That big old flywheel on there it can probably provide 6-12v. You would be better off with a steam powered turbine. You wouldn’t loose as much energy to friction. @@fsecofficial Apparently turbines require very hot steam to not take damage from water droplets, which is why I've been looking into steam engines myself. Do the intake- and cylinder holes have to be 100% aligned at the "top of the circle", or at 90°, for it to work? Awesome job - I’m gathering tools and supplies to build a small table top steam engine right now and this video gave me some great ideas. Nice clean job!
Good job, only thing the 'rack' that you screwed on the end of the crankshaft is in fact a 'toothed pully' and the 'pressure fuse' that you used as a stopper is a 'safety valve'.
You could make the boiler more efficient if you put some rods vertical as to let the heat warm all the water instead of just the bottom. Very cool build all around good job.
Oh boy! It would be awesome to see second version with propper steam dome, valve gear & reverser (for applying pressure to both upward and downward stroke of piston and changing direction of rotation). Don't forget throttle bar like in real steam locos too! Subed up!
light weight tools e.g. an old jigsaw, small generator, small water pump. They used them during ww2 for radio power and you can use anything that burns as fuel.
Tks bro I am from Sri Lanka I got many tips of simple solutions for pneumatic handling. Nice craftsmanship. Waiting for ur next clear precentation. We will get together & make this power greedy world into a peaceful planet
Just a question. Wouldn't you get better efficiency if you attached the pivot point of the piston cylinder with a bearing so there's less friction as it pivots up and down? Awesome machine.
Probably not, because it does not move that fast, wear is very minimal, and the crank stroke is using its leverage against the stationary pivot. Could probably use a bearing on the flywheel side where it attaches to the connecting rod.
I wudnt be surprised if the amount of force this small steam engine makes is enuf to run a push mower, not using electrical parts to convert the force to energy to electricity and then using a electric motor back to a force, but rather the drive shaft or watever it’s called be directly connected to the parts that make the blade move. And with how small it is it wud be more efficient with that small size.
Always a pleasure to see the spirit of Craftsmanship so well executed. Classic KISS mechanical engineering. Larger scale versions of this will make an excellent supplementary power source for electricity (when using the fireplace, fire pit, wood burning pizza oven...) in colder months out on the farm 😁
Oscillating steam engines have plenty of issues of their own to contend with! The main advantage is a compact form factor for a low center of gravity -- ideal for boats. If you wanted to go through the effort to make a larger version, there's no reason I can see to avoid a traditional crosshead and valving.
yes a fresnel lense would be ideal, in an observatory made like setup dat aling itself to the sun using its own energy, u could even couple this to a farm bot dat you print yourself the pieces with a 3d printer, the vegetal recognition systems and all is in open share alrdy. this could lead people autonomy on clean energy and food, you only will only need the particles for the 3d printer, which can print pieces for alot of people.
Its good that you put a safety valve on top, but i must reccomend you put a sight glass on the boiler. It will allow you to know how much water is inside the boiler, thus preventing the thing from exploding.
Ive got an idea for you :) i used my steam engine ive built during my apprenticeship to power a shashlik grill, works quite nicely and is a great conversation starter at partys!
Honestly the fact these were around before real engines when I'd say these were much harder dangerous but essentially were the backbone of the world's goods trains even ships
