I Tested All the Cars in ACC as a Beginner

- I'm on a journey. To explore the best of Asseto Corsa Competizione. And as a complete beginner, I thought it would be beneficial to test all the cars in ACC and work out what's the best for me. And its safe to say, I had some interesting results.
So in this video, I want to layout how I tested al the cars so you can try it yourself. And give my opinions on all the cars I tested.
If you want to see my ranked best cars watch it here... • Best Car for a Beginne...
And if you want to see my ranked worse cars, then watch here... • Cars to Avoid as a Beg...
Thanks heaps for watching, and let me know below what you think of my testing. And for more beginner perspective on ACC then hit the subscribe button!
If you are taking the time to watch this video, then please read this comments section below! There have already been some incredible people sharing their 1000s of hours worth of ACC knowledge, and it all helps fill in the gaps of this video. You will find them so very helpful and I appreciate all these comments so much!
If you are about to drop a new comment down below, then please can I ask that no links are included. It is just the safest way to ensure there is no illegal distribution of intellectual property, accidental or otherwise.
Also I need to make one official adjustment to this video. When doing testing it is best to use Practice Mode, but with tyre consumption and fuel consumption turned off. And NOT Hotlap mode. This was correctly pointed out by a viewer, and I was unaware at the time that this was possible. This setting can be changed in the 'Realism' tab of the single player menu.
I honestly think the best way to start off in ACC is to try and drive a car that is not neccesarily the fastest or the easiest to drive, but a car that teaches you things. Some cars really help you learn certain things.
For example, the aston martin is excellent for learning to trail brake, because you need to rotate it with the brake in order to get rid of the understeeer.
The audi, while it might feel bad to drive somtimes, it is that way because it has some quirks. U need to run it at full wing on every track to make it competitive, and the best thing that it teaches you, is to exit a corner as straight as possible, because if not, it will have the tendency to snap more often.
The mclaren is really an easy car to drive, but it can teach you how to be aggressive on throttle, and rotate the car with the throttle.
The ferrari while easy to be "mediocre" but relatively fast in, it punishes the driver for any sort of sliding.
The mercedes is similar to the ferrari in that way, but is way harder to extract the maximum pace out of.
The porsche if set up correctly will teach you how to deal with corner entry oversteer, which can be very useful.
But overall, I think a massive headstart for this game is to learn the setup "tricks", and I'll leave this here, it is pretty useful info, but just basic stuff.
Tire pressure: aim for 27 psi when hot
Camber: full neg camber
Toe front: good starting point is half negative toe, but some cars (bmw, mustang, nissan) basically require you to max out the negtoe on the front which is -0.2 I think.
Toe rear: start with neutral, go with positive for more stability, and go for more negtoe if u want more rotation
Caster : max always
Brake bias: use as little as possible, on some cars even minimum value works really well even if it sounds stupid to have 48.5% brake bias on something front engined. If you spin under braking
just dial it a little more to the front gradually until you no longer spin.
Traction control: most of the time use the lowest possible, but in some cars, especially the ferrari 296 and the for mustang, I would suggest 5 as a minimum value.
ABS: 2-3 works really well in most situations
Engine map: should be covered in the link. Except for the lambo evo2, maps 1-5 same power, different throttle curves and engine brake. 1 is the most aggressive throttle, with the least amount of engine brake, while 5 is the least aggressive throttle with the most amount of engine braking.
www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/ecu-maps-implementation.54472/
TLDR use map 1 for most cars, map 8 for porsche, map 3 for lambo evo2
As for suspension setup, the "META" is a soft car. Many times you will see pro drivers using the softest suspension settings possible, mostly tweaking the car through the bumpstop range and anti roll bar.
Preload: use as little as possible
Dampers: they are quite tricky to set up, but an insanely fast and easy damper setup is to just use (0 0 max max) on front and rear.
Aero: most of the tracks max wing for all cars. And make sure to use some rear ride height when using high wing.
Cars that need max wing or close to max wing even on fast tracks like monza : audi, mercedes.
And a TLDR of what setup changes to do the car: soft front=oversteer soft rear=understeer stiff front=understeer stiff rear=oversteer. High bumpstop range front=oversteer High bumpstop range rear=understeer
I know this is a wall of text but I hope it helps anyone who stumbles across this video.
***neg=negative or -
This is stunning advice here. I cant believe how generous the Sim racing community is being with sharing its knowledge. This is very helpful for me, so I know others will get value out of this as well! Thank you so much!
This should be pinned!
Agree @@gul1ver166
you're awesome. I was gonna jump back into ACC after a long break this is gold to me.
@@BradleySettersMotorsport Let me try to expand on the brilliant comment above...
1. The perfect temps for tyres are around 26.5psi, 27 is the maximum acceptable as "good temps", anything above 27 is too much and anything beneath 26 is too little... also you want to be closer to 27 on fast tracks like Monza and Spa while on Imola with a ton of turns 26.3 to 26.5 is better cause you have more grip.
2. The "0 0 max max" damper setup works amazing on SOME CARS... I use it on the Ferrari and it's literally broken how fast and stable it is but when I tried it on the Porsche it was absolutely horrendous and made the car absolutely sluggish and I was much faster with the setup I had from Frid0lf (best setup TH-camr that has good setups for all cars, the man is a blessing)
Finally in my humble opinion there are 4 cars that are the perfect choices for a beginner but from 4 different approaches:
1. The Ferrari is the perfect car for a beginner because no other car is above average in every track and will be at least decently competitive everywhere while also being stupidly easy to drive due to Ferrari's very long gear ratio which means less acceleration our of the corner which in turn means near zero twitchiness and you can go full throttle very early with it and will teach you to keep your average speed as high as possible because as I said, Ferrari's acceleration is pathetic (have fun on race starts being passed over by every McLaren and especially by the Porsche like you're driving a toy car). Also as the guy above said, use TC 5 at the minimum otherwise it's undriveable...
2. The Aston Martin is the perfect car for a beginner in the sense that it's a very safe car that will never give you attitude and as soon as you learn to properly trail brake you will be competitive without ever feeling you're fighting the car... the Aston is a smooth ride to the finish even if not the fastest one.
3. The BMW M4 is the perfect car for someone that wants a car that will benefit from super aggressive driving... you throw this thing into the corners like there's no tomorrow, you go over curbs aggressively, it's acceleration is one of the best, it's very stable on the corners and overall it's a car that YOU have to extract the time out of... the car itself will feel stupid slow at first before you understand it... I had this issue with the BMW where I felt it's impossible for me to extract time out of it until I learned to be very aggressive with it and now it's my go-to car for Silverstone where I've even won a couple of races in the LFM with it.
4. The Porsche... aaaaah, the Porsche 992 GT3 is the car for those that want to really LEARN how to be better drivers... it's oversteery in corner entry, it's twitchy on the exit when you push the throttle too early, it benefits massively from a more aggressive preload (while most cars are good with the minimum) which makes it even more aggressive on you and above all else, if you tense up and try to fight it it will spin you into oblivion... The Porsche teaches you to be smooth and it will teach you that smooth buttery turning motion where you get yourself into the corner smoothly, you push aggressively mid corner to get more rotation and then ease yourself out while you push down the throttle and enjoy the absolutely insane acceleration of this monster and the eargasm that is it's engine... on most tracks my personal records are with the Porsche but driving one insane lap is one thing, driving consistently on that pace is another... when you master the Porsche people will HATE YOUR GUTS... you can pass them so easily on corner exit if you don't slide cause your acceleration literally shits on theirs (say hello to the Ferrari cause you'll be passing them in no time with their godawful acceleration)... but until you master it you will miss opportunities to pass and you will lose your spot countless times by sliding on the exit of the corner... finally watching Tortellini on TH-cam for tips on the Porsche is a given... the dude is literally the wise sage hailed by all Porsche lovers as the one true source of holy wisdom about this car!!!
My personal suggestion would be to drive the car you think is the most fun... screw your times... winning is one thing, winning while driving your favorite car is another... and I find the second one way more enjoyable... I wouldn't change that sweet monster engine of the Porsche in my ears for anything...
This is underrated content. I was like how many subs this guy got? Couldn't believe he had less than 100 amazing production quality.
Cheers mate! A lot of work went into this, so I really appreciate the kind words.
Yeah i subbed to him. He makes exellent video's like the big youtubers. Great job

@@sven_helder Thank you so much!
@@fqeagles21 Appreciate the support !!
Honda main here. If you want to try playing around with setups, try stiffening the front roll bars and softening the rears. Honda is nice on entry and oversteery on exit, if you can get the back of the car to sag on corner exits it can become a much more stable and predictable car; not to mention rather quick too.
Also another tip if you want to pursue the Honda that I see many people make a mistake with, turn the ECU map to mode 4, the game starts you off at 1 which is actually third quickest throttle map for some odd reason. 4 is more aggressive and less linear, but combine it with a softer suspension you won't have the oversteer that many people who are unfamiliar with the car experience.
Good video!
Good input here! Ill have to try that at some point, because I did struggle with the Honda a lot. Also that's for the clarification on the ECU map. I knew that the Porsche was map 8 as its fastest. But even the docs I found that gave me that info, didn't mention the Honda being different ! Thanks for the comment.
Hi mate, I’m relatively new to acc, I find the Honda is the best suited for my driving style out of them all. Do you have a good baseline setup you use for all tracks? I find the setup quite daunting. Cheers 👍
I have over 1000 hours in ACC, I started and learned with the lambo evo 1. The thing sucked, but it taught me really well how to manage understeer (because that car is disastrously understeery). Don't go for a car that's super easy, go for one that makes you a better driver.
5 subs, 12 views? That's criminal. Really well put together video and cleanly edited. You got a sub, look forward to seeing you progress. Hopefully see some LFM stuff from you, so many people just default go iRacing, which IMO isn't worth the financial commitment so I lose interest in TH-camrs that go that route.
Keep it up mate!
I had a struggle session with myself earlier about buying into iRacing or just sticking with ACC. What kills it for me is the subscription cost + cars and tracks. Way too much $ at the moment to sink into something that I may not even enjoy. AC/ACC it is!
Thank you so much! Very early days for this channel, so hopeful I can grow and help more people. I will be all ACC and LFM here for a good while. iRacing is silly expensive when you have games like ACC and AC evo coming as well. So doubt if you will ever see iRacing here to be honest.
@@BradleySettersMotorsport Good man, cause iRacing is a scam... there is no video game that can justify asking for THAT MUCH MONEY... I don't care how good they say it is, the people that run it are the greediest people I've ever seen in gaming... it's nuts how many people have given thousands of dollars for cars and tracks...
Great video mate, I’ve just come back to ACC after a year and a bit out with WRC & LMU. I love how individual the cars all are and how they cater for a bunch of different styles. Personally I’ve found the most pace and comfort with the Honda but I think my time in rally sims has set me up to naturally deal with its nervousness
Thank you! Must feel like quite the change going from WRC to ACC! and I can see how it would get you comfortable with a nervous car. I want to get into LMU at some point as well. The WEC is such a good championship now, and I was hooked after seeing it trackside at Spa this year. But ill get my head around ACC first I think haha!
Nah, I'm a better rally driver than track race driver (I don't do time trials but my times are within the first 50-100 worldwide in most stages when I push hard) and I can't drive the Honda for shit... I can drive the Porsche which is nervous too but the Honda feels like hell on wheels for me, it's just horrible...
Somehow, the algorithm is picking you. Good luck with the channel. I'm a beginner, and I love the porsche even though I know the M4 is probably the better choice.
Thank you so much! The Porsche can be a decision of the heart, but sim racing has to be fun first and foremost. So perfect decision!
If you drive the Porsche you're a man of great culture my friend, so keep on going, nothing wrong with that...
Also, the Porsche might be very hard to drive well but it more than makes up for it with how good it is on overtaking other cars... it's acceleration is stupidly strong and those poor sluggish Ferrari are shedding tears of pain every time you exit a corner right behind them... hahahaha
Excellent video. I’m almost 400 hours into the game and you’re pretty spot on about all the cars characteristics. 👍
Thank you so much! I was thinking after 500 hours I would need to redo a video like this because all the thoughts would be different. So glad to know its close to the mark!
Really thought out and good input bro, thanks for the vid!
Thank you so much!
Ty for video , from mother Russia.
Good job bro , and good luck .
I will recommend this video my friends.
Thank you! Glad you found it helpful!
Just wanted to say great video! I recently purchased ACC during a steam sale and am looking forward to getting my GT3 journey started. I am completely new to sim racing, so this whole journey is going to be a challenge. I am naturally drawn to the Mustang, so I intend to drive that first and see how it feels, but will try to keep an open mind and try a few different cars and see which one I naturally gel with.
Thank you, and welcome! Sim racing is challenging but so rewarding once you start getting it right. The Ford is a fun car, so I hope you do naturally gel with it!
I started with the Aston martin about 4 months ago. I found it to be super safe. I since switched to the Lamborghini and found my lap times have improved by about 2-3 seconds. I think part of it is comfortability with the way the cars "feel" when driving. Although every "What car to pick first" video has great information, I believe every new person to ACC needs to do what you did here and test all the cars for themself.
Wow that's a huge improvement! Well done! Yes I found doing my own test was really eye opening, and I would encourage everyone to do a version of it themselves.
Very well explained. I have 2800 hrs on ACC and I did the same car tests years ago and still keep doing it everytime there is an update.
Hey thank you! I think I will be doing this for sort test many times as I improve. I found it very insightful.
NEVER do testing in hotlap mode guys. just turn off fuel and tire consumption. hotlap mode resets your tyres completely everytime you cross the finishline, so you will have massive jumps in pressure and temeperature from last corner to first corner and it wont translate into any real scenario.
Second this!
Thank you for this comment! I'm going to put hand up and say I didn't know you could do this. But I agree this would be a more consistent way of testing cars. I will make sure I pin a comment explaining this, once I work out where you make that change in game. Again thank you so much for the call out!
important comment! thanks
@@BradleySettersMotorsport Do a Hotstint instead... a hotstint is 30 mins and you can also time your overall 30 min time with every car to find out which car would be the fastest for you in a sprint race or a whole stint before pitting which is very useful.
You might feel faster with the Porsche than with the Ferrari on individual laps but you'll be surprised that you might make a much better stint on the Ferrari based on how stupidly consistent it is for example...
I always practice in Hotstint and never in Hotlap
How does this work in hotstint?
Great video covering really useful and helpful advice. Choosing 1 car to learn in and master is such a missed opportunity to improve quickly by reducing variables.
Thank you! So many cool cars on ACC though right? Easy to want to drive them all. But using just one has certainly helped me get on top of new tracks and conditions faster.
Great video to be honest. I hope you can do GT2 and GT4 classes as well.
Thank you so much! Once I get a little more settled into ACC I will certainly be checking out the GT2 and GT4 cars in the same way. Less cars, so will be easier to do as well haha.
@@BradleySettersMotorsportlookin forward to it bro.
Ford Mustang is quickest and most forgiving for me. Took me from 1.47 on monza to nearly 1.45 in only a couple months
Wow, very fast to very very fast! The Mustang is a really cool car, and really popular at the moment.
45 in monza, wow I'm to sorry to doubt that haha, but that's a really fast lap time, just wow
I think consistency is way more important than pace as a beginner. I got my LFM licence on a McLaren and did first 4 races with it. I switched to BMW and had much more success from the get go. I still haven't improved my McLaren lap records, but I'm consistent, safer and way faster over the stint.
Great video. Keep this level of quality mate and hopefully you'll see the sub numbers rise!
Means a lot that you notice the quality. But really if these videos help just a few people then its worth it. Thanks so much!
Agree 100% about picking you car based on enjoyment. I'm often faster in cars I just don't want to drive anymore, so I just drive whatever is feeling fun at the moment. 🍻
Its always about the fun!
Very informative .. thank you
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!
Good info. Thx!!!
Glad you liked it!
Nice video, especially the conclusion where you state the importance of having fun and not just drive a certain car because it is fast. You need to feel something for the car too. BTW, after testing out the 296 last evening I can say that it allmost feels like cheating driving this car in some corners. Eau Rouge can however be a bit scary in this car. 😅
Yea its the main thing for sure. Sim racing is fun first, and we all have our favourites. I have found some weaknesses in the Ferrari, but its been pretty good at most tracks so far.
@@BradleySettersMotorsport Yeah, you certainly know how to handle the Ferrari!👍😃
I'm still a one tricky Ferrari pony though! We will have a reality check when I start to use other cars in the future.
I wanted to hurt my self, so I started my journey with the 992 😂. But what a car!
No pain, no gain! haha
Great content, thank you Bradley. You left me with no choice but to sub 👏
Hey thank you so much! I really appreciate it.
3000 hours of ACC & my opinion:
Lexus, Ferrari 296 & Aston are great beginner cars
3000 hours! Thank you so much for the input!
really doesnt feel like this is a video from a channel with only 20 subs good quality bro. also im gonna need to know what you changed on the porsche to make it drivable because i cant do it myself
Thanks mate! I appreciate the comment. Look for the Porsche its just luck that I got it to work. Lowest ride hight and full rear wing were the only real changes I made. But I am convinced that this would not work even at a different fuel load, let alone at other tracks. Its such a tricky car. Maybe test out some of the free TH-cam set ups some players give away, or commit to buying set ups just to take the guess work out of it. Mega cool car, but Ill wait a good while before I try working this one out haha.
@@knowitalljack2066 you can look up any car with any track on youtube and find a decent setup, for example:
"acc porsche nurburgring setup"
I have a setup from Fri3dolf on youtube, the car is good and fast. try it
If you wanna drive the Porsche go watch a tutorial by Tortellini, the dude has been driving ONLY the Porsche since the beginning of time and he's really informative... Nils also had a great video about the Porsche but he's a pro driver so his setups are stupidly oversteery and you need way too much skill to drive with them...
Personally I always go to Frid0lf for my free setups on TH-cam... he has very very good and stable setups for all cars and you only need to tweak them a little bit to make them more understeery or oversteery according to your liking...
As a general rule of thumb, try lowering the back of the Porsche until it feels that it's very good at taking corners but doesn't feel like you're losing the back constantly... and the Porsche needs very smooth steering inputs... if you try to throw it into the corners hard like a BMW it will declare it's disapproval of it and kill you...
interestng video. I have done 1800 hours on ps4 and 1200 hours on ps5 version. turns out there is always something new on ACC. my first was Lexus back in beginning on ps4 acc release
Wow I didn't even realise they did ACC on PS4. What car have you used the most over all that time?
I'm still on the ps4 doesn't get updates tho 😢
As a beginner you should start in a GT4. They are much more fun and more forgiving.
Yes I've spent a little bit of time with GT4 and they are fun! The one down side is if you want to do something like LFM, you need to need to complete your licence in a GT3 car. So depending how quick you want to get involved there it will require you to work out the faster cars sooner.
In my one-year journey with ACC, I started with Ferrari, which is fantastic. Along the way, I tried Porsche, but I didn’t feel as safe in it as I did with Ferrari during long races, and there was a higher risk of making mistakes. Anyway Porsche was very good for skills improvement trainings. After some time, I switched to BMW, which handles curbs much better than Ferrari, giving a significant advantage on many tracks and being more forgiving when it comes to curb-related errors-something Ferrari is very sensitive to. Basically i got faster in BMW by around second on many tracks. Recently, I’ve been playing around with Lamborghini, which is great in every aspect, but unfortunately, on some tracks, it’s more than a second slower in my hands than BMW.
I think those three cars are the ones I would like to get good in over the next 12 months. I'm starting off well in the Ferrari, but plenty have mentioned that it wont help my long term skill improvement.
@@BradleySettersMotorsport Participating in the Porsche Cup has been a huge help in improving my skills. The cars not only sound and feel incredible to drive, but the lack of traction control really pushes you to be precise and gentle with the pedals, as the car is unforgiving of mistakes. It’s by far my favorite in ACC. You can join these races through pitskill, although there’s currently a one-season break in the series. I highly recommend visiting their website, as the new season starts next week. Similar to LFM, Pitskill has its own platform, and what I love most is the chance to race on different tracks each week with the same group of drivers.
@@BradleySettersMotorsport The Ferrari gives you bad habits, that's all... the Ferrari is very stable and you get too throttle happy which when you drive other cars will not be forgiven by them... Lambo is very forgiving too and very planted but it's hard to drive it fast...
But don't listen to the doomers saying that the Ferrari is not a "long term car"... it's an exceptional car... sure it might win less in the top of the top of the top lobbies on LFM but until you get there there's A LOT of levels... if you even get there at all...
Really great video, definitely hope the channel gets bigger!
For me I like to drive cars that ask you to steer with the throttle out of a corner.
What did you change on the 911? Not asking for values, just the parameters you changed
Thank you so much! Look there is nothing special with the Porsche set up. Just lowest ride height and max wing. For this one track and fuel load situation it worked, but there is no way that would translate to speed on all tracks and all conditions. So it was nice to nail a couple of laps in the test, but I would buy set ups for this car to take the guess work out, if I wanted to use this car at the moment.
@BradleySettersMotorsport nice, thanks! I don't consider myself a biginner (but i will test some laps on imola to see the times 😉) but I do pass long periods of time without playing and then I don't remember what are the parts to focus on the setup part. And I was asking for the nordschleife special event
@@Dral.09 The Green Hell still scares me, so I wouldn't ask me for any advise on that for a very long time 🤣
The Lexus has a new car thats not in the game which is probably why the old Lexus isnt used in the BOP list!
The McLaren evo is a great car but you need soft rear suspension and a low rake! Its one of my favorite cars to use amd can easily get down into the 1:41's around Imola
I'd also like to mention you can run the McLaren Evo with a higher front ride height to compensate for it's poor curb handling... 52 53 seems to be the sweet spot when you're on a track with rough curbs..
Yea no one runs that new Lexus in the GT World Challenge, which is why its not in the game. Same as the newer Corvette GT3.
Nice set up tips for the McLaren as well! Thanks for the comments.
Thumbs up
Thank you!
The aston has turbo lag, I think you'll find that jives exactly with what you perceive about its performance (based on whether you got on the gas a little too early (run wide) or a little late (feels very safe)). Also worth mentioning that this lag is so bad that it exits a pit slower than any other car by about .3 of a second, which is obviously an eternity in a competitive race.
See that really clarifies why the Aston drives the way it does. Thank you so much for sharing that! Hopefully we do see the new Aston GT3 in the game soon as well.
Clean videos nice editing nice script heart in video and only 15 subs you should get more
Thank you so much. Lots of effort goes into these. I just hope its helpful for people.
I would try to use more than one track to test the car's. What i mean is certian cars are strong on certian tracks and slower on others.
No I agree one track only is a weak point of my test. I did personally test my top pick on a bunch of tracks to make sure I was getting the same % lap times. But when I do this video again at a more advanced level, I think I would commit even more time and use more circuits.
wow such a great production and great info! Thumb'd and Sub'd! I'm glad TH-cam recommended this video, well done!
Thank you legend! Cant wait to get some more videos out for you soon!
I love driving ACC but the game has maybe the worst options for car settings of all sim race games... Believe it or not, one of the best if not the best options for car settings has the Project Cars 2 , old game , but teaches you very good about car settings and about every settings
Yea I'm finding that car set up for Esports, vs how it would actually be set up in real life, are very different. Although its a simulator, it still needs to be treated like a game sometimes. Its why I'm just focused on one game for now.
Just wanted to say that the Lexus, if you setup to the lowest ride height and aggressive spoiler. is a killer machine if you have patience.
I expected the Lexus to be pretty low on my list for some reason, but it really held its own. I think low ride hight and max wing is how I had it set up.
I had a session with a beginner friend of mine. I told him to use the BMW. First he was like: „Why does it feel so slow?“ Three laps later he was like: „Why am I so fast?“ lol
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. I had the exact same feeling with the BMW.
It's nice that you tried them out, but as very advanced person in acc i'd say setups matter a lot. Setup in imola can get you so much time and confidence. Of course some cars to drive fast have to be on the very limit.
Also a quick tip. Almost never user 1st gear ir BMW and mclaren evo.
I agree. Some cars feel almost the same even when you change the setup, but some cars have a night and day difference depending on how you set them up. It also helps if you know which cars have an actually working TC (AFAIK pretty much only ones are Aston, 296 and Mustang, other cars benefit from having as low TC as you can handle)
Almost never, but quite frequently for a moment in the McLaren haha
@@damiendegrasse The only reason you might switch to first gear in mclaren is on very hard breaking, but you must be in 2nd gear on acceleration. It gives you more stability and it is tested that yes 1st gear is a bit faster on initial acceleration but when you switch to 2nd gear you lose that advantage and may lose to 0.1 or 0.2 depending on how long the straight is
Thanks so much for the input here. Setups in a pretty intimidating thing when your new, and I felt like it was best to keep it as simple as possible when only 40 hours into the game. However I completely agree that setups make all the difference. I'm trying some TH-cam setups now and while I don't fully understand what about the setup is making the difference, there is no doubt it helps me be quicker. Good chance I do a repeat test of some kind in the future, and see what sort of things change vs doing it all as a low skill newbie.
Good point on which car you enjoy. Which car did you enjoy and get the most out of personally?
To be honest all these cars were a joy to drive in different ways. The Ferrari, BMW, Porsche, Ford were probably the most fun. But mostly as they are cars that I really enjoyed watching in real life. The Ferrari looks amazing, I have brand history to BMW, the Porsche is always a fan favourite, and the Ford is so load it just makes you happy laugh to yourself. So in a round about way I think that real world experience, is actually a big factor to the enjoyment of these cars. You sort of feel like you are living it in the sim a bit more.
Well this is a good way to test the feeling of every car, but lap times will change completely from track to track.
For example the Bentley is one of the fastest cars in the game at the moment.
Yes getting a feeling for each car at the start was the complete intention of this test for me. The laps are just a reference, but in no way is that a ranking. Its worked for me that choosing the most natural feeling car from my driving has helped accelerate my progress. But the closer one gets to top times, the more they might need to look into what the trending fast cars in the game might be.
@ keep it up, love the videos! 👊🏼
Thank you!
Im fairly new to sim racing seen others online saying what u should drive etc. Yet for me surprisingly im faster and more consistent in what all these vids tell me i shouldn't be driving. But on acc even tho it feels slower while im driving but my lap times are best in the Bentley... go figure!
This is why I did my own test. The Bentley seems to work for you and if you like driving it, then why would you choose something else? I agree that the Bentley feels slow to drive and then you realise the lap times actually quick haha. Its an odd feeling.
great video
Thank you so much!
hi mate
great video. how did you get your pedal inputs on the replay video
thanks
Thank you! I capture all the game play with the OBS software. So on the replay you can have the HUD turned on and then capture the parts you want recording on OBS. Hope that answers the question. Its still all new to me, so there is potential a different and better way to do it.
But, if you win with an Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 2013, your name will be remembered for a thousand years!
I think you would have a national holiday named after you haha!
@@BradleySettersMotorsport 😅
Ferrari 488 Evo feels the best to drive in terms of a feeling of weight in the car etc.
I'm still convinced that the older cars are just too far off the pace if you want to get into competitive racing. I have seen only one rookie class race where someone used an older gen car. A real shame though, as those older cars are still great. The BMW M6 use to be my favourite GT3 car.
As someone who is a veteran of acc I'd try multiple tracks because some are just better than others on certain tracks
Hey thanks for the call out here. Yes I think the one track thing is the weak part of my test. I like the variety of Imola, but I know it doesn't cover everything.
@@BradleySettersMotorsport well, at least you did land on one of the best beginner cars anyway. My only complaint on the Ferrari is the sound of the engine, which won't help your lap times much. Lol One suggestion I would have is if you want to experience a championship, there are many private groups all over the world that run championships throughout the year. An example of this is here in north America we have simracing alliance as an example, which has 6 divisions based on abilities, and runs 8 race championship seasons throughout the year, 3 groups on Tuesday nights, 3 on Wednesday nights. The nice thing about these is running against the same people every week gives it the feeling of running in a real championship, and most have fairly strict driving standards and penalty systems that will filter out all the wreckless people. There are many such groups all over the world and it's really tons of fun. Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and give you a sub and follow your career and wish you the best of luck. Keep up the good content!
Oh and one other thing... judging from your accent, octane online racing has a Sydney server, so you can race with them and get a very reasonable ping. They have live stewarding and run very professional events. I've run in an endurance event or 2 hosted by them. Also, judging from your times and rig, while you're new to acc, you're not new to simracing 😊
@@rogerdiz3520 Thanks for the input mate! Im keen to look into all the different groups and championships around the world. Currently I am living in Belgium believe it or not, but ill be noting all the good groups down under as they get mentioned. Will be back in NZ eventually!
Thank for the compliment on the times! I was good on GT6 10 years ago, I am a nerdy motorsport fan, and its been months of research on sim racing before jumping in. It seems to have transitioned nicely into my first nearly 100 hours on ACC. Still lots of learn and share, so will keep pushing!!
I think you forgot the Jaguar..otherwise cool vid!
Thanks for commenting! The Jag I think sits with the older generation cars in ACC now, which is why didn't include it. A shame Jaguar didn't keep producing GT3 cars actually.
Nice vid, have a sub. I'll keep an eye on your channel.
Thank you so much. Lots more to come!
Great vid, im 300hours in to acc and still cant find the car that clicks. I seem to go through phases with cars, is this normal😂
Well I'm sure every car is teaching you some new skills. Its probably not a bad tactic! What cars have you been using most?
@@BradleySettersMotorsport really like the porsche but just cant get the consistency there. Iv found the most time and consistency with the 296 so sticking with that at the moment
@@lukepalmer257 Exactly the same for me! A lot of comments signalling the 296 is quite forgiving so helps raise that consistency.
@@BradleySettersMotorsport i find the porsche is great on some tracks, but on others like donnington, it handles like a bar of soap
I think the porsche is for far more experienced drivers… It does feel really fast and its easy to put up great times but its incredibly inconsistent.
In the league I race in theres only two porsches out of like 50 people. And one of the drivers consistently spins out… It looks like hes fighting the car the entire time.
What base you have?
Trakracer rig, and Simagic wheelbase etc. A few people have asked, so I will do a rig tour pretty soon.
I spent like 20+ hours learning how to tune just so I could drive the Porsche lol
That's time well spent!
Interesting info mate, but too much face time. You should revisit your format.
Just don’t use the 296 as a beginner. It will mask bad habits.
The 296 has been serving me very well in Rookie series. But I think from the advise in these comments, it will be best to use some other cars once I more of less drop the 'beginner' tag. Its been nice to be able to focus on learning circuits and learning how to race other cars, knowing the car underneath me is so forgiving. But its clear that I need to focus on some more driver skills once I get more comfortable with other parts of the game.
@@BradleySettersMotorsport I spent about four months using the 296 as a beginner and when I changed cars it was different enough that I was struggling. The TC on the 296 works very well even on 2. I needed to be way more precise with my throttle control in most of the other cars. Still having fun during the learning process so I’m not complaining. I’ve only been at this since January. Good luck.
@@dauntae24 That's a good experience to share, thank you. I think the transition would take sometime, but sounds like its a worthwhile process in the long run. What car did you change too?
I'd like to see you join us at Supercharged Motorsport leagues on SimGrid
I just had a quick look at SimGrid the other day for the first time. Ill be sure to check you guys out!
I respect the work you put in, but you can't make a fair comparison between the cars and especially their pace when you're 4 seconds off the fast guys. Spend some time watching fast guys that stream ACC, learn from their lines and driving style and learn from their setups. Little tip, ideal tyre pressures are 27, make sure they are at 27 after a lap or 2 when they're hot or within a few decimals.
Thanks heaps of the comment. I would say that no car comparison test could be considered fair. The super fast guys only know these cars with perfect set up, and that allows them to drive the lap times they can. A newbie is not going to have that level of knowledge of set up and that's why I have used only basic changes. If that makes my video less relevant to say Jardiers videos on car choice is up to the viewer.
@@BradleySettersMotorsport A good setup won't make you 4 seconds faster though. The point I was trying to make was that you're too far away from the limit of the car in terms of braking, corner speeds, ideal lines etc even with a default setup to have a good comparison in laptimes. Nonetheless still a good video for newbies for comparing the differences in handling between different cars.
@@donjoe2661 No its a fair point for sure. I think I personally found the process so helpful for me and I will consider doing it again in the future. But honestly, comments like yours and others here have done a great job at adding the missing pieces, and making this a better resource then I could ever make myself. I honestly really appreciate all the input.
MC laren is the best in late braking,, worst is the Audi gt2
Yes the GT2s are a different beast. Good fun though.
I love the porsche but i messed up starting with it in sim racing.
Now im abt 300hrs in with it and man its a toxic relationship
But its really fast😊
The head said no, but the heart said yes haha. Is it good now after 300 hours of game play? Or are there still some tough moments? Just trying to gauge how long the journey will be when I eventually try figure the Porsche out.
Doing this in hotlap mode makes no sense, that will be the base game BoP which is very different to what you'll have on any league races.
Yes BOP will change the possible lap time of the car, making some faster and some slower. But from a driving characteristic point of view it wont change the discussion points I feel, which was the point of this test for me. Also yes, the hotlap mode is not what I would use next time. Had a great comment about using practice mode with fuel and tyre wear turned off. So that's added in the pinned comment.
@@BradleySettersMotorsport Neither approach gives you a feel for the car in race trim. A better way is to use an LFM practice server, put 80 litres in, do some laps. Then RTG, go to the aero tab and change the temporary fuel load to 15 litres. Go out again on the used tyres. Then you'll have a good understanding of how the car feels at the beginning and end of a stint.
2:43 hotlap mode also puts you always on 10 liters of fuel and resets your tyres
Yes good point. Same fuel and same tyre condition every lap. Thought that with less variables its a more neutral test.
Beginner? With a Complete rig, gloves, shoes and what not?
I like nice things haha. A lot of research went into this and I am very committed to getting good at it. Already seeing the benefits of buying good gear from day zero, and saving the need to upgrade later. In saying that, there are pros on Logitech wheels. So it’s not a deal breaker for getting fast.
The answer is always the Bentley.
Case closed.
Jkjk 😅
On a serious note, how much of that lap time gain do you attribute to you getting better at the track itself? In a one hour practice run on a track I get up to 1 sec faster from my first good lap (3rd or 4th lap).
Yea this is a really good call out. I think the main thing I tried to do was complete multiple driving stints in each car. So if I learnt something about the track or a driving technique then I could try it on all the cars. However the reality was that I spent more time in the slower lot of cars at the end to make sure the results wasn't attributed to just bad driving for one stint. I think it would be interesting to run this again after say 500 hours of game play and see how much the results change. But for being a beginner I think I kept it pretty fair.
Where are you from?
From New Zealand, but currently living in Belgium.
296
for me with my non existant 90 hours in this game mclaren is easily the fastest i dont like to drive the car and would like to drive other cars but i cant beat myself in any other car no matter the track
Yea see this is a head vs heart thing right? I understand the want to be competitive, and its hard when it doesn't line up with fun side of sim racing at the same time. What car are you wanting to drive? Maybe someone in the comments can give you the tips to get you up to speed?
@@BradleySettersMotorsport porsche and merc really interests me but porsche is just unpredictable and merc feels like boat in corners it's hard to explain but it just doesnt want to rotate for me in mid corner
As a begginer? Lol to good as a begginer
The fact porsche is no3 tells us you srent a begginer. Most begginers cant be fast in that car let alone control it. Its the no1 car that jardier and other pros say begginers shouldnt drive for a reason lol
The lambo is the best bet for most and irs further down the list which kind of blows my mind.
Imo the mclaren is slso good but its not an active car meaning it likes coasting more then other cars and it doesnt good neeer drivers used to active inputs. Where you like trail brake right back into throttle. So hard to transition to other cars after begginers drive that one. The lambo has everything. Balance, throttle, braking etc.
Also you are consistently hitting 1:44s which are d5 laptimes true begginers dont do that. So you are a sim racer. I feel most begginers i see times cant even get d6 usually they are a few seconds off. So idk if they should go by your list. Real begginers barely understand the basics and arent consistent. The cars you drove fastest are very active cars except for the mclaren which is just fast. Sometimes base speeds dont tell you everything about what a begginer should drive. It shoupd be purely about feel.
Well thank you for the compliment. Im about 50 hours of game play at the point of this video, still under 100 hours now, and I did GT6 over 10 years ago. I honestly still don't know where I sit in the peaking order of fast/slow, good/bad. But maybe I find I have to drop the beginner tag quicker then I expected. Ill just keep trying to improve and share it as I go.
@BradleySettersMotorsport well you are learning fast af so keep wirh it. You are gonna be a very fast sim racer.
I've got like idk 500+ hours in it and I have a hard time getting d2 consistently. I average like d3 times. Those last few seconds or last second is very hard to find once you get to a certain point lol. My biggest issue right now is I over drive the car which actually hurts my times. I need to relax more wnd just drive.
Also sry about the typos I'm on a phone and my thumbs do not agree or get along with it haha.
@@reviewforthetube6485 that is super kind mate. But your right, there is a long way to go. When you see the top top guys at 7000 hours in the game, its pretty impossible to think you can get near that fast. But practice makes progress right? Its going to be a fun journey.
@BradleySettersMotorsport for sure! Just don't overthink it at first like I did. It ruined my driving style a bit. I was doing alot so we'll naturally to all come back to actuslly learning I needed to go back to doing some of that. Just enjoy racing, learn trail braking and the rest will come. Also remember you usually can give more throttle on the exit then you think as long as your line is good. Exit is what matters most in sim racing and or acc.
Also if you just want to drive and not worry about setups for a while longer. Drive the ferrari, it has the best aggresive preset in the game of any car. Its competative with d2 times stock with its aggresive presets. Maybe even d1 so you can practice in the car all you want wnd get very very fast in it. The aggresive preset is for each track also so it automatically updates it for you. Safe presets are a bit to controlled and lose to much time when you really start pushing it.
@@reviewforthetube6485 Yea the Ferrari is what I have been using in Rookies, and its working for me there. Started to use a couple of TH-cam set ups which have made me faster, although not really changing the cars behaviour too much. Also practicing in the LFM servers has allowed me to follow the fast guys and that's been eye opening at times for line choice etc.
