Actually there kicks in a second guitar at the second part of the intro that plays the higher notes so they play in harmony. So you can basically chose if you want to the 5/7-7/9-5/7 part again or the 8/10-10/12-8/10 as he explained.

your tuned a half step down from standard drop d, my suggestion use either a snark or a fender plug in tuner. but other than that great lesson! you are a really great teacher.
