    I really appreciate the effort you go to to make all of your videos stand-alone guides without assuming any prior knowledge or referring viewers elsewhere. Much appreciated as a beginner!

    Hi. My kit, which I've made in a demijohn, is still fermenting, bubbling away, after 11 days. It's been sitting in my dining room which is around 20-21 degrees, obviously a bit lower at night. As I say, it's still bubbling so I'm not worried that it's got stuck. I assume I need to wait until it stops bubbling to de-gas it rather than de-gas it now and let it continue afterwards?

      +Paul Vernon Sometimes it needs longer than what the instructions say. Your hydrometer is your key. Test the wine to see if it is at a stage where you can move onto the next step.

    rather than syphon 6 times to degas can you use a degassing whip?

    Great instructional video, topped off somehow with a somewhat underwhelmed tasting at the end! 'It's OK'. Hahahaha. Classic. I'm going to get one anyway and see how 'OK' it tastes!

    Clear precise instructions, thanks so much.
    I will get to it straight away. Thanks to both of you for taking the time.

    I'm surprised that you don't use an airlock during fermentation ...... is that why your bucket overflowed?

    • @Brewbitz
      @Brewbitz  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. An airlock isnt necessary during the first part of the fermentation - check out our video - th-cam.com/video/8mJIaKC-7OA/w-d-xo.html
      It overflowed, as it was a vigorous fermentation.
      Red wines are normally more prone to frothing, so is beer.

    I kept mine in the airing cupboard for 3 weeks! Instead of 6 days!! Will it be OK ? I've just done most of the rest of the steps and leaving it a hour, Smells nice though.

    Thanks for the video, its very well put together and informative, i have 2 questions. Is there any reason why the starting gravity was not captured? And after you use sediment trap to start de gassing process, is it not easier to tip from one bucket to the next 5 times to complete?

    Just to clarify, you guys do not ship to then united states? Tried to select a destination on your website, and it was only for mainland UK

    • @Brewbitz
      @Brewbitz  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry footballman - we can only ship to the UK. The weight of homebrew kits means they would cost a fortune to ship to the US. However, Canada make a huge amount of these types of kits, so you may want to look a little closer to home.

    I've tried the Merlot 6 bottle kit, and nothing is happening after 48hrs. no bubbles or froth, could my bucket be too big? only have a 25L one it's huge!

    • @Brewbitz
      @Brewbitz  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, you'll need to test your wine with your hydrometer and trial jar to see if anything is happening. I have done a WineBuddy before and nothing appears to be happening but it is working. Check with your hydrometer, that is the key.

    • @Glassbackbarakkus

      thanks for the reply, I'll give it the 6 days and test. the kit was a gift so just giving it a go, it's the 12lbs of blackberries in my freezer and your other video that got me interested in brewing!

    Please help! 😩 I've just made my own pinot grigio and I'm actually on day 7. And I'm having trouble understanding the hydrometer. My wine is reading 1 wee line above the 99 mark. I don't know if that's good or not. Am I looking for the wine level to be closer to the 1000 mark or up the way to the 98 mark? Any help would be appreciated thank you 😊

    • @Brewbitz
      @Brewbitz  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. The hydrometer measures the amount of sugar in the liquid. As the yeast it the sugar, the density of the liquid lowers. So the hydrometer sinks.
      Put the hydrometer in water (at 20°c) and read the hydrometer and youll see it is 1.000.
      If you add sugar to the water, youll see the hydrometer rise. If you add enough sugar it will rise to the 1.100 mark.
      Remember the reading you got when it was water? Thats the point with no sugar. Thats the point where you want the hydrometer to be at the end of fermentation. It might sink a bit lower. So below 1.000. Eg 0.998.
      Thats perfect for wine.
      Hope that helps.

      @@Brewbitz thank you for responding I really appreciate it. So I kind of decided that it was good to go at 990 I'm dyslexic so this math really doesn't help 🙈 but I'm praying it will be okay. I suppose if I have a lower alcohol content than that's okay too, because 30 bottles during quarantine is probably not so good for me anyways hahahaha 😜. Thanks!

    Hi there can i Iet this kit age/store in a demijohn? If so how how long could I store it like this before bottling

    • @Brewbitz
      @Brewbitz  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. This kit isnt really designed for ageing. I would bottle as soon as it's ready, then put the bottles somewhere cool and dark. It does get better with a little age, but from experience 1-2 months has the same result as 6months with this kit.

    Hi. I have ordered a wine buddy kit, i see from clip that it has no kind of air lock. Do you think it would help if I bought one and fitted it to the lid? Many thanks. Paul

      paul dunn hi. Not really. Not in the first stages. Just follow the video and it will turn out great! Happy brewing.

      Hi. Take a look at our video on the subject of airlocks and if one is needed. In truth, during the first 5 days an airlock is not required as long as the fermenter is covered to prevent things falling in it.
      Take a look - th-cam.com/video/8mJIaKC-7OA/w-d-xo.html

    If I use the white buckets is it ok to use one of the warming pads to maintain the temp my house is quite cool ?

    • @stephenshort8113
      @stephenshort8113 29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, no problem ..... make sure the wine doesn't get to warm ie, over 30c which can cause problems

    • @Brewbitz
      @Brewbitz  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      A lot of yeast are ok up to 25°C. Over that and they go dormant and not much higher kills them off.

    Hi. How are you ment to get the wine to stay at 20 degrees?

    • @Brewbitz
      @Brewbitz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. You find somewhere in your house that is a constant 20°C. Usually somewhere like the bottom of an airing cupboard. If you can't, then find somewhere cooler and use a brewing belt or a heater pad to keep it at the correct temperature.
