My father was Aaron Edwards, who was also a newsman at KSFO at this time. On the day this was recorded, Dad had taken time off work in order to volunteer as a chaperone on the Japan Tour of the California Youth Symphony at this time.....so Dad is (sadly) not heard doing the news in this recording. I was 13 years old and a new horn player in the orchestra. My sister played violin and our mother was also a chaperone, Selma Edwards. This was the first international concert tour by an American youth orchestra. This was Carter B. Smith's opportunity to shine.

Your dad was one of the nicest person I've known in my life. I listened to him for years when he was at ksfo, and worked with him during a time during his later career as a reporter at kgo-tv.

VERY COOL 😎 A crystal clear radio broadcast from mid-1963. I really like hearing "Come Blow Your Horn" & "Tangerine" I bet it was a cool time to live in!!

Does anyone know if Van Amburg was doing mornings yet on KFRC? I don't know when he started, but he was morning man there in 1964. And no, Dr. Don Rose didn't start until the Fall of '73.

KSFO was regarded as "The World's Greatest Radio Station" during it's heyday. Their top DJ Don Sherwood had no real competition until 1973 when Dr Don Rose came to KFRC.

Except that Sherwood and Rose didn't compete as Sherwood left KSFO in 1969, replaced by Terry McGovern then Gene Nelson. Dr. Don Rose didn't start at KFRC until October 1973. If they ever competed, it wouldn't be until 1975, when Don went back to KSFO as PD. I think he retook the morning show and moved Nelson to PM drive.

What a delightful aircheck. I can see why KFRC was getting their asses handed to them. And what's ironic about all this is that KFRC was diplexing off KSFO's tower at the time.

Only $13.50 to fly from SF to LA? That costs $200 these days. I remember paying $29 in 1974. I grew up in San Francisco in the 60s listening to KFSO on my transistor radio. It was a wonderful station in that era. Now all they do is bash liberals.

And $19.85 to San Diego. You couldn't buy a pair of Adidas and walk there for less!
