the first book's greatness. The casting was--I would say for the most part--good, thought I'm still iffy on Zaphod's performance and special FX. The things they changed weren't terrible, but they weren't good either. And watching it with someone who never read any of the books, I figured it wasn't just me who didn't particularly get a good laugh. Maybe a small chuckle here and there, but nothing boisterous like I commonly would at the book.
Now, I must go. So long, and thanks for all the fish.
person o' stuff Because the movie was decent does'nt mean it's bad. This movie is underrated than other movies that we know today such as IT and other book-to-movie adaptations, which they're overrated at least. Well, the book has many errors when I read the book with the Ñ letter on each word but I believe it's the best. The movie was not bad but the BBC series is much remarkable than the movie.
I read the book it was great

"It's an important and popular fact that things are not always what they seem. For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was the most intelligent species occupying the planet, instead of the third most intelligent. The second most intelligent creatures, were of course dolphins who, curiously enough, had long known of the impending destruction of the planet Earth. They had made many attempts to alert mankind to the danger, but most of their communications were misinterpreted as amusing attempts to punch footballs or whistle for titbits. So they eventually decided they would leave Earth by their own means. The last ever dolphin message was misinterpreted as a surprisingly sophisticated attempt to do a double-backwards somersault through a hoop while whistling "the Star-Spangled Banner", but in fact, the message was this: [dolphin freeze-frames in mid-air] "So long, and thanks for all the fish!"
