Hi Bhante. The community is important indeed, but it has to be a virtuous one, for otherwise it might be detrimental for spiritual development. The Khaggavisana sutta comes to mind at this point. It is somewhat long, but some parts can be highlighted:
    "(...)
    Avoid the evil companion
    disregarding the goal,
    intent on the out-of-tune way.
    Don't take as a friend
    someone heedless & hankering.
    wander alone
    like a rhinoceros.
Consort with one who is learned,
    who maintains the Dhamma,
    a great & quick-witted friend.
    Knowing the meanings,
    subdue your perplexity,
    [then] wander alone
    like a rhinoceros,
    (...)
    People follow & associate
    for a motive.
Friends without a motive these days
    are rare.
They're shrewd for their own ends, & impure.
    Wander alone
    like a rhinoceros."
    Sutta Nipāta 1.3
Interestingly enough, virtuous words are the last thing society would nowadays willingly listen to. It's really despairing, but unfortunately it's like that. Evil aka ignorance is somehow ubiquitous, all-encompassing and overpowering, virtue seeming to be able to thrive only in small pockets here and there. Virtue is too elevated to be understood by the majority of society, people have "too much dust in their eyes". The Talmud talks about goyims, the Quran talks about kuffars, Christians talk about pagans needing to be converted no matter through which means, etc. Ignorants are the overwhelmingly many, unfortunately. I had one friend I knew years ago, and I lost it because he was steadfastly trying to lead me to Christianity. At some point I decided to cut that friendship for good, for it was pointless to keep it in view of the circumstances, in this aspect it was imperious to remain "alone".
I wish many more would listen to Dhamma, but unfortunately it is only a very few who can really understand it and put it into practice.

Unity is hard to accomplish. Division is easy to accomplish. Yes I agree it is difficult. Thank you for the Dhamma passages. Dhamma is always refreshing.
