Amazing - your trip sounds incredible. One other thing that might be really useful for a trip like that is to save that portion of the map ‘offline’ as you might lose service in parts. I used this on a roadtrip in Iceland. It was a life saver….
I have done this over the last few years from regional trips to 3 European vacations. I combine them with a shared Google doc with the traveling companions (usually my wife) and it covers these things: places or acitivities (divided into must-see, want, and fillers), general travel info, concerns, etc. I personally use a 3rd doc, a TO&E (Table of Organization and Equipment - from the military - no, I've been a civvy but that's another story). I have a template TO&E with everything listed: clothes, bags, camera equipments, meds, etc. I then make a copy for each trip and pare it down and add any specialized needs for that trip. I know what I need to pack and have a fab checklist. I know where I am going, how and when to get there (and why), and have options ready (just to chill, in case it rains, etc). As usual I leave in downtime and can always use fillers if I'm feeling active. HTH!

Great idea! Can you access it offline (for example if you're out of data coverage while hiking)?
It’s a life saver. And yes, I should have mentioned actually being able to save the map as ‘offline’. You can do this on your phone or the device you wish to have access to it on. You can select the area and it will cache it. Very handy if going remote…

Love Madeira , it's been a few years , very hilly but lovely place & people enjoy, but watch out for them plane landings can be rough lol
