Just purchased the M2 Pro 12 core with 32GB RAM & 1TB SSD. I'm so psyched to edit on this machine. I have been using my Late 2012 iMac i7 Intel for 9 years now and I'm soooooo looking forward to more power and smooth sailing across my 4k footage.

Beware: The 4 USB C connections come only with the M2 Pro Models. The regular M2 has only 2 of them.
Unfortunately the Mac Mini does NOT come in Space Grey anymore :/

@@MrSolidair Kindly check your facts properly before criticizing anyone. In the apple website it was showing both "Space Grey" and "Sliver" when it was newly launched. But currently it is only showing "Silver". I ordered "Space Grey" Mac mini M2 at the time of launch from apple website. It is still not delivered to my home.

@@MrSolidair It showed "space gray" in apple india website when i purchased M2 mac mini. As i said i already ordered "space grey". But when i see the order status , it is showing "silver". I contacted customer care for it and asked them , they said some update problems in the website & apologised me for that.
The day after M2 mac released, apple india website was down for 2 hours.
I only shared what i experienced. It confused me also as i have ordered "space grey" and later came to know "Space grey" was only there for intel mini.

I just picked an open box one up for $399 on Ebay. Paired with a 27" Acer monitor and Magic mouse and keyboard. Basically, I'm into the entire system for under $700. And it does everything I need done.
Great video! However until we get a look inside, we have to assume they used 1 256GB NAND SSD which impacted performance on the MacBook Air and 13” MacBook Pro with m2. People were recommending 512GB upgrades because that reverts it back to 2 NAND chips.
Already tear down videos on YT. 256GB is one die ... so 512GB is the only choice (or more).
If you get the base storage, your storage access will be slower. The 512gig will give you twice the performance with two SSD chips VS one with the base 256gig. So well worth the money for the extra storage.

Benchmark the SSD and open it up to see if its dual NAND flash. Lot's of people are itching to know if its OK to buy the 256GB version.
if blkmagic disk speed read/write test app shows me over 700 MB/s... on an external usb-c / tb m.2 enclosure, im good... apparently the new M2 ultra Mac Pro can take PCIE Gen 4 m.2 cards with 26,000 MB/s speeds...
Great video! I do have a question about your M2 recommendation. Your recommendation was exactly the same as mine with my M2 Mac Mini video but my question is do you know if the base 256 GB storage version is going to be plagued by the same performance issues like the M2 Air since it has a single NAND chip?

Great video, I'm upgrading from aa 2012 I7 mini and prefer to spend a little more upfront to maximized longevity. I can get education pricing and I am not a power user but I like the "decade upgrade cycle". Do you think it is worth going for the base M2 Pro or just upgrading the regular M2 to 16Gb of ram and the SSD to 512? Thank you!
I ordered just M2 with 16GB RAM. Storage can be always be upgraded via external SSDs.

If you are spending already over $1200 why not the Max Pro Chip which comes with more CPU & GPU cores - and the 16 GB of unified Memory which you choose ?

Thanks. Sure Magic Mouse design is stupid but swiping works well in all 4 directions, also gestures. How much do you loose with the Logitech mouse?
I use logitech and it still has both scrolls. Using MacMouseFix for the scroll smoothness

Do you need Apple Keyboard and mouse for the first time installation?
I'm from India... needed a machine for video editing (vlogs). But my budget is around 1,000 USD and at that price I was only getting the base Macbook air M1. But since apple released this Mac mini, I think I'm going with this instead. I'll buy a monitor (great quality monitors are available at very reasonable prices nowadays) which will cost me roughly around 100 dollars and I already have a mouse and a keyboard. Even if I get a new one it'll cost only about 20 dollars. So this whole setup will cost me around 850 dollars approx. Apart from getting a much powerful machine compared to the m1 macbook air, I also get a big monitor (24 inches at least) which is great for video editing. Laptop screens are way too small.
P.S.: apple products are costly here in India

I ordered the same spec. I mostly do Graphic Design work - Ai, PSD, XD, and Indesign. Currently using the M1 base model and the 8GB does get bottlenecked when using 2 -3 Apps and websites with multiple tabs on. Looking forward to this upgraded Mac Mini.

Personally I think the mouse is 20th century technology, just as the abacus is 12th century technology, and the slate is 3,000BC technology. For me the trackpad is the only way to go.
Agree. I'm right handed, but ten years ago I couldn't use my right arm and hand for eight months, so I learned to use the Magic Mouse with my left hand and have been doing it ever since. I want a mouse I can use with either hand...just in case. You have to get what's right for you.

Please don't get 8GB. always get 16GB. I own an 8GB mac mini m1, which is insufficient for multitasking.

There is no space gray model on the apple website.
I work in IT and have always kind of strayed away from Apple, but I just recently sold the computer I do all of my gaming and work on when I'm home and bought this. Although it's not good for say virtualization, I have a server running VM's that I remote into and it's almost like I never left Windows or Linux. Not to mention for such a small footprint this thing really does kick the ass of almost anything out there unless it's the top gaming computers.
The baseline M2 Mac Mini with 8GB RAM is actually a downgrade vs the M1 Mac Mini baseline counterpart with 8GB RAM. It is because the former comes with Ventura which uses more memory compared to Monterey, 8 GB is no longer sufficient for Ventura as it will use swap storage all the time.
I have the baseline M1 that I will maintain using Monterey only, will never upgrade to Ventura.

What about the fan? Works like in mini M1 (only on heavy load) or like in Studio (non-stop)?
I saw another review that said even with all the cores running, they could not hear the fan.
@@themikemurdoch I switched from the mac mini m1 to a Studio M1 Max. After years of complete silence the Studio was surprisingly disappointing in this matter. They were saying that M2 works with higher temperatures, so I really don't understand why Studio runs 1300 rpm's for all the time...

The base model of all M2 Macs only has a 256 Gb none upgradable SSD. Not only is this too little but more importantly selecting this configuration will result in a slow system. This is because in all 256 Gb M2 Macs there is only one and not two Flash memory modules soldered onto its motherboard. This halves the rate of data transfer to the SSD by comparison with any entry level M1 Mac. I would like to beg all purchasers of any M2 Mac to pay an extra $200 for a 512 Gb SSD to create a balanced fast system.
I'm a windows users here planning to get my first mac. I'm thinking of getting the regular M2 24Gb unified memory with 512 storage. I only use photoshop, lightroom, indesign, blender and davinci resolve for light editing and the games I play is not processor-intensive. I'm not a tech person, so in your opinion will my desired specs good enough?

Yes, you get same functionality but 2x cheaper. You only need to get a screen and keyboard/mouse. But as long as you don’t go for expensive Apple screens, you can get a nice Dell for 100€ and a keyboard + mouse set for 40€, which is pretty affordable in my opinion

I know the 512gb has an extra chip, but 512gb isnt nearly enough for what I want, so I have to use an external SSD regardless. Sure I could go for the 1 or even 2tb, but that totally defeats the point of if being cheap for it’s value.

I can not for the life of me set up the Apple mouse to this new Mac mini m2 ? There is 2 of us and we can’t even find a video explaining how to, it is a blue tooth mouse and we have been using it for 10 years now ? No luck at all.! So we can’t even set up the Mac mini
