Edit: Grading is also an artificial way to make something rare. Having a low population number on a grading service does not mean an item is rare. It means that specific item in that condition and actually graded is rare(for now). But there might be someone sitting at home with a tote full of those items in mint condition ungraded. Another reason for low population items is that there is simply not a market or demand for that item graded. Not mad that grading is an option, but it is not for me.

Had both those as a kid. Wish I still had Jetfire. Actually got it not because it was a Transformer but because the model it was taken from was from the famous anime,Macross from 1982. Some of the early Transformers and Battletech stuff was taken from Macross before Harmony Gold stepped in got their grubby paws on it.
Always look forward to Saturday mornings to see what toy federation has been up to. I love a good negotiation that both party's are happy with. Very nice pick up!

I really like the way he gets on the ground to inspect and consider the value of the toy. Just like a kid would when he got it home from the store and opened it and began playing with it.
Having a MIB Jetfire in my collection, especially amongst my vintage Macross toys, is a must. Picked one up about 15 years ago at a consignment toy shop. He's always been my favorite character since his debut in the cartoon and the fact that his toy was just a repainted Robotech VF-1S was even better since I also became a big Robotech fan after it aired in the US. I think it's so awesome that we live in a time when we are getting great renditions of both versions. I grabbed the Takara Megatron reissue in the dual box packaging with the Pat Lee artwork a few years ago. As cool as the original box version looks, I like the reissue so much better.
What makes Jet Fire the coolest Transformer is that the figure is a repurposed Macross Valkyrie. Robotech which was renamed American Macross never released a figure as cool as what ended up being Jet Fire
Pretty cool, I don't really care how people collect, opened, sealed, graded, etc. It can all be neat and fun, but my only thing is that grading these days is a total craps shoot. There's been tons of controversy within the grading companies, that my trust in their grades has plummeted, though this is more true of what I've been hearing from the card and comic grading companies. On top of that, a lot of times if people didn't like the grade, they'd crack the case and send it back hoping for a higher grade. Its always a risk, because they could get a higher grade, or they could get a lower grade. It goes to show that there's no real metric to grading, your item is just at the mercy of the opinion of whoever's lap it falls on.
Jetfire was my all time favorite toy, Transformer, or Robotech. That fact that I loved Robotech made this figure even more special. I was very poor as a kid and my parents could never afford to buy it for me. I remember seeing it on the shelf at a grocery store of all places, priced at $19.99....yes, $19.99! This was in 1987. But my mom just looked at me and told me she was sorry because we didn't have any money to but it. Years later, I would often search for Jetfire all over Ebay but to me he was always overpriced. Finally, last year I decided to pull the trigger and buy one from Ebay. I paid $420 for it, in the box, 100% complete with armor and gun clip. The package arrived and Jetfire was immaculate, stickers had not even been applied. But I realized the seller (or whomever owned it before) had remodeled the toy, including paint, tightening joints, etc. And then I noticed that one of his head antennas was broken. Nevertheless, it was a great figure and I finally own him and display him proudly on my shelf.
I have a Jetfire that's still snow white. Still have box and it was played with and taken care of and always put back in box when done playing with. The only Transformer that I owned.
Awesome pick ups. 3K was a fair price for those. A friend of mine has that Megatron graded as well. I can definitely say they look super nice in the acrylic cases. Great video as always. I enjoy these deal making ones
I have Jetfire’s box, styrofoam, instructions, paperwork, unused sticker sheet, and gun clip but no Jetfire. I’m always on the lookout for a white Jetfire with no decals on it.
This makes me feel really good about my Jetfire. I got a minty fresh canadian variant for under $500. It was in the box, which was beat, but it is one of the cleanest, whitest examples I have seen. It looks brand new. Definitely one of my holy grail pieces. I have thought about sending the figure in for grading, but after watching this, I think I'll just keep it to myself. I don't see myself ever selling anyway. I grew up on this stuff. I collect for sentiment, not commerce.

Seeing sort of thing makes me lament not saving the boxes with my original Transformers. Of course no one really is in the moment. I do distinctly remember the rounded plastic section on Jetfire that holds the metal joints at the shoulders where he folds in robot mode breaking. My dad tried a few times trying to reglue but it would keep snapping in those spots. Common design flaw from what I’ve heard from others. Yamato corrected the design when they did their Macross figures in the same scale. Question: the wife and I are going to be coming up your way in early April on our way to Asheville. I want to see about unloading some stuff that I don’t display anymore and free up some storage. Do I need to call ahead or just stop by? Thanks.
I’ve gone in to sell stuff before! I just messaged him on Facebook with the stuff and he said he was interested. I also have called in and that worked as well
Imagine buying a vintage sports car sealed in a clear cube. We need to break all the graded toys free from their sterile, adult-brain-invented prisons-a vintage toy revolution.
I owned nearly every 1st gen Transformer and my mother kept all the boxes after opening the toys. Then we moved and we lost all the boxes. Next when I was older I was keeping all my Transformers in storage. I needed money so I decided to sell them but when I went to collect the toys I had discovered my mother’s husband had thrown everything out during a bulk junk collection. That was roughly $3,000.00 in Transformers gone. All I have left are the original G1 Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Warpath, Hound, Seaspray, Cosmos, and the first MP Bumblebee.
That IS a pretty generous offer. I think most fair people do offer 50% but I don't think you low-ball your customers and thought you might initially go with 2500 and go as high as 2750 because you added value with the shipper. $3000 right out of the gate and firm, yup, I definitely think that's a great offer.
I'm not a big fan of things being sealed and graded myself. Especially toys that are supposed to be played with. And it adds more difficulty in pricing, as shown here. But, it is interesting to watch, nonetheless. SEARS won't be around much longer, so that Megatron might go up in value.
I collect robot toys and Lego, have 2 of the Jetfire MIB in my collection. Also have a loose one which I bought back in 1985 at a local store and surprisingly still in one piece till this day, although it turned yellow due to me placing it beside the window. The 2 MIB sets were bought in 1999 at around US$550 & US$700. The cheaper one had slight yellowing. The other one had the Macross logo on the wing.
I have both these guys in the box. My Jetfire box is a little rough, with the tech specs cut out, but the figure is perfect and it's the early macross one which is cool. And my megatron is really nice and totally unused, with all the papers and stickers untouched and great box. I bought them each around 10 years ago and paid like $350 for each of them. They've sure gone up a lot in value since then! But I love them too much to sell.
I was pretty surprised at how loose most of the sales and collections in your videos were, it seems that’s just par for the course for 30-50 year old toys. Gradable things must be a rare treasure!
Okay, for those late to the show - as a retailer - to make money - you but for 50-60% on the retail value. That's just how the game is played. Whoever is selling doesn't have to sell - but they also get their money right away, instead of waiting for months and months on Ebay.
I think it depends on the buyer. Some love the extra info to know exactly what it's worth (not exactly but closer than a non graded figure) I personally like to know it's authentic. That's my only concern.
I fail to understand the secrecy of grading. The companies who do this fail to release their rubric to justify the grade. Their "experts" are often waay off.
Every Saturday am at work . When i get this notification and i wait like 10 hours to go home and watch in peace and quiet . Prefect end to any sort of day lol
I just love this channel! Having my own minor pricing dillema, I have a loose 1992 recalled GI Joe Roadblock with working launcher that's just missing it's knife, great condition, has its file card. I'm going to sell it on ebay to fund my daughter's future toy collection, but never sold on ebay and no idea what a fair and reasonable price would be. Not sure if this is the kind of question to ask on this channel, I'll delete if not cool, but if any knowledgeable Joe collector can share their thoughts I'd be much obliged.
Awesome video and graded is hard because it makes you feel like you shouldn't open it and as a collector i want to play with all my stuff not just display it in a box you guys rock!!!
That Jetfire was a steal because the grading dropped the value. Ungraded, a high-end vintage TF collector would probably drop $1500-$1750 for it just because it's sealed with the hope of getting a high grade. The Megatron is super unique and right on the money though. Great video - as a Transformers collector myself, I was doing the math in my head to determine whether or not this was a good deal and I think you got an amazing deal. May not sell it till Retro at the end of the year, but it's going to be eye-candy in the shop if you put it up.
Not a fan of grading, could go into detail but hey this is the collecting world. You collect what makes YOU happy, value is whatever someone else is willing to pay, $1000 may be too much to one or too cheap for a graded Jetfire. Of course value means something when your business revolves around market value and not "My feeling is it's worth $X".
@toyfederation Intense video for a Sat morning! 😂 The Sears shipper for the Megatron brought back amazing memories! Are these going up for sale and do you happen to ship?
It’s an acrylic case right? Why don’t the grades face out? I keep seeing y’all struggle to read them and to remember them. 😂 Thanks for another sweet video.
My friend bought a Jetfire for $500, not graded and he looks super clean and the box is also super clean. No stickers added or anything. I was shocked he was only $500. If graded, which I know nothing about, I'd say he's at least an 8 or higher purely based on how my eyes see it.
I have the G1 Megatron CIB boughtin 2000, though box condition not as good as the one in this video. Also had the reissue versions (normal coloured & Black editions) released in 2001.
Is grading worth it?
I have bought graded for a premium. I think it adds something but certainly not the escalation of prices I’ve paid. Holy shit, am I the problem? 😮
I like it for preservation personally
On key pieces yes.

I think most fair people do offer 50% but I don't think you low-ball your customers and thought you might initially go with 2500 and go as high as 2750 because you added value with the shipper. $3000 right out of the gate and firm, yup, I definitely think that's a great offer.
the Megatron with box is probably 2500-3500 depending on when you sell it..Jetfire in that grade probably 1200.
I'm not a big fan of things being sealed and graded myself. Especially toys that are supposed to be played with. And it adds more difficulty in pricing, as shown here.
But, it is interesting to watch, nonetheless. SEARS won't be around much longer, so that Megatron might go up in value.
What is a 'Sears'? Sounds vaguely familiar....
Great video. Even though the editing gets kinda sketchy. Too much hovering over spectacle happening on the floor 😂❤
I just love seeing Thundercats on the tele in the background lol I’m rewatching the box set at the moment
I remember getting both of those new in 6th grade.
Love you guys and all your content. Thank you!
I wanted one of those Megatron figures as a kid so badly, I still kinda do
Cant wait , to get my soundwave back graded..ill sho u guys it, whn it arrives!! This was a good educational...episode!!
Every time that shop bell rings, a toy gets its wings 😅
Toy Federation day is my favourite day of the week 🎉
I was pretty surprised at how loose most of the sales and collections in your videos were, it seems that’s just par for the course for 30-50 year old toys. Gradable things must be a rare treasure!
YOU GUY'S JUST KEEP OUT DOING YOURSELF!!!! THANK YOU 4 ALL YALL DO!!! PLEASE KEEP THE SHOW'S COMING!!! THANK ALL OF YOU SOOOOÒ MUCH!!!!!❤😂🫶🙏👍😆
Saturday!!!!
The highest grade that I've seen is a AFA 9.75 on a star wars action figure. Super rare to find a grade that high
Okay, for those late to the show - as a retailer - to make money - you but for 50-60% on the retail value. That's just how the game is played. Whoever is selling doesn't have to sell - but they also get their money right away, instead of waiting for months and months on Ebay.
Even on a cruise ship, somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico, I still need my TF fix!
Can you get things graded again ?
@@therealnickynurotic8930 Yes, but it would be sunk cost. One would be investing another ~$250 for another opinion.
Every Saturday am at work . When i get this notification and i wait like 10 hours to go home and watch in peace and quiet . Prefect end to any sort of day lol
All qualified means on G1 is that the box has been unsealed but the contents were never removed. It’s not a defect like hat guy said.
Great content as always guys love the channel hope the subscribers keep going up
I must say that Megatron is 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you! 🙏🏻
I've seen that Megs mailer box MISB . Dude paid 5k last year.
I literally have three transformers in their boxes. Megatron, Jetfire, and Sound wave.
I only collect loose but Megatron and Jetfire are the 2 transformers at the top of my want list.
in The 80's i was just happy to get the toy, video game, comic...never believed you need to grade you're stuff.. 😂😅
Just a rebranded varitech fighter. Was still my favorite one.
i love my saturday morning cartoons!!! great content
nerds are thee best! I savor watching you guys dork out on these toys
Hi, do you have any midnight patrol (Hanna barbers) figures in stock?
@toyfederation Intense video for a Sat morning! 😂 The Sears shipper for the Megatron brought back amazing memories! Are these going up for sale and do you happen to ship?
In comics green is qualified with cgc. Blue or yellow is what you want
LoL😂 "an expert grader" How do we become an expertise grader! Who do we beat at each level to get to that level!
Love the channel guys
Thanks!
I have the G1 Megatron CIB boughtin 2000, though box condition not as good as the one in this video. Also had the reissue versions (normal coloured & Black editions) released in 2001.
They should get a slide-out counter top
That Jetfire was my favorite!
That jet fire was my first transformer!
WoWzers! Thanks for another great vid!
Have you even watched yet!??
Haha yes, amazing score, good ol sears , reminds me when I was a child
Grading newer sports cards add value to them immensity for the seller usually. But the cost of doing it done better be worth it.
