I started listening to KEWB in 1961, when I first moved from LA to SF ... transistor radio in bedroom ... a VERY different world!

I don’t think I’ll ever find the station my grandmother listened to, possibly this, but they played Frank Sinatra, many old school (and I mean old! Like 80 years old now at least) singers and bands and just want to hear them since I have been missing my grandmother for so long and it makes me think of our long drives from the peninsula to the Marin county. If you know how long it is think of that trip through gridlock traffic… my grandmother was a saint for preparing dinner, taking care of me, and then driving us out to Marin to take care of my grandpa even though he was drunk half the time and didn’t care… he was drunk watching wheel of fortune by the time we got there but she did her duty even after she divorced him. She loved caring for people and I loved the ride and I loved hearing the radio once it cut through to Marin and I got to hear Frank Sinatra basically every time she went through the tunnel. I will always love my Omi, her unconditional love goes through my body and her love for oldies always makes me happy.

The audio quality sounds fantastic! This must have been recorded in KEWB's studio. There's no way someone recorded this from an AM radio.

Can you explain a little more of what you mean by that statement?

My 2 transistor radio wouldn't pick up KEWB from Sunnyvale. So, around 1963, we went to PayLess and upgraded to an 8 transistor just to get it. "More" was my absolute favorite then and still love it.

"More" by Kai Winding. My favorite then and all time favorite to this day.

You suffered from the start with a measly 2-transistor? ROTFL! Most kids/tweens my age then started by '59-'60 with a good 6-transistor, and soon after '63, we got 8-transistors. They still sold 2-transistors in '63? BTW, the better instrumental that year (and there were some good ones, including "More") was "Our Winter Love" (#9 pop, #4 Easy Listening, #20 R&B; Mar. 1963) by Bill Pursell.

Bay Area Top 40 radio BEFORE KFRC. They were still trying to compete with KSFO.

On this day, 30 years later, I got married and live in the East Bay! The A’s were in Kansas City and referring to the American League as the “junior league” is hilarious. Thanks for the boss, groovy post Dave!

How come these old radio broadcasts sound better then today's c-rap music?

David Von Pein's JFK Channel Hey David. I was 7 years old but remember these days like yesterday. I so long for these days and the feel good innocence they had. Definitely the era of JFK and the innocence of the youth and Camelot. This was the final days of this feel and innocence in America. 64 was transitional.

@@DavidVonPeinJFK Damn right! ANYTHING (even '30s-40s Big Band swing music, or classical music pieces) were far better than rap-crap over the past 30+ years since 1990!

Mays hit that homer in the 5th inning.Funny how the Liston-Paterson fights were called fiascos,a term that could be better applied to Liston's next two fights.
