    This is crazy true
    I don't go certain places because I get scared how I will react I avoid crowded places because of the fear of not being able to get out

      It's not the place. Its how you feel in that place. This is a pretty important but often overlooked concept. It gives you a target to aim for. Getting better at feeling those feelings and handling it rather than trying to "learn how to go to the supermarket" (for example).

      I have had this battle since age 11-12 in 1975. I’m now 60 and have yet to cope normally although I have learned more about my disorder it’s destroyed my life. I continue to struggle through this battle because I’d love to live a happy fear free life before I die.

    I developed anticipatory anxiety over my 6-year-old car. Over the last two and a half years or so, I have spent about two grand fixing issues with my car. Most of the repairs are general maintenance type. This has led to anticipatory anxiety about something going wrong with my car even though there's nothing wrong with my car. Any little thing that is really nothing flares up my anxiety.

    This is me every day
    I drive long distances everyday for work, I have no choice and I deal with anticipatory anxiety every morning, I can write forever about this but I’ve been watching you long enough to know you’ve been through the same thing so you know

      Omg same here, I too have no choice driving out of town for work every wk, been doing it for 11 yrs and it still dam near kills me every time, all those “what if” thoughts. And it doesn’t help that I hate that job and dislike the ppl I work with but the money is good so I stay. It feels like hitting a brick wall after a brick wall dealing with GAD and agoraphobia. Sorry :(

      One thing I wound up doing without knowing I had to do it was to work in the "getting ready" part. Before I got better at driving away in an anxious state, I got better at getting dressed, and getting ready to get in the car while in an anxious state. Not sure if that helps at all.

    When I’m not overwhelmed with anxiety over the mere thought of going out because the anxiety gives me myriad physical symptoms that make it difficult to get dressed and ready to go out, because I’m anxious about having a panic attack while I’m out.
    How did THIS end up being My Life?!?!!

      You are describing a textbook case how how feeling anxious + trying desperately to avoid that feeling leads to things like panic disorder and agoraphobia. This podcast episode explains more:

    I am so grateful that you're talking about this and it's like you're talking directly to me. I feel as though I will have a panic attack all day and night, every day and night. My entire body shakes and if I can force out any words at all, the words come out like I'm shivering in the cold. Even my voice shakes! The tremors in my head and face, among other horrific things, attribute to my constant state of total discomfort. My doctor prescribed Alprazolam 2x daily and it helps a significant amount, but I still have panic attacks every day and am in such discomfort that I can't sleep, can't even sit down and relax and read a book anymore. What is wrong with me? Am i always going to be like this?

      You will find that the content I create addresses being afraid of being afraid. The fear of fear. The condition where the fact that you are anxious and experiencing anxiety symptoms and anxious thoughts, and that becomes the reason for even more anxiety. "What's wrong with me?" is a big question that nobody on the Internet that does not know you should ever answer because ... well ... we don't know you. Start with the first 15 episodes or so of my podcast (they're all here on my channel) to see if my description of anxiety disorders resonates with you . Or start with the first episodes of Disordered - the new podcast I do with Josh Fletcher (disordered.fm). These resources might prove helpful for you. xx

    Yes, I don’t trust how my body will react ….

    • @TheAnxiousTruth
      @TheAnxiousTruth  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's the doubt that runs through almost everyone's experience. Doubting that your body can handle it. Doubting that your mind can handle it. Doubting that you will be OK. It really throws a monkey wrench into the system for sure. Unfortunately the only way out of that doubt is through it, which is hard work.

    This is 100% me! I panic about panicking! Mine is travelling and being in situations that I can't get out of (traffic/aeroplane etc) I don't know why I want to be able to get out, I just do! I have been like this about 30+ years. I don't know how to be any different. It's really affecting my relationship as my partner loves travelling. I want to fix this for myself and him and us. I have been advised/had therapy for desensitisation, which makes sense but I can't go try n go on holiday/take a trip 4-5 times a week to desensitise! PLEASE help me 😢 xx

    • @TheAnxiousTruth
      @TheAnxiousTruth  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I would venture to guess that your life is full of avoidance of ANY situation that might "trigger" your panic. It's not just big things like going on holiday or traveling. You don't have to practice going on vacation 4X per week. But if you are essentially avoiding your triggers every day and then hoping to find a way to travel and do big things, you will wind up frustrated and feeling like your therapy "doesn't work". Want to go on holiday with your partner? Start by working on the smallest avoidances and go from there. It really matters. xx
