My husband was a mechanic and I treated all his oil and grease stains with Dawn dish soap. Wet the area rub in the Dawn. Let it set for a few minutes. Washed in Hot water and worked great. I just figured if it could get tar and oil off birds should work on clothes.
When we stopped using Tide liquid we noticed that the clothes weren’t cleaning the best, especially the grandkids clothes.. so Tide works best for us, and I pre-treat stains with Shout. I’ve tried the new tide pre-stain liquid, but in my opinion, it doesn’t work as well as shout, and it is a little cheaper. I do not like bleach for stains on white clothes at all so it shout for all stains for us.
i have noticed the same tide liquid doesn't cleans as well as i expected and in fact switched to an powder detergent the gain and actually works great on an Bosch he washer
We use Tide, in the powdered form. I have been using the amounts you said , awhile back. I also use SHOUT for Stains, works great. The last big Box of Tide I bought, I wrote on it, when it was purchased. We still have some left, and I bought that on the 2nd of NOV. 2023!!!! My husband is always working with fixing vehicles, or with our livestock, so his clothes get Dirty!!! As Does our grown Grandson, that lives with us. Our clothes are just as clean, as they were with liquid laundry soap. I have saved a huge amount of money, by buying powered Tide laundry Soap. Wouldn't go back. BUT, not many stores sell powdered laundry soap anymore. Our Clothes are clean, do not smell, I'm really happy with Powdered Tide Laundry Soap. WE live in Alberta Canada, so clothes get dirty on our little farm.

Maybe do one on the various stain removers?🤷♀️ I’ve been using the Foca powder for a few years and for us, it cleans as well as any of the more expensive powders or liquids! I've used Persil for about 4 years now and love it! My favorite is the OXI branded one because I think it smells the best compared to the other versions they have. I've also used to Tide Ultra Oxi and found it works just as well. Tide/Persil + Oxiclean together work amazing!
This was very interesting. Some of these I would have thought would have done better. And you even showed how some didn’t even get out odors. I use arm and hammer Unscented because I’m allergic to scents, good thing I only get an occasional stain. Very good video.
I think you really took one for the team on this experiment, and for that I thank you. I have used many different detergents but I think the key is using that very small amount --1 to 2 tbsp per load-- that Pistol and you recommended. I used far too much liquid detergent, to the point of having to buy a jug of it every month. Since I use less no matter what brand I use my clothes get clean, they smell clean, and I know that I'm being gentle with my machine because the soap in excess can really break your washer. Less IS more.😊 Also, I'm saving money$$$
Very few things will take out motor oil. My hubby got really dirty at his job. I ended up buying special heavy duty detergent. (Discontinued) Ammonia helps cut the grease used with your regular detergent.
I would stick with spray wash and FOCA because the bottle cap is at least small enough to not waste so much. I think it smells pretty neutral. Even if you use twice as much as recommended, it's only 3 dollars per bottle.
Interesting experiment. When I was in the Navy, the only way I could get my oily work uniforms clean enough to pass inspection was with the Pine Sol or Top Job type cleaners. Wouldn't suggest that for any but the sturdiest clothing, though.
I use Dawn on grease. One time my ex-husband sister just bought him a t-shirt for his birthday he wore the shirt and went help a person with a motor and came home all greased up I put it in a bag and seal it and let it soak then I washed it the next day and it came out clean as a whistle. He was lucky because his sister would have been so pissed

I heard that 2 tbsp is enough to clean your clothes. Too much detergent is suppose to be bad for the fabric....(not my findings, just listening to youtube)! LOL! I can't see those lines in the cap very well so I'm sure I overfill it!
I've watched ALL your videos so far, and I am EXTREMELY thankful; you took so much time doing this testing for us!!!! Thank you DEARLY!!!!!!! Now I know what to use - and to pre-treat A:: stains for sure! ALL we eat here is meat - we are Carnivores, and I make a LOT of bacon! Most ALL of my clothing is stained with bacon grease! Heck, even the Keto lifestyle of eating leaves a kitchen with animal fats that can stain clothing! Now I know never to expect any of it to come out with powder or liquid detergent unless I pre-treat it! But.....;vegetable oil, corn oil, soybean oil, those are machinery oils, are probably even worse to get out! We don't use or eat ANY seed oils, so phew, there!!! I really wonder WHAT uniform companies use to clean their uniforms that shops use? My partner worked with a ton of grease on a CNC machine - he REEKED of the oil after work, and some jobs were worse than others and had a super strong odor! NONE of his clean uniforms he brought home weekly to wear the next coming week ever had stains nor did they have any machine oil odors! Again, I really wonder what they used for a detergent? Probably something super strong that only commercial machines can handle instead of our household machines....just thinking out loud there, for what it's worth! Thank you, again, and dearly so!!!! When I lived in Singapore, Persil was the detergent I used, had never seen it in the states. It made small holes all over my clothes in no time. Hopefully it has improved.
I use Awesome spray, dawn and Tide stain spray for stains. Works every time. I got tire tread marks (from the rubber playground stuff kids play on) out of my kid's very expensive uniform pants. It also helps to just use a bit of Dawn, and scrub the stain with a brush. However, that isn't for all fabrics. Scrubbing can damage sensitive fabrics. Otherwise, I really just use laundry detergent to make the smell of clothes better. (Just a light scent, nothing crazy). Also definitely no fabric softeners
I like what I use but it works for us on our farm. I know you couldn’t pre-treat to do an even test. I do pre-treat all my stains with the oxy spray. I wash with tide sport which has a wonderful lavender smell and I put it up to the 2 in the cap for all the loads. I use vinegar in rinse which I think does help not just the machine but it helps the clothes. And then it goes in the dryer with just some lavender dryer sheets. This is the formula that I think works best. I’ve tried every cheap one and it doesn’t take out the manly smells or the farm smells and this works best for us. Thank you for all your hard work doing the east house. I hope you can find a charity or other organization to donate the soap to.

Thank you for this labor intensive test. Not encouraging. I'm going to play around with LA's super whatever pretty soon because I have used everything, including Murphy's oil soap, oxy, and homemade detergent with varying degrees of success. But I am still waiting for the product that will keep my synthetic fabric bras from turning to a dirty grey-white, or turn them back to some semblance of bright white. Polyester is the two edged sword of clothing.
Home made all the way!! That and vinegar. All you need. I did laundry professionally for 14 years. Hair spray on ink. Hydrogen peroxide for protein stains (body fluids etc).
@@sia3206 We melt a bar of grated Zote soap in about a gallon of very hot water then add aprox a cup of Borax and a cup of Washing Soda stir them together and add another two gallons of water. Use a quarter to half cup for each load of laundry. We also put a cup of regular white vinegar in each load which has disinfection qualities and acts to soften clothes. I hope you found this useful. There are other recipes online.
I noticed with my husband’s work clothes that were white, I had to separate his shorts from his pants. He had painters pants and his shorts were polyester button down. If I washed them together the shirts got dingy looking, but if I washed separately, they came out white.
Can you test stain removers? I use Kids N Pets or Dawn mostly and Fels-Naptha Stain Remover, Pre-Treat but I know there are so many other so called stain removers that don’t do anything. Kids N Pets is my go to. I used it on laundry, rug and artificial grass. Use Dawn for grease, fels naptha for long set-in stains. Also , I don’t know if you want more things to test but rug cleaning solutions…I use a little clorox 2 mix with Kids N Pets and pretreat stains with Kids N Pets.
I never ever just wash with laundry detergent. ALWAYS pretreat, usually with Great Value's pre treatment spray, before I put the soiled item in the laundry hamper. The regular dosage usually works fine then.

Now I know that phosphate ban ruined all the clean clothes. But can't blame them cuz it was damaging the environment. It just sucks all around.

Yeah I heard that it was a European thing when it first came out. So I tried it and immediately it blew gain out of the water! I've been using it ever since. Then I became a couponer and I never run low on it.
My husband is a garbage man. I just presoak the really badly stained stuff in a five gallon bucket with a cap full of liquid laundry detergent over night. Usually does the trick. I also have a spray bottle filled with 1/4 liquid laundry detergent and 3/4 water for pretreating if it's needed. (Cheap or expensive doesn't seem to matter much.) I will also use Clorox color safe bleach in the wash if the presoak didn't get all the gross, black mysteries stains completely out.
Okay why did you use a couple of detergent with oxy and not all the detergents with oxy or color safe bleach? Also Consumer Reports ranked Costco Kirkland brand in the red bottle as one of the best. So why did you not include it in the video?
Not trying to be difficult but I think cooking oil would have been a better oil than the motor oil. Cooking oil is more common. Just a thought. Great experiment otherwise 👍
You know, labels on products are important! I will go out of my way to purchase products that not only include pertinent info on their labels, but ALSO make them readable!! Anyway, product use labels are overlooked but I think they’re important.

Persil absolutely wins for the clean scent! And it cleans the best on all our stains.
We like All free and clear with Oxi. Might try the Persil + Oxi but unsure if they have a free and clear version.

Most home made detergents work with HE washers. As long as what you make it with doesn't make alot of suds.

I feel like 2 tbsp only works for small loads and light soiling..no way will it work for larger heavy soiled loads

I found pretreat, hot water wash, cold rinse and any soap works for me.

I would like to see you test Biz and other pre-soak products and just use the same detergent with all of them.
I use tide powder and use alot less than their recommended amount. I've also heard that the mexican brands....powdered, are good for removing stains.

Oil/grease= spray nine or greased lightning. If it’s pretty heavily stained use simple green. And this is cooking and motor oil/grease.

These phosphate free laundry detergents coupled with the newer style HE washing machines are all terrible :(.
