There are some drugstore brands that work pretty well still! My roomate uses the honey treasures and her hair is down to her belly button.

We have more and better brands in Europe than in other continents. Most brands from America are forbbiden in Europe, due to being highly toxic, leading to different diseases, like cancer. Also non European brands are not designed for European hair, so they probably won't work anyway.
As @diekje8728 said, the products and tutorials recommended for straight hair are for curly hair that as been straightened. Which is not the same thing. So, if you have European hair, be it 1A, 1B or 1C (I have 1C), go for European brands. You'll be totally fine.
The highest difference I've found are: using wood and silicone brushes and combs, leave in conditioner, ionic blowdrier/iron/curler to polish your hairstyle so it last for days until your next wash, blowout cream, iron/curler heat protectant spray AND olive oil for the ends.
Yes, I use the olive oil I have in my kitchen, but marinated with rosemary I introduced in the bottle. And it's better than argan/coconut/avocado/jojoba/whatever fancy and expensive hair oil sold in beauty stores 😂I smell like salad, though.

However, Chris's advice to use professional products, including a leave-in conditioner and protectant has been a complete game-changer for me. I never realised how much of a difference this switch would make, and although the professional alternatives are far costlier than their drugstore counterparts, as Chris pointed out in another video, we're making an investment in our health - after all, hair is part of the body, and for women in particular, we'd like it to be our crowning glory and not something we want to hide under a hat!

    2. I actually use less product with the professional stuff and as I’m not washing my hair as much I don’t think the cost difference is as much a it may seem, it’s just more expensive in one purchase

I'm a stylist myself and this video makes me mad 😒 Right off the jump, you're using products that don't even remotely equate to one another. If you use a drugstore moisturizing shampoo/conditioner, do the same with the high end. Volumizing shampoo and conditioners are voluminzing because they contain fewer heavy, moisturizing ingredients. A blowdry mist does not equate to a blow cream/balm. Use they same types of products for comparison. There are drugstore products out there that are quality and that work. Our job as stylists is to educate clients on the best way to care for their hair- that includes educating ourselves on brands that may be more affordable to them. Because let's be real, the retail price of high end brands is NOT the same price as what is on our invoice when we order it 😊 High end products may sometimes have slightly more quality ingredients, but a lot of ingredients are similar on mid-tier and high-tier drugstore products. Hell, I used my boyfriends sisters Suave shampoo and conditioner recently (not the bottom shelf $1 one, fffr) because that was all that was available to be, and I was HIGHLY impressed. I felt like my whole career of knocking drugstore products was a lie, and it kinda is. I'm that stylist that doesn't judge you, and my main concern is you being able to maintain your hair from home with what you can afford!

I have fine, thin hair too. One of my stylist described my hair as “all baby hairs” 😅 because it’s so fine.
The roots close to my forehead get oily very quickly. With my fine hair, the oil doesn’t have enough hair to soak it up and distribute it. I’ve hear that curly hair strands are more porous, so they soak in oil better.

Wait! Before you switch products, here are a couple of pointers, from someone that used to be in the same boat:
      1) Give your scalp and hair time to adjust! So many other factors can affect the need to wash hair - humidity, electric heat in the house/office, weather outside, hormones, diet changes, etc. - the same factors that affect our skincare needs affect our scalp! If it still isn’t working after a month with the way you’re using it, then try:
      2) switch techniques! Make sure to do a double wash on wash day, ideally with a clarifying shampoo first, and give your scalp a thorough scrub - I do about 5 minutes if I’ve been outside a lot, and no less than 3 for normal days. His “shampoo kung fu” technique is a great place to start. If that doesn’t help, last resort:
      3) Try using less of the products at a time. Dry shampoo, in particular, can be overused quickly (trust me, been there, cried from that) and will cause the scalp to dry out. AND… an oily scalp is really a dry scalp, trying to compensate for the dryness.
      Good luck!!!

High-end leave-in products are very useful. I can see the difference when I use them.
However, I save on shampoo because it’s all going down the drain anyway.
I gone through entire containers of high end sulfate-based shampoos, and I thought they worked similarly to my drug-store sulfate surfactant shampoos.
I think if I had thick, wavy, or curly hair, then I might be a lot more picky about shampoo’s, but I have an easy hair texture.

This seems like it would naturally cause frizz. Also, to me, her hair looked greasy and flat on both sides after the blow dry. Finally, I’ve watched several of these videos and I’ve yet to see anything on how to to style naturally curly hair. Not everyone wants a cookie cutter beach waves.

The newer videos explain that he uses Dominican salon techniques and that curls don't matter as much as texture (fine, med, coarse). The co-owner of the salon has natural ringlets - can't tell if 2 or 3 - and wears it straight, but all the tips on hair health apply to everyone. So just take the "trinity routine" care advice from this channel and get the styling advice from elsewhere.

What's your take on pharmacy shampoo ?
For what I can see in social media, it's not common at all to use pharmacy shampoo in the US, but here in France it's the most popular option and I can see why, I love them (particularly the brand KLORANE) since they focus mainly on scalp health. Although social media is influencing me into wanting to try professional products (I've barely ever used drugstore, I hate it), but I was curious as to what the difference between pharmacy and professional.
PS: Pharmacy doesn't necessarily mean dandruff/medicated shampoo ;) They are meant to be used like regular shampoos, they're just sold in pharmacies and the brands are part of skincare labs instead of cosmetic.

      @sofiacarballo4004 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@etheriumrise39 Actually Klorane has reformulated all of their shampoos, they have removed sodium laureth sulfate and made the formula BIO so it may be because of that. However, personally the quinine shampoo is my least favorite of them because the small percentage of alcohol denat in it (used to enhance penetration of the ingredients given that it's a shampoo for hair loss) makes my hair feel disgusting. But this has happened with both the new and old formula.

Your List is SPOT ON!--BOUGHT EVERY PRODUCT LISTED AND HAVE ZERO REGRET. I just cleared out my product graveyard (except my mouse and gel when I want to go naturally curly..... A product list for that would be much appreciated).
I'm 49, and my hair is: long (past shoulders), thick and coarse, very wavy with some coils around my face and crown, graying- Sahara Desert Dry hair that I have not colored for 5+ years, that only needs to be washed once every 10-14 days. I cut my hair every 3-5 months. In the last 6 months, I have been battling knots that creep into my hair during the night, which cause breakage when brushing them out or a daily re-wet and recondition. I just bought every product on your list for my hair type and a Revlon blow dry brush. I have zero regrets.
I'm only 12 hours into my first wash routine and have cleared out my product graveyard. It includes but is not limited to: BedHead, Curl Smith, Ouidad, Not-Your-Mother's, Twist, Renpure, and many other cheaper Wal-Mart brands like Suave, Pantene, Aussie, and more.
    Pros:
*I only need a small amount of shampoo for my hair for each double wash. It's going to last forever because I'm not going to use a ton of shampoo to wash crap products out of my hair anymore.
*My ends are already softer. Last night, when I washed and dried, I saw an immediate difference, but I was amazed when I woke up this morning, and they still looked and felt soft. It was the first time I woke up in months, and my hair didn't look like sun-dried straw, all tangled in knots.
*My mids are shiny, smooth, and bouncy. I can't ask for anything better
*My roots--I no longer need a flyswatter to spank the "fly"-aways. (or products or smoothing combs/brushes)
*The Frizz is nonexistent--It's gone, poof, goodbye! I can't think of anything else to say about it. The only place the Frizz belongs is on the Magic School Bus! Not in my hair.
*My hair smells great. I love it. Really! When I woke up this morning, it still smelled like I had just washed it before adding the Moroccanoil. Once I did add the morning oil, WOW. It smelled even better.
*Less product amount is needed. I know my hair. I HAVE to put oil in it every morning and every night, sometimes during the day as well. It is just that dry. I can still go almost two weeks without washing because I have ZERO oil build-up on my scalp. However, instead of 1tsp-1Tbsp of oil each round, I'm only using 1/2 a pump to one full pump, which is a very small amount for me. Maybe as I continue to use the recommended products, I will be able to cut back on that as well. Time will tell.
*The Revlon blow dry brush is WAY easier than the round brush and blow dryer. One hand is for the blow dry brush, and one hand is free for picking up the next section. AMAZING!
*Static--My hair is attached to a static-conducting globe. I usually wake up with mile-high hair. It was flat, smooth, shiny, and ZERO static this morning. It's like the cord got unplugged or the switch got flipped off.
*Space Saving--I cleared out products from under the sink, in the shower, and in a storage area.
In my shower: Shampoo, Conditioner, and Hair Mask
On the bathroom counter: Leave-In Conditioner, Hair Oil, Dry Shampoo, and brush
Next to my Blow Dryer Brush: Blow dry cream
Next to my Flat Iron: Heat protectant
Bonus: The Moroccanoil I put in my hair (morning and night) makes my winter-dry hands soft and smooth.
If, for some reason, you made it all the way to the end of this--I rode the fence for quite a while thinking the "list" of recommended products would be just another money pit. It wasn't. The entire "list" cost me about $200.00 in my area. That is a fraction of the cost of the following I bought in the past: Diva Curl, Monat, Wen, and many other high-dollar product lines, each reaching $350.00 (or more) because you need so many specific products to do specific jobs. I did spend an additional $45.00 on the Revlon Blow Drying Brush, and I have ZERO REGRETS.
PS: I am not a "paid" reviewer or commenter. I am a regular person who paid every single sent for all the products I've discussed. I paid closer attention when Chris reviewed high-end shampoo/conditioner products, and he only recommended 1-2 out of 8-10 (I can't remember exactly). I took the "plunge" when he reviewed brushes and recommended the Dollar Store $1.00 Lama Brush over all but one brush, out of 5-6. I'm pretty sure he said it brushed even better than his own personal $2,000+ brush.
Also, if it was (but it's not) a complete load of crap and my hair wasn't any better off, I would have written and copied/pasted $250.00 worth of negative reviews on every single video he posted on youtube. Why? He boldly stated in a few of his videos that I would see an immediate difference after the first wash. Chris was 100% telling the truth. I saw an immediate positive difference in my hair.
PPS: I'm going on a 14-day cruise in September for my 30th anniversary. I planned on packing the bare minimum of products so I could travel carry-on only. I know not everyone can go two weeks between washes. Because I can, I plan on bringing travel-size products and the blow dryer brush. It will all fit into my liquids bag, and I will definitely get 3 washes, maybe even 4. And I will still be able to pack carry-on with awesome hair!

Absolutely love your advice! My fine ,frizzy, curly hair is now soft, shiny and manageable for at least 3-4 days. I got the Redken Frizz Dismiss leave in cream and the Pureology heat protector. I had the Revlon styling blow dry brush but never used it as I felt it dried out my hair too much. After watching your video on using it, it’s been a game changer! I now blow dry from both sides on “low” until my hair starts to feel hot..then I stop and move on to another section. Great tip! Now if you can do something about the 90degree humidity here in Southwest FL I’d be forever grateful 😍

I did the hair type quiz and got fine hair as a result, which I expected. I bought all recommended products and watched all the videos on how to use them. New to me is to wash my hair twice and the technique to spread the shampoo and to massage it in. I also bought a hot air brush and it works well. However, I've been fighting with my hair since starting the new routine. The products, especially the shampoo, changes the structure of my hair. I don't know why it is called volume injection because there is no volume now at all, and my hair is greasy after 1 day in a way that no dry shampoo has been able to fix it. I used to use a lot less products, just a 2 in 1 shampoo by H&S, and usually just let my hair air dry and got 2 days out of it easily before it got too greasy. Now I have a lot of products, blow dry for a rough dry, finish with a hot air brush. I don't see the benefit of having spent so much on products, having a more complicated routine now, and getting less out of it.

I buy sample/small bottles of anything when I first try them; not all products work on my hair like they say, after trying a few products you will get your own routine right for your own hair. These videos are just to give you an idea. Most of us have combination hair like combination skin. I also only try one new product at a time and also products do change formula without saying, so using the same thing that once worked some times no longer works, just happened to me so you have to change it around plus I find that my hair gets use to a routine and does not respond like it did so I will change it up a bit.

    • @sophia-marieyoung6773
      @sophia-marieyoung6773 ปีที่แล้ว +5

You changed too many things at once, so now you have to take things away one by one to see if they're not benefitting you. Maybe even go back to your old routine, and only use one different product or technique for a week or so until you isolate what's weighing down your hair.
I've been air drying my hair for awhile and I am not going to start blow drying just because he said we can get a better result. I am also not going to buy everything all at once, because I have a lot of professional hair products already.
If your hair is greasy after one day you're not cleansing it completely and/or you're adding in too much product. That's why I'd say go back to air drying...because then you're only using shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in conditioner. Worry about getting those 3 correct before moving to blow dry cream and heat protection, etc.

      @jessicakeefer5077 ปีที่แล้ว +6

OLAPLEX3 worked great for me for repair. My hair actually felt stronger after using it twice. If your hair is dry and constantly breaking it’s usually attributed to your hair not having moisture. Use a leave in conditioner and an oil to seal it in. He recommends pureology color fanatic leave in conditioner. It’s what I have and work great. I also use OLAPLEX 7 to help lock in the moisture.

Another note on OGX, for my hair it strips reds right out. I am a natural brunette and like to tone with reds. I was using OGX and noticed professional color with red in it bleed into the water and onto my towels for about two weeks. I happened to grab a small professional shampoo to travel while at the salon and noticed even my first wash after did not bleed. I have been using the professional shampoo ever since, and my red toner looks amazing until the grey/brown roots come in.

I spent a ton on morrocanoil just to find I am allergic. Never had that problem with dollar store brand and could easily go 7 days on it. So sad.
For what its worth, I think its the Chamomile that made my scalp breakout. Too bad many professional shampoos seem to like to add this. I only used the products twice and am still trying to calm my scalp down. What seems to be working is apple cider vinegar, witch hazel and water with a few drops of tea tree and peppermint. I guess its an expensive product that doesn’t make it into the cheap shampoos and why I have never had a problem with dollar store brands. Chamomile is related to ragweed, and since I get hay fever its something I have to avoid (also chrysanthemum and calendula)

Found your channel about 6 months ago, the improvement in my hair is worth every penny spent on the professional products…which by the way I still have over half the shampoo, 2/3 of the conditioner, 3/4 of the leave in conditioner & heat protector. The hair oil will probably last longer than me as I only use 2 drops. Plus, I’ve been able to extend getting color to 8 weeks instead of 4.
