Lol, I love me some Toyota trucks! I'm going to have to repaint that ol girl. The hood and top are faded pretty bad but for an 05 I'm still tickled with it! Thanks for watching and commenting! God bless
I can honestly say that biggest problem with this gun in my opinion is the scope bases. I would suggest getting a 1 piece base to be more adjustable for eye relief. But keep in mind some bases have different screw thread patterns. I don't know right off what they are. Thanks for watching and commenting! God bless
I don't dis agree with those rifles. I intended to buy the gen 2 Ruger American but at the time they were on back order. I'm trying to decide on what winchester xpr I want to try. But both are on the list to try as I can! But for lower 48 and on the east coast 7mm-08 is in my top 5 go to calibers! Thanks for watching and commenting! God bless
You can put together a cheap barrel cooler. Check out the video desert dog did. Also, when shooting copper such as the cx, you need a clean barrel. Tests have been done on that, not sure why.
Good point. I need to put something like that together. Most of the time I only have a couple of hours to get set up to shoot. And been trying to learn about copper fowling as well. Looks like I may need to shoot copper separately after having cleaned the barrels after standard ammo types. Thanks for watching and God bless
This is a fact my friend. I have abandoned some great ammo and even turned people away from it because I did not have that information. I saw this in another video and decided to try it, I was shocked and had to buy seasoning for the crow that I had to eat.
You need a torque tool that important for accuracy start out at 50 inch pounds and work you way up at five inch pounds. Then check and see it it hold steady. You may need to add some thread lock to the action screws. When you tighten the action screws hole the rifle pointing up a couple of light bumps then tighten the action screws that help to keep the recoil lug in the right place. Adjust that trigger as light you can get it. You can adjust your grip don't rap it around but put your thumb at rest raping around your steering the rifle. Two touching then a flier sounds like a bedding problem. If the bottom end is plastic the part the action screws go through that is not good. Magpul is plastic but where the action screws go through is metal bushing. That for the 700 savage I am not sure.
You would think working as an journeyman electrician that I would have torque driver.. I need one!. Due to a bad hand injury 3.5lbs is low lbs Asian feel. That rifle is v block bedded but a very flimsy forarm. Since then, I have found that holding it or laying it on sand bag closer to the action than the end of the forarm made a good difference. Thanks for watching and commenting. God bless
Im on the fence right now.. buying my first long range bolt action rifle this week (more for the purpose of learning long range precision shooting as opposed to hunting) and currently my 3 top options right now are: Savage 110 Engage Hunter XP 22" barrel with scope combo - in .308 Remington 783 Tactical 24" Heavy Barrel Threaded - in .308 Ruger American Standard 22" barrel in .308 All 3 of these rifles are roughly in the same price range - which one would you suggest? Personally, I am strongly leaning towards getting the Remington 783 HBT in .308 Some people have also told me that they feel the Savage 110 platform is just a superior platform while all of the others like the Remington and Ruger are all pretty much based off of the Savage Axis platform of rifles. Yours and anyone else's personal advice would be most welcomed.
I haven't shot the 783 tactical but standard 783 did pretty well. I do think that the Ruger or Savage is a really good starter. I am also working to push my limits out farther. The 308 is a great caliber and not to expensive to shoot. But I wouldn't totally dismiss a 6.5 creedmoor mostly because of availability and and it is easier to stay in the gun and spot your shots. For me the money and adjustability, I would look at the Ruger american gen 2. I really appreciate you watching and commenting. God bless
Is that a bipod mounted to the rifle while shooting from the rest? I noticed from shot to shot it varies in placement. Rifle can’t recoil the same. Take it off next time and see if it helps.
Yeah it was. I shot 2 other rifles that day and just didn't take it off. Paid for it with one of the other rifles by smashing a finger between bipod and rest upon firing a moderate recoil rifle.
I got a savage 110 trail hunter lite in .308. Has a fluted 20 inch barrel which has a hogue stock with aluminum bedding block. For $499. Haven’t shot it yet. Just got a scope. WHOTEEWHO on TH-cam has shot these savage 110 trail hunters getting sub moa with Remington core lokt ammo. This guy cannot shoot. It’s him or his scope. These gun get MOA at 100 yards easily. Good shooters getting sub MOA all day long. Can’t wait to test mine.
The reason I know my gun has the aluminum bedding block is that I had to remove the stock to adjust the accu trigger down to its lowest setting. Then put it back together. The block is quite visible with the stock removed.
I couldn't find a 1 piece base at the local shops. So wanting to get a follow-up out on this gun I settled with leaving the 2 piece base and getting a set of sig saur medium height scope rings.
EGW, Warne, Leupold, DNZ products, and many other companies make affordable excellent quality one piece bases. Edit to add: Warne has mounts in stock on their website, AND they have a 20% off code, AND $5 flat rate shipping.
I couldn't find one locally but really wanted to get the rifle back to the range. I work full time so range time is as I can get it. I went with Sig Saur rings . Worked well, but yeah it really needs a good one piece base to really fix it. Thanks for watching and commenting. God bless
Lol yeah it is. Patience is always in me 😉. I looked locally and at bass pro about an hour away. Didn't have one to fit it. The Sig Sauer rings I changed out really helped! Thanks for the info!!!
Would you have a recommendation for what type of one piece extended base mount. I’ve been trying to find a serial number for a weaver mount and am having a hard time finding exactly what will fit on this rifle. Thanks for the help.

Just because you and I know that it was originally "ought 8" doesn't mean everyone else does. The gun tags and ammunition both are written as 7mm- 08 or 7mm 08. It just an update to an old way of saying. Maybe a foul but know harm.

The 7mm-08 is a great cartridge by the way. I believe it's the flexible stock that's causing all the accuracy problems.

Look at the ruger american, 7mm 08. Under 500.00 price tag. Winchester has the xpr 7mm 08. New for around 515.00.

How do you remove the bolt ? I hope Savage abandoned the type where you gotta pull the trigger and push on the safety That's an awful design

When it was introduced Remington called it the 7mm OUGHT eight. Therefore that is the name of the cartridge. Not "Oh" eight. Please correct this.
