This is a masterpiece, the music, the transition from peace to horror, the art of the monster, it's like a combination of art with real life, everything it's done correctly, you are the best!
I love this series, and this video in particular. I cannot get over the small details and the melancholic feeling of this video. My favorite detail is how at 0:18 and 0:31 the piano hesitates instead of just stopping. It is like the pianist themself is scared of what is downstairs. Then, when we see the black figure, it seems like they didn't expect it and take a moment to realize what it is before stopping completely.
I haven’t felt genuine unease in such a long time, so thank you for that. Most horror doesn’t really feel like horror anymore. The monster looks like something that’s haunted my dreams my entire life. To see it outside of my head, to hear it’s voice (which sounded terrifyingly similar to my dreams), shook me inexplicably. Fantastic job.
For me, it's the environment: The basement layout is EXACTLY like the one from the house I just moved out of, except my workshop on the right side of the hallway is deleted, and the small room at the end didn't have the creepy "bathroom" where nothing worked on the right of it. Oh, and the large empty room where we spent 99% of our time when we actually used the basement would've been *EXACTLY* where that entity is standing against the wall. We had all sorts of electrical issues down there too...

This whole video is full of brilliant metaphors and symbols. The two horned creatures represent the positive and negative sides of one's personality. Positive being woken up by Negative staring through the window represents the fact that Negativity is hard to push away, and in a mentally vulnerable state (like sleep or rest) it comes back unless a conscious and active effort is made to push it away. The fact that "ignoring the sounds" is mentioned twice represents the fact that its so hard to keep negativity away, one needs repeatedly remind oneself. The fact that all the positive activities are done indoors represents the character in question and their potential social anxiety or tendancy to shut-in. This is further supported by what Negative says when Positive goes downstairs. When Positive does go downstairs, its almost as if Positive has given up on pushing Negative away, and walks towards it. I think this is visualized by the text fading when Positive walks downstairs. Based on this its almost as if all the activities that were done were just distractions from the noises downstairs, but eventually they couldnt be ignored. This video represents a futile attempt to push away negative emotions rather than deal with them. It depicts healthy activities, but in context of the video as a whole these activities are unhealthy coping mechanisms; forced positivity. The failure to push negativity aside makes the negativity come back even stronger, and makes dealing with the emotions even harder. I think this being depicted in a creepy context is meant to dissuade people who are actually in this loop from continuing this unsustainable lifestyle.

Una persona a pesar de querer ignorar una mala situacion haciendo cosas buenas y productivas, al final no puedes evitar estar en un mal momento que tarde o temprano tendras que enfrentar porque si no lo haces te perseguira en todo momento. Asi interprete el video
This series is an example of pure philosophical art. It has the mask of analogue horror, but it's really just a telling of the terror and pain of isolation, something impossible to put into words.
@buttercupbarbs4283 it's fair to think that, I do agree that it's very on the nose, but in my opinion, I think the imagery and general presentation of the message more than make up for the lack of subtlety.

The introduction to shadow is just scary. Such а transition from a simple drawing that is already scary, looks like a trigger, like you have some time to leave before it starts moving. Masterpiece.
This is actually comforting... Ignoring the sounds in the basement, ignoring mental struggles and trying to distract from them. And the reminder at the end. Thank you :)
In my understanding, this video is about social anxiety. The figure really isn't actually the monster as we picture it to be. He's just a figure that was somehow shaded black, it's an implication on how little we know about the image of a person, due to how little we make contact with them. As for his eyes, I feel like it's a symbolism on how hard it is for people with social anxiety to maintain eye contact with people. He also has the same head shape as our character, but lacks the horns. It's an implication that this dark figure isn't the bad influence, that whatever is wrong with us, it's our own demons. It's ourselves that makes us give ourselves into temptation, by focusing on the "small victories" instead of trying to overcome our problems (tribulation). Another thing is, notice the drawing in 0:24 ? it has the same shape as the figure we see downstairs. Which means it's very likely that it is someone close to us, someone who cares about us. And when the figure starts to speak, the song suddenly gets louder. It's not the monster that is making this noise, this is the noise we hear throughout the video, just louder, trying to silence the voices that try to reach out to us.
@Motivation I watched this twice. Once to see what it was... And again to see it in the context that you ascribe. *My hands were shaking so much that I had to stop for a minute so I could type this comment. Never EVER again (will I watch this video clip)!*
It's been almost 2 years since our first lockdown and quarantine. My dad may have contracted the virus a couple days ago and is showing symptoms as of this morning. Watching this video today really hit me differently :( EDIT: Thank you all for the kind words!! We cannot get tested because Canada sucks rn but my whole family has symptoms and we're isolating and taking care of ourselves. We're sick, but it's not too bad... we're ok.
That music after the video transitions to “harmless positivity” to “downright horror” is so beautiful! The distorted notes have this disturbing and melancholy yet majestic sound to it, as this character glides over to you and whispers in your ear. Truly an amazing work of art my friend. A masterpiece! 👍
It sounds like when you accidentally broke an old gameboy game and the 8-bit music would lag and become distorted. Nostalgia must be related to horror cause damn
@@greatwavefan397 DUDE I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE WAY YOU SAID THAT. So beautifully stated. Took the words out of my mouth. You should be an art critic. Thank you
i love this type of horror - it hits you in the spot in your brain you desperately try to avoid. that dread of real life. “when was the last time you saw your friends?” it reminds me of things i hear in my head during a bad depression episode.
I've seen a lot of horrifying things, and to be quite honest, I have become unfazed by a lot of horror. This however, struck a chord in me that hasn't been struck before. I don't know what this is you have created, but this is true horror at its finest. Well done.
Dang thank you man the shadow guy rly a nice guy instead of jump scaring us and killing us he gives us some good advice in life! He first tells us when did u last go outside he just wants us to touch some grass then he says when did u last see ur family or friends he just wants us to meet them thanks man your a very nice and kind guy thank you!😊

i love the type of horror that at first uneases you, but after a while it starts to grow on you and you dont feel scared anymore, sometimes even comfort
I think feeling comfort with horror goes against the genre as a whole. It feels more judgmental than comfortable imo. he doesn't attack you, he just sits there watching you hate your own life and hanging on to "small victories" to keep yourself going, and eventually the questions come, are those words spoke with the purpose of helping or shaming? That's what makes it a good horror example At least thats what i got from the video lol
@@anonamoly what I meant, he looks somewhat like my sleep paralysis demon and an embodiment of the weird feeling I feel whenever I'm near my bathroom 👀🥀🕳️
I just discovered this series and I can say I feel a connection to the main character in this one. I actually have a note that hangs from the small tv stand that is in my room reminding me of small victories that I can do everyday. I don't have to complete them all but making sure I do at least one of them makes me feel better during all of this.
This was so good. I actually don’t ever get chills from these, but the art style, the transition to real life, the feeling of it was so unsettling and the eyes.. 10/10. Well done.
This is absolutely stunning. I am an animation student that was losing my interest in the art because of how cut and dry the practice is taught in school. Finding this web series has absolutely revitalized the spark. The art style and combination of different frame rates is so incredible. Putting aside how aligned the message is with my own struggles with mental illness, I cannot think of another piece of media that even comes close to the pure life this video has. It truly represents the art of animation and self-expression.
that thing going from cartoon to real footage with odd movement was top notch and a perfect uncanny valley. i really loved the design; most things normal, with unexplainable impossibly long horn-like stuff. it really sets you off. AHS coven intro also has some resemblance to this. man, i'm just loving it..
I have loved this animation and the direct questions that it asks of those who are most vulnerable. I saw the black, two pronged one during the sleeping segment a hundred times, but I didn't notice the change from "waking at a reasonable hour" to "waking at all" until today. I love this animation and the direction behind it, and it still surprises me to this day no matter how many times I see it
Looking back on this now the ending is no longer scary to me, learning what the actual point behind the channel oddly makes me feel comfort in the last scene, as if he's protecting me, I love this series
A lot of people are saying that the thing in the basement is either chill or scary, but I think its symbolizing doubt and/or depression. How at the beginning he says, "these are troubling times my friend" I think that means he is having trouble with people, but can do things on his own, ignoring the sounds in the basement seems to apply that maybe our main character is trying to stay away from these questions to stay happy, but inevitably cannot. The drawing at 0:24 just symbolizes him trying to take his mind off of his sorrow but cannot. Even at the beginning of the video, we see depression in the window at around 8 seconds, which means he wakes up feeling depressed and doubting himself if he can make it. This video does a wonderful job at taking a difficult subject and making a video fully about seeing the full picture. Work of art.
I find this more melancholy than scary. I've been stuck at home for weeks, not because of quarantine so much as because I can't drive and don't have anywhere to go. My mom is all I have left since my dad died earlier this year, but she's almost never home. I really haven't seen my friends or family in a long time, and every day feels the same. It feels like the guy at the end is saying "go outside, get some fresh air, and say hi to the neighbors so you dont completely lose it", rather than anything threatening.

What an impresive and detailed analysis, that make me feel, dirferent

It sounds like when you accidentally broke an old gameboy game and the 8-bit music would lag and become distorted. Nostalgia must be related to horror cause damn

It’s an analogy for depression, specifically brought own by lockdown. Dates add up , as well as all the things mentioned in the video
I believe the original title was something about quarantine or lockdown. This is a video about taking care of your mental health during lockdown.
