Quarry Camping & Campfire Crafting - New Jimny Setup, I Ditched the Roof Tent

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 4 พ.ค. 2024
- I'm camping at an old quarry near Hexham in the North East of England. I rarely get the time to go camping with work commitments so booking the best possible campsite is more important than ever.
Harlow Hill, wildwithconsent.com/site/harl... is nestled in a natural pine woodland in an ancient sandstone quarry, the site is sheltered and secluded.
Up top are gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside. Inside the quarry you'll find a large fire ring (and 2 old wooden chairs, nice touch!) and you're surrounded by trees and the outcrops of the quarry.
It's a very peaceful campsite with many Hares scurrying around and the odd pheasant flapping about.
I hit lucky on the weather, it wasn't too windy and warm during the day, only getting a bit chilly towards midnight, when the mist started to roll in.
While my mini adventures are only for 1 night I could happily spend a few days chilling out here and there's plenty of walks too if you don't want to stay at camp for the duration.
Hope you're all fit and well and enjoy the video, thanks for watching and maybe I'll see you next time!
DIY ROOF TENT UPDATE
----------------------------------------
I've removed it and won't be putting it back on the vehicle. Bottom line it was not good enough. While the project was a surprising success in many ways it was also pointless being attached to something that did not tick the boxes of my high standards. It was fractionally too small and had too much condensation build up. It was also getting some water ingress over time that was causing the tent material to become prone to mould.
I'll chalk that project up to a massive learning experience :)
I may invest in a roof tent in the future, maybe the iKamper Mini or the Alu-cab LT50 or perhaps something else that is yet to be released that will be compatible with the limitations of a Jimny.
CHANNEL UPDATE
-------------------------------
My plan to make regular videos did not come to fruition. Real work must come before hobbies and side projects so I'm sticking with my original plan and the reason for starting the channel in the first place. Which was to make videos to be able to look back on when I'm old.
For now that seems like the only way to be able to enjoying having a TH-cam channel. Once you start treating it like a business the fun vanishes. You can't make content you want to make or how you want to make it and will end up following trends and appealing to algorithms.
You may notice I'm getting back to how I made my videos originally. A lot slower paced and less editing. In this day and age of low attention spans they are likely to be a less popular and that's fine with me.

Lovely spot, stayed there a few times
Agree mate!
No special tool for cooking flatbread on the open 🔥 ……😂 seriously I love the organisation and quality of your gear. 👌👏👍
I forgot the fire anchor and other kit to cook. Makeshift spike did the job :)
Thanks man took a while to get things organised and I’m not finished with them just then 😅
@@GeordieJimny can’t wait 🤟
Did you ever make a video of your DIY roof top tent?
- It looks spectacular!
If you did make a video about it, please share a link and opinion about it.
Hi I didn’t make a video unfortunately. The project was very long and full of problems. In the end I’ve removed the tent as it was not good enough. Looked good but had too many problems with it 😊
beautiful spot !
Was a stunner :)
Missed this videos ! got back the old rims for the Jimny ?
glad to see new content :)
Hi, yeah do like those dean wheels :) cheers for tuning in 😜
1. I think you should do one trip to Sweden where you can camp for free wherever you want (almost).
2. Go camping in beautiful Norway more than once!
Would be nice!

Beautiful location, I'd have hard time returning to "civilization".

Hello from UK 😊
Hello Geordie Jimny, quick question: What size Molle Pouch are you sung on your tailgate storage panel?
Hi they’re 6”x10” www.military1st.co.uk/180014-019-first-tactical-tactix-6x10-utility-pouch-black.html 👍
Mate great video Just wondering if you've ever thought about using COACH bolts instead of tent pegs ? You just need to get a cheap cordless impact drill and Bobs your uncle much quicker and stronger than tent pegs Also if you get on line and check out OZTENT swag with stretcher Cheers
Hi mate, wow that’s a good idea! I’ll have go of that 🤩👍 thanks
Just to let u know Kwik fit will do it £130 all in part and repair
👍👌
🍻😊
Добрый день вопрос .Если лопнула кружка "Кукса" что делать?
I would carve a new one :)

😊
coffee + beer, wake up, fall asleep, wake up, fall asleep. Could just not have either, they cancel each other out
3 beers across a full afternoon and evening doesn’t make me sleepy 😉
Where is that spot? Public or private?
Hi it’s private booking, link in description 👍
Quite sloppy in your coffee dosing. No scale? 😂
I pretend I know how to make a good coffee but really I should just grab one from Nero 😜
Hey ! What is the book ? :p
Hey Josh, it's called Breath, The new science of a lost art.
£45 per night is pretty steep tbh
I don’t mind paying for exclusive access and no hassle and noise of others. Few rounds of drinks these days :)
@@GeordieJimnythat’s true, still a damn sight cheaper than a Travelodge, it’s just a shame that £45-75 listings per night seem to be the norm for basic access, as it soon adds up, especially with the fuels costs at the moment.
Дуже сподобалось !!!
Дякую!
This lad has just looked online for 'expensive stuff to take camping to make peope think you know what your doing ' then bought it all
It’s not all expensive, I made some of it. You’re not wrong though.
I don’t take the bait when people unnecessarily belittle in comments. Instead, I’ll take ‘this lad’ as a compliment at 49.
Thanks for watching Rosco

Yes of course.... But in this episode (vlog) you are not single... another body making video 😢
No, there is not. The camera is on a tripod. In no universe could the money made from these videos justify having a camera man, it barely covers the cost of the craft beers.
imho you bring too many tools with you. This ain’t bushcraft or camping, this seems luxury adventure. You don’t get in touch with nature… too many stuff
Luxury adventure is a good description.
You’re right it’s not bushcraft and to be fair I didn’t say it was.
It’s an overnight escape. Some time away from work to just relax and make something.
For bushcraft I’d recommend Bertram Craft & Wilderness. It’s a superb channel 👍
and WHY all you youtube bushcrafter do ALL THE SAME THING with coffe? 🤣🤣🤣 WHY ALL OF YOU use the coffee seed mixer? 🤣🤣🤌
Fresh coffee. I’m not a bushcrafter mate 😊👍
