So many years looking for this gameplay... It was on the arcade gallery close to home, and they always brought their games in japanese... Thank you, you've healed me of one of my frustrations of my days of yonder.
The main character kind of looks like Goku from Dragon Ball, but without the spikey hair. And the mini-bosses are no doubt homages to real live celebrities. Including Bruce Lee and Andre the Giant. And I sense a lot of vibes from Fist of the North Star. Particularly with the main bosses. And the final boss bears a resemblance to Raoh. All in all, a pretty interesting game. Though I didn't know about it until recent.

Both're a to Kurikinton, a dish of mashed sweet potatoes garnished with candied chestnuts, often eaten during New Year's festivities for the association with wealth and good fortune. (I'm not entirely sure what the connection is supposed to mean, per se, but I suspect there's some sort of pun here i'm missing)
No cheats used, remember that Japan still has a lot of arcades, and games like this still populate them. Easy to practice and get good at an arcade when your money is on the line, try to finish the game as cheaply as you can. Take that knowledge to playing it in emulation, using strategies you use on those arcade machines, still achieve success.

Same for me... I think I was 10 or 11 and I just remembered some final boss that was so close to the the foe from Fist of the North Star
