You have to mill magnesium powder and kno3 for atleast 24 hours, no need of sulfur, the result will be super powerful flash powder that has a good pop to it.
Many methods of making flash powder are there. Slow or fast depends on the purpose of use... For simple firecrackers slow flash is desirable to avoid accident

That's exactly what I started off with, kno3 and magnesium. It works very well. 1:1 ratio and I add 10% sulphur on top of that. So if you're making a gram you'll come out with 1.10 grams.

Sorry but I am using this composition and got very good results in salute with loud explosion. Ya it's little bit some slow but It would work as I want.
It would burn much faster if you dry out than ball mill the KNO3 and sulfer both to extremely fine powder. Adding a little magnesium or titanium powder gives it extra spiciness too.
Definitely, you have to use KNO3 that’s very finely powdered. And in order to really do that properly you have to dry it completely first. KNO3 readily absorbs moisture from the air. It must be dried prior to use. In addition to that, it doesn’t make a good flash powder with aluminum. Only magnesium can be used with KNO3. For aluminum you have to use a chlorate or preferably perchlorate. And remember all ingredients must be very finely powdered. Flash powder should not burn slowly like that. POOF! Very fast with a THUD. Not a slow burn. That was awful.

Brother, There is a vast difference between the chemical composition of Black powder and Flash powder. Charcoal is used as the fuel in black powder while aluminium powder is used as the fuel in flash powder.
