To clarify it's a 10mm socket to get the air dam off. Also, wasn't shown in the video... make sure to put the bolts back in after removing the air dam.
Test drove an SR5 yesterday. I returned to the dealer today to put down a holding deposit for a TRD Off-Road w the manual transmission, estimate 4 week eta. Loved the way the SR5 drove even though it was an automatic.
Yeah the SR5 is smooth. Especially the longer wheel base double cab with the 6ft bed. I have that model in the 23 with the v6 and its smooth and quiet at 80mph. I had a 17 frontier on mud tires before and you couldn't hear yourself think at 80mph.
I love the new body style. Looks very rugged. If I bought one I would buy an SR5 ExtraCab 4x4 with all the electronic features including heated steering wheel and heated seats.
Picked up my Sport Premium 2 days ago. LOVE IT. This is an awesome truck. So many improvements over the 3rd gen. Well worth the price. Name me one thing that NOT gone up in price in the last 3 years . I currently own a ‘21 Sport (loaded) that I will keep, although the temptation is to trade it for a new model. I can probably trade/sell it for mort than I paid for it….
I’d like to know if the new engine has a better oil filter design and location . The old fashioned spin on filters ares sorely missed on the 3rd gen Tacoma . The canister style filter is a messy pain to change
What size is those bolts so I can be set before I lay down under there? (Side note: I have zero faith that it actually would make your MPG worse by removing it. It actually should be adding to it with aerodynamic drag but feel free to tell me I am wrong.)
If you're still interested in this question, ik it's been a month lol, I just removed my own valance and the hanging piece you see is a metal skid plate, the only thing loose is the insulation stuff on either end of the front bumper but I just reinstalled the bolts and it has no issues
We encourage you to test drive both the 2023 vs the 2024 “four banger” before you cast it aside! A lot more power and ride comfort is much improved. But you decide for yourself :)
I have the exact same color SR5. 4X4 And yes, I would like to remove the air dam because it looks stupid. But other than that I am very pleased with this truck. A Black wheel option would look sharper on the silver truck
$38,589 for 2024 SR with SR upgrade package, Black badge overlay and black tailgate insert. Picking it up today. Best deal for the best truck for my needs that I found after about a month of shopping.
LOL This 2 wheel drive SR5 Tacoma cost 500 bucks more than my 4x4 Colorado Trail Boss, plus mine has power seat, cameras, tow package , cruise ,etc every single option you can purchase ,,,I’m so glad I didn’t wait for this truck!
When you get a Push-Bar or BullBar added to the Taco, that air dam looks so unappealing on the truck, it's better with it off!~ An I own a 21 TRD Sport 4x4 Taco .
This is caused by air flowing past the holes on the lower control arm. 4 holes each side, Toyota has a part for it. A 3/4 nylon hole plug from a hardware works also. Once I installed the plugs and TRD skid plate the whistling was gone.
There must be various levels of trim within a trim level. My new 2024 SR-5 4WD looks just like the one in this video but long bed, I don't have the front or rear parking sensors, no safr landing tailgate, no LED bed lights, no sliding rear window, no detachable JBL speaker, no upgraded leather wrap steering wheel, no wireless charging, no trailer brake controller or floor mats. I think I paid around $37k before tax and fees.
@Max-cv7nn yes, you'll need to plug the holes in the control arms. There are 4 holes in each arm. Toyota sells the plugs. I am currently just using duct tape and the whistling sound is gone.
So I did this mod on my brand new sr5 4x4 and the very next day when I went to work I heard this very persistent high pitched drone. It was like air rushing over a ladder rack or something. No way I'm gonna listen to this all the time so I put the air dam back on and noise is gone. So Toyota probably new about this and had to design something to stop this noise. Not to happy I have to keep this ugly air dam on.
If you notice how it’s boxy, I bet they took that from the Nissan Frontier. Look at them and they look a bit similar despite them being different trucks. Nissan Frontier went with the boxy look and then Toyota basically took that boxy idea as if they came up with it on their own.
Not saying your wrong but atleast for this years tacomas they made them with more of the tundra style. Now if the tundra got it from Nissan I can’t say
The same people crying about prices are the same people who don’t mind their $270,000 house now being worth $450,000. Ya wanted huge screens and beep beep buttons like ford. Well now ya got it. It ain’t free!
Exactly. Everyone cries about “ohh Toyota doesn’t change the design, Toyota is too basic”. Well you wanted a “modern” design that has all the fancy tech. Now you pay the modern price.
That ugly air dam doesn't really save gas. The guys at TFL did a test on there 2024 it was only 1 mpg differance without it. You can make that up with a K&N air filter
"Waste of time and money" I'll stick to my 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport V6 3.5L, power seats with rear leaf springs and a 21.1 gas tank and rear window. The new 2024 Tacoma only has a 18.1 gas tank wich it means more gas stops on long trips. By the way leaf springs brings more stability and capacity load to a truck when towing and stronger (weather), suspension especially on the rust belt states. If I want to buy a sport car then I buy a Toyota Supra. Finally Turbo charge engines don't last as much as regular engines and they are way more expensive to maintain due to more mechanical parts involved.
Ive been getting 23-24mpg on my 2024. Range is still easily 350-400 miles. It would be better with the extra 3 gallons of gas but the smaller tank is not hurting it.
They went from V6 to 4 cylinder and added a Hoover Dam and the fuel economy is almost identical to previous generation. They also made the fuel tank smaller. I won’t be buying another Tacoma.
2 wheel drive also 🤯 , if some one’s spending 40k plus it better be a 4x4 at least, I payed 26,500 for my 2022 Sr5 2x4 but did get 30k for it at Chevy dealer towards my new Colorado TB

WHY not take down the weak cheap shocks,, THEN install all 4 FOX shocks for it,, YES, since u ve already got it up on the hoist,, replace them with high performance off road baja grade shocks,,,
That new Tacoma is hideous. Do people actually look at this truck and think “very nice?” Seriously, it’s horrid next to a new Ford Ranger Raptor or GMC Canyon AT4X. The interior is passable, but that exterior is just awful.

Can you replace and install a skid plate and if so which one can you order
the socket size he used would’ve been valuable information in a “how to remove” video.
I saw another video on yt, they said 10mm socket
10mm. It also has a Philips head screw receiver. Took mine off my 2024 limited for now. Love my little red truck!
Is it really necessary? You can test your sockets and have the right one in about 10 seconds.
What about the garanty??
What is the fuel mileage before and after removing the air dam?
It is less than 1 mpg difference.
what are the size of the bolts?
