Hi y'all! All links to the forms and referenced resources can be found in the description box so please check it out! UPDATE: So in the case of if your tax representative lives elsewhere and not near your local tax office to redeem the last 20% tax refund, I got in contact with the call representative of the Tokyo tax bureau hotline. She said that my tax representative who lives in Tokyo could go to his local tax office to fill out the forms and then mail those forms to my local tax office in Nara. 📎 Timestamps 📎 00:00 Intro 00:43 Disclaimer 01:04 Eligibility 01:30 Visual Overview 08:52 Paperwork: Lump-Sum Withdrawal 10:49 Application Required Materials 11:54 Paperwork: Tax Representative 12:46 Tokyo JET Wiki: Tax Representative 14:08 Tokyo Tax Bureau Hotline 14:45 Story-time: My Mistake 16:20 FAQ 17:43 Subscribe
I filed mine last September 2024 and they just deposited it on my bank today yayyyy! I’m a permanent resident in Japan and living in Tokyo for 15 years, just left last year. The paper work is easy and very straightforward just follow the instructions
Thank you so for this! I do have a question - My bank is solely online and does not have a physical location where I am. (Capital One) any advice as to how to fill out the bank information?
Thanks for this breakdown! I do have a question though - the blue pension book is no longer being distributed (as of April 2022), so I didn’t get one. Do you know where I could find the pension number? I’ve looked everywhere and I can’t find a definitive answer
Oh you're right! I had arrived in Japan in September 2021, so I got the blue book. I suggest asking your employer about your pension number, as they probably helped with the paperwork required to set up and contribute part of your salary to your pension.
We're usually opted into the pension service program. The paperwork itself is tedious but straightforward, and Japanese system is honest so you'll definitely get your money back as long as all the paperwork and processes are in order! :)
Is it possible to withdraw the pension fund if a person worked for more than 2 years in the Japan? In my knowledge 2 years is the maximum period that a person can withdraw his/her pension fund. Please enlighten thanks
Hi Brenda! Thank you so much for the video, I’m going through this process right now and this has been a big help. I was wondering about when filling out my bank account information on the lump sum withdrawal form, do I just fill in my account number or do I need to enter more information, like the routing number? Thank you!!!
Sorry this is so late, answering in case someone else sees this even if you already did the paperwork. Include the routing number! Given it's Japan, it's always better to provide more information and paperwork than less. I was a bit cautious, so I wrote next to the numbers the Japanese translation of what each number was
Thank you very much!! I was able to fill everything out and got my payment :) Your video was very helpful, I didn’t see any other guides that answered my questions.

I think the number of years is longer than that. I want to say it's 5 years but I'm not sure. Please double check!
