So it’s the Huntsman with Phillips and magnifier instead of wood saw. It’s good they make SAKs with just a few slight variations. Means you’ll always find the one for you!

    • @ThriftyKaniffy

True, It's good for finding just the one you want. It also works in opposite. always having the ability select a different one for the day. Probably why I have so many of them now. Thanks, Steve.

I used to carry a Tinker for some years. It's sometimes hard to use a sideways Phillips, a corkscrew I've never needed, nor can opener, bottle opener has become obsolete, never needed an awl.
The package hook would be cool if they still wrapped packages in string and I was a porch pirate.
I think SAK are cool, but most of their options are useless to me.
P.S. i like the saw on my larger SAK and have used it, but never needed it.
The tweezers on my Tinker were used several times some years ago for young granddaughters getting splinters and bee stings--yea!

The Explorer is one of my constant companions. I actually swapped the scales with plus scales to add the ink pen. I think the one thing people need to understand with the explorer is the screwdriver layers is one of the wider layers so the Explorer is a little chunkier than some of the other four layer knives. I normally just pocket drop it but I use a lanyard for easier retrieval. I would love to see the Yeoman return (Essentially a Phillips/magnifying glass layer added to the Compact. ) I use the magnifier all the time for checking tang stamps and such at the flea market. It seems like as soon as you start checking the knife with a magnifier the sellers assume you're an expert!

    • @ThriftyKaniffy
      @ThriftyKaniffy  ปีที่แล้ว

I really like function set on it. I know the magnifier will see loads of use with these old eyes. I use the metal clip designed for the keyring, it works a treat. Thanks, Tobias.

I use one of those Keysmart Nanoclips on the keyring to keep my SAK off to side and top of pocket. Seems to work pretty well.

My favorite of the big SAKs I drive a truck with a Leatherman in the console and am a retiree with a house full of toolboxes so I’ve never gotten the habit of carrying the huge SAK in my pocket I grew up in the shop with every tool in the world at hand so I never needed two pounds of Sweet Swiss Engineering in my watch pocket lol
But to each their own It’s a beautiful knife and will look lovely hanging from the hook in my knife case when I buy it and never use it except perhaps as Tobias suggests to take it to flea markets to look at tang stamps with the magnifying glass lol
Thanks for another great review TK

Man, I might have to get one of these. Love that inline Philips, and that magnifying glass, how cool. I prefer the black or blue scales, but the red is cool, so iconic. It’s funny, all the crazy modern expensive folders, and all the great traditional patterns available, I always recommend a SAK, over all other options cuz you just can’t beat the value, convenience, durability, of these Swiss made gems. I literally carry my huntsman everyday in my little edc bag I keep in my car and at work, even tho I usually have some rough Ryder or vintage slip joints in my pocket. You just never know when you might need it.

I have several of the early Explorer version in my collection. When they went
to the all plastic magnifying glasses, I stocked up on the glass lens
ones in the gray frame. Recently there has been a consensus that
the latest version with its larger glass lens is easier to use. So I recently
purchased one my self and I am very happy with it. The larger lower power
lens, 6x compared to the 8x in the original Explorer is easier to use, my old eyes
    appreciate that fact.

I bought one almost 2 years ago after the one I had slipped out of the velcro pouch while walking my dog. I also have a Explorer plus that I bought on Ebay with the grey magnifying glass.
