Almost forgot about this series, almost done on with it though I would think, really enjoyed the video the water pump turned out tidy in the end, you did have your suspicions about no gland packing. Thanks Keith 😃

An old fix for a boat motor drive shaft going through the stern of the boat was to wrap an oiled rag in the direction the prop turned. It would keep water from coming in so there's a lot of truth to your wrapping that graphite yarn.

I think You nailed a thing here i came to like with the BA system, since i started to use it actualy. You are completly right about the importance of the rigt type of threading for the right applications.
(I even used it for some new parts on my old German machines)

Some BA & Metric threads are quite close.

@@keithappleton Yes, it has been a genuinly interesting journey, and i realy want to thank You for teacing me and other guys abot this, the BA system are not that well known where i live, but i will deffinitly spread a word about it now.
A man with name Neville Wheeldon made a mini serie about the restoration of the Lancaster bomber "Just Jane" and it realy got me int this system.

This makes my Gilbert steam engine look like a toy. Oh wait, it was a toy! But with my dad helping I enjoyed watching it spin! We later spent time at the Canadaigua Steam Pageant every year with our little hit-and -miss engine. I even got to ride on a real steam tractor and learned they are hard as heck to steer! I don't really know why people are so fascinated with steam engines, but I think it has to do with all the exterior action and the smell of burning coal and steam that reminds us of our past. Plus, we really like work, we can sit and watch people like Keith work all day!

Do you make your own graphite yarn or is it a commercial product

Yes, but the old new stock stuff is better than the current graphited yarn that you can buy.
