      I am scared of heights, to be alone, i am dyslexic and it does allow me to be confident of my writting...

    I hate agoraphobia when I go take a walk and realize how far I'm from my house I start to panic and wondering if I could make it safe back to my house without passing out

    Does anyone freak out when it’s hot outside? I feel really scared, faint, dizzy and in danger in summer. I feel like no one else really experiences this :(

      Julie S yes!!! Huge for me ... heat sensitivity... I’ve been working with a homeopath and seen some progress ... I’m in the winter months now ... but will get a better idea in the summer

      Omg same! I was just telling my partner that I hate summer because I feel more exposed. Sweaty and just uncomfortable. I only go out with my partner most times and people are usually nice, but I’m by myself I kinda feel like people would harm me emotionally or even physically. I attempted to start running over the past 2 weeks and it has been difficult. I’m too afro mad to go for a 2-3 mile run from home.

      The Anxiety Guy I want you to know that I’m winning I’m actually staying 30 minutes away from my house right now!!! I’ve been making myself go for drives and whenever I feel the urge to speed home I pull over and park the car and make myself sit there. Also a lot of help from God

    I had agoraphobia from aged 21-32 and it was as bad as you can get..Pretty much housebound apart from going to work...But even bus rides, being a passenger in a car etc would induce panic. Like many I lost friends, felt hopeless and lost...Everything most people enjoy, such as movies, dinner out, shopping, socializing etc etc was as much fun as going to the dentist to get a root canal. ( And thats another story when you have agoraphobia ). So I went to psychotherapists, hypnotherapists etc and nothing worked. I felt they could never understand what we go through unless they had themselves, and they hadn't. So I told myself my brain gave me this, and only I can cure myself. I took back the power for a start. I also decided to not go down the medication route to cope.
    Long story short...I 'decided' to reframe my thoughts....Instead of fearing fear ( thus avoiding panic inducing scenarios which in my case was almost everything ) I decided to alter my thinking and actually look forward to feeling fear and panic...Yep, by doing so it took away its power...little by little...Think of it like this...Youre scared of the thought of parachuting but you face the fear and do it anyway...As scared as you are, you make the decision to jump...and then you do it again and again and again...and little by little youre no longer scared...you might even start to look forward to it. You would never get to that point of enjoying it if you never made the first jump due to letting fear have power over you. It takes huge courage but it was a matter of taking baby steps and maybe picking one thing to work on...

      dont stay like that, get angry and defeated it ... thats how im doing it i didnt get out of my home for 4 months now im going out more having dinners with friends going to the shop etc etc.. sorry for my english is not my native language ... i did it many others have done it and you can do it too .. face your fears or watch your limits

      @Robin Tiefel more "comfortable" is a harsh truth. Being afraid to face your greatest fear is truly hard to do and after years you're not only trying to fight the fear but now also trying to break a bad habit of returning to your safe place when you got scared. Add PTSD and OCD into the mix and it's one hell of a fight.

    I feel like I lost a lot of my life. I been stuck in my house for months. It’s hard for me to go out just to go to the store or take out the trash. I can’t even be consistent with keeping a job. My life is so small

      Omg, I hate taking the trash out too cuz that's where the hobos hide.....and I'm scared of the hobos 😶 ......I'm worried I'll accidentally throw trash on one and they'll jump out and hurt me.....and then I'll never leave my house again.....and my S/O says I'm "silly and need to get a grip just go when they're not there"...... but I hate going out in the daylight because people can see me then o.o and I'm ugly.....

    IVE BEEN HAVING ANXIETY PANIC FOR 4:5 MONTHS !
    It use to be everyday anxiety and panic
    NOW I GET 1-2 a week !!!
    I’m not fully healed yet !!!
    But
    GLORY TO GOD AND SEEKING HIS WORD AND WORSHIPING FASTING ETC !!!
    MAYBE CAN HELP OTHERS
    REMEMBER GOD IS BIGGER THAN ALL OUT PROBLEMS

    I've been agoraphobic for about 20 years, it's a tough habit to break. I can't shop or drive on my own. To do this in company is taking all the energy I have. I've had better periods, but now I've been getting real bad panic attacks again. I must believe I can and will get better. I have all the tools I need, but my fear of throwing up, getting an asthma attack or a bad case of heart arrhythmia's is really strong for this moment. I hope to look on this comment in a certain amount of time from a much better place.

      Fabienne G. I know how you feel! My mother and little sister passed away in a car accident when I was 19, I'm 22 now. I developed agoraphobia shortly after! I very rarely leave my house, and when I do I can't be alone. I have a rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, blurry/dizzy vision, I have hot flashes, and feel like I need to use the restroom very intensely. It is very difficult to break this habit of staying in my comfort zone, but It must be done. Best of luck to you with your struggles, I hope you wake up one day and everything is better for you!

      Fabienne G. Omg! I have a fear of throwing up too! It's so intense. I've thrown up twice in my life time. Once in kindergarten & in 2nd grade. I haven't thrown up since then (I'm 21 years old) but I'm scared everyday day that it "could" happen"
      Even though it's tough dealing with this, im glad I'm not the only who feels this

      I understand, I'm emetophobic as well. I think I threw up somewhere around 6y old and the second time was last year at 40 after a procedure, they gave me food too soon after the anesthesia. It didn't hurt, I didn't gag, it just felt like hick-ups, so all in all it was no where near anything I imagined it would be. Still fearful it would happen in public though. But we make it this giant monster and it really isn't.

    you know dennis, youre the man. i was scared of going outside my home because i was scared of fainting in the public (and it would be labeled as shameful experience in my brain). but guess what? i watched justice league in my local theatre 5 days ago! and even yesterday i watched it again with my brother (because he hasnt seen it yet lol). oh my god im soooo happy that i can do this again. i know im still experiencing some dizziness, a little bit acid reflux, cold feet, and muscle tension but i managed to stay in my seat and faced my symptoms then i let it just flow. im still learning and im happy it shows some big progress.

      Shehryar Tabani it was because i got gastritis a long time ago and i thought gastritis is a dangerous illness even though my doctor said its not dangerous. He said its because im stressed for a long time. I didnt believe what he said and still thought that im not stressed, but i got this gastritis because of something else. And i had these 2 core beliefs related to it. Fist, a sick person shouldnt go outside until hes 100% healthy, second my mother died because of acid reflux so im gonna die like her. That’s why i was anxious and afraid to go outside, afraid of fainting and dying outside my comfort zone.
      Note: acid reflux can’t kill anyone

    My agoraphobia affects my bowels. Any travelling, buses, cars,taxis etc make me have an uncontrollable urge to poop thar I can't stop. I have had numerous accidents that is humiliating and reinforces the fear. My world is getting smaller and smaller that even a walk to local shop can trigger me off

    Try 40 years. I have taken the drugs. I have done intense therapy. I have done tapping. Have done hypnosis. I have 2 very good and comprehensive audio programs. I have one bookcase with books and workbooks--all books read and workbooks worked. Best I can do is I go grocery shopping twice a month and can get to my doctor appointments. God help me if I have to go out for some kind of testing. I can go on and on but I stay the same. I am happy you were able to overcome yours. Wish I could say the same.

      @danielle d. w. Agoraphobia is most often nothing to do with open spaces, it's commonly public places. It is common to develop after people start having panic attacks, as agoraphobia is the fear of panicking in many cases. It can be caused by trauma, even physical trauma. Sometimes a smell or sound can trigger it and people don't realise. That is why the first point of call is CBT with a therapist to get to the why. Then it's working through that to lessen the fear and that's generally how panic and agoraphobia are overcome. The catch is, it needs to be treated early (in the first couple of years, preferably first 12mths). If it's not, the brain starts to think panic is the normal response and so it rewires itself to panic in response to normal situations. This can cause it to be permanent.

    I'm fifteen, I've had this bs fear since I was 12. I can't go to movies, the mall, or even to the coffee shop down the block with my friends. I'm starting to feel like I am the only one stuck like this and I don't want to be stuck alone.

      Oh god there's a people with the same problem as me.I used to hanging out everywhere like normal person,but when some bad stuff happened im kind of scared to go outside for longer or going far from my apartment.And the worst thing is the heart palpitations.

      Hi Enzo it did help and was informative but most cases of Agoraphobia is due to trauma and not so clear cut as this and When I hear I was in the house 31 days it doesn't constitute Agoraphobia, the start of it yes and it was tackled quickly but as someone that has been totally Agoraphobic for coming on ten years I cant really relate and the majority of people with Agoraphobia have Panic Disorder. I like the Sole water Idea but there is a lot of missing aspects in this video. Depression and Anxiety are two separate things!!!! This is something that would of helped me in my early stages and will now to a degree but severe Agoraphobia I believe it needs to be more in depth. He said his depression but calls himself the anxiety guy. Anxiety is more physical than depression with Panic attacks, Depersonalization, claustrophobia etc...... I'm glad I watched this all in all but all I can think is 31 days :/

      MsDearne Yes, 31 days seems like the beginning of agoraphobia, but was tackled right away thank God. When we think of years of agoraphobia, panic attacks, GAD, depression, insomnia, PTSD and Social Phobia....... makes it kinda frightening and sad. Wish there was something that truly helped. Still I really do appreciate his videos and happy he overcame all his anxiety problems. God bless you all and hopefully one day someone will find the cure for this horrible mental illness.

    i’ve been stuck in my house for over two years leaving my home is terrifying just to go to the doctors. I have a severe panic attack to where my blood pressure goes up dangerously high. I can roam around my front yard check the mail roam roam around my backyard. Just can’t leave my property can’t get in a car without a panic attack. It’s terrifying and frustrating. Can’t go to church anymore. I’m housebound and I dislike it a lot I feel like a lost cause.

    I’m 17 with a dream of being in the military. Haven’t been able to leave the house except for 2 times since September 2019. I quit smoking weed and using nicotine. I’m on 2 meds and I am quitting caffeine. I got better, but now I’m just on a straight line instead of one going up. I experience severe nausea and a fear of throwing up when I try to leave the house. I can walk my dog every now and then, but not far

    Funny you this, I have lived through agoraphobia for 20 years now. My girlfriend doesnt even understand. She just thinks I'm lazy. Shit I wish I was just lazy! Wouldnt that be the life? At least I wouldnt have fear of everything. Oh well it is what it is.

    I might add....And this is just my thoughts....Personally, after having Agoraphobia for 10+ years, with no professional I engaged able to 'cure' me, I believe that you can learn to cope and manage it...... I can function 98% better now than I could back in that period of my life....but I feel its a bit like being an alcoholic, its with you for life. You have to manage it...I still get tested by my brain every now and then..But I now have the will to push through it and not flee/take flight. When I cope like that, it loses power and subsides for the most part. I got to the point where being invited to dinner didnt invoke feelings of panic...going to malls, the hairdresser, work meetings, the supermarket etc were all panic free. A few years ago, after getting some bad news medically, I started to get panic attacks in the supermarket again. It took all my mental power to stand upright as I felt like I was going to faint....But rather than take the easy route and avoid the supermarket ( and the panic) I went back every day....I faced it...it lost ..and I dont even think about it when I go to the supermarket these days....The old me would have added that to the list of things to avoid.

    I’ve only been suffering with symptoms for about 2 months and it’s slowly been getting worse, to the point of the thought of going outside I start having heart palpitations. I currently had to go home after going shopping with my parents we had only been out for 15 minutes. I’m currently sitting in my room in absolute tears!!       @@narendergera9312 so it took me about 6ish months, I ended up doing CBT, my DR referred me for online CBT and it changed my life honestly. I found out my anxiety stemmed around the thought of being trapped somewhere and I can’t get out, which then led to the agoraphobia. Once in a while I will randomly get heart palpitations for no apparent reason however I’m able to talk my self out of it. I was in nursing school at the time and was ready to quit however I didn’t and now a Qualified nurse who has to do loads of anxiety provoking things and actually find myself wondering why am I not feeling anxious.

    Anyone looking for answers and reasons why this is happening you’re not alone, as you tell by the comments a lot of people in the world deal with this, that does make it easier but it should put some ease on your mental. This is a normal thing for certain people. I’m currently struggling and have been for years and at time things get easier and at times they’re harder. Remember this YOU will wake up tomorrow ,YOU will survive this, and YOU are loved. I promise we’re all gonna make it, have faith and be kind to yourself and others.

    Yesterday I went camping on the other side of my state with friends. I felt very anxious about it but my friends supported me. I got through it. Even though I am proud that I went, I have been feeling defeated because I feel like I embarrassed myself wanting to go home. But then I remembered that it used to feel impossible to walk around the block. I was afraid to go back to school during covid. And I would never put myself in a situation I couldn’t get out of. And look how far I’ve come! Going 5 hours from home without any of my family Sleeping in the forest. I love this video. I did exactly what he said, I took babysteps. Even if it means just looking outside for a few seconds. Strive to go further or for longer. One baby step at a time. And get support.
    I am currently working on getting over this by driving further from my house and staying out for longer. My goal is to fly to see my family in Mexico. It seems so scary sometimes but I WILL DO IT!

    Mine is not just being in public. Mine is I just can’t leave my home. The fear is so bad that when I know I have to leave to go to Dr I can’t stay out of the bathroom. It triggers my IBS big time and I have panic attacks. Thank you for this video

    I have suffered with agoraphobia and anticipational anxiety for coming up 20 years now, it could be months in-between leaving the house in the worst days. It got to the point where I only went to work ((4 hours a day) and dentist/doctors.. then even those stopped as I couldnt handle it. Over four years of emotional and mental truama that I have to suffer daily again just to get to work and it never went.... I have missed out on so much of my life, that is what I hate.
    So I am about to hit 41 and I am making a renewed effort! I have managed to CURE my Generalised Anxiety Disorder and chronic pain that came with it, then I CURED my depression and got back my want and interest in living again. I remade myself and realised I was more than suffering incarnate.
    These things CAN be cured.. and I am setting out to PROVE it with agoraphobia next!
    I am an NLP Master Practitioner and Hypnotherapist, I became them simply to help myself through this and I have still have found it tough.
    My hats off to all those going through this also.

    I have agoraphobia mainly in open spaces, traveling, and especially walking away from my house. I just feel so uncomfortable and don't feel safe. I hate having this fear because I used to run around and travel places all the time :(

    I am so glad I found this video. This was exactly what I need to hear and I needed a clear path for going forward. I miss all the activities I used to do before my panic disorder developed. And this week I fed my anxiety by not exposing myself because I had a horrible panic attack last week. I am not my fear though, I will feel excited and curious again. I like this idea of a ladder to gradually expose myself and teach myself that everything is okay. Thank you so much for this video. I cried because I felt so understood. Thank you.

    I overcame agorafobia after having it for 5 years. I could go everywhere, had no panic or fear anymore. Life was so wonderful! Then one day there was the panic again and my world got smaller and smaller again. Its now 2 years that i have agoriafobia back again. Im so dizzy all the time! When i go outside i lose touch with the world, being so afraid that something terrible is going to happen. I understand that nothing will happen, but when im outside my mind takes over and says okay! Now you are going to faint and damn...there i go again. Running so fast to go back in my house. Dennis, really love you! Thank you for being there for us. I know we all can do this!!!!

    I haven’t been able to leave for 6 months. I feel lost and confused in the world. I feel like I’m going to loose control. I’m scared, i literally lay at night and think about the world. I’m on medicine but it’s not working, I’ve tried a million types of medicine. But nothing seems to help. The fear is unreal, I even dream about being away from my home. And it wakes me up. I’m scared now that I’m not going to be comfortable around people that make me comfortable. I really want to give up some days. I just really don’t know where to go from here.

    I suffered for years. Around 17, too be exact. I’m at the point where I get anxious, but never really “panic” anymore. I used slow exposure. It’s was hard, but I’m still not done. I haven’t “gone back to work “, I still get disability from ca. I also take meds. Same ones for like 15 years. But now, I still can’t really drive and go places alone. I’ve taken lifts and what not, but I’m still a little anxious at first. As soon as I say hi, I’m good. It’s simply feeling safe due to another human being near. Where do I go from here? I’m kinda stuck....very stuck. I’m almost there, people. You just have to fight harder than the fear, get angry with it, at it! Every step is a battle won! You all sound like beautiful people, you can do this! I recommend a book titled “Don’t Panic”. HMU if you need the author.

    It’s to the point where I’m so anxious I can even focus on this video. It’s extremely difficult. I’m currently in a hotel room trying to talk myself up to where I can check out and the thought of catching a taxi home is unbearable. The main thing is I’m scared of my IBS from my anxiety. I have severe allergies to soy and a barista 6-7 years ago gave me soy when I asked for almond milk. I ended up having diarrhoea in the street and I was wearing a skirt… it was also on a first date. It has completely traumatised me. My family already had a history of agoraphobia (mum, grandma, great-grandma). I used to go out heaps, now I have to push myself to stay at a hotel 20mins from my house as exposure. Covid + lockdown was a selfish blessing to me because I didn’t have to leave the house. For 6 months I didn’t even leave my porch. I do not respond well to therapy at all. The first time I tried my therapist told me she wouldn’t help me because I’m was a sex worker. I’m completely done. I’ve tried to commit suicide 7 times. I’m tired.

    I don't know the Why. I don't know why to live anymore.. Tried hard and am always at the bottom once again. Was doing really really well in life and regained myself for about 2 years. But once I started doing a job, I fell back so far that my brain doesnot even entertain the positive outset in life anymore because deep down inside I know that I can't be like normal people because there is no ambition in my life. I am so fearful to even end it. I really really felt I was over this not long ago. I started studying once more and was doing really really well. I'm really starting to believe that I am fundamentally flawed and that I cannot do anything worth the life anymore. I have finally tipped towards 'Yes, I want to die now' side of the scale for the first time in my life. I've been depressed 12 years and was always a fighter but I am so so tired of all this, I just can't go on living like this anymore. Tried everything from meditation, yoga, physical gym exercise but if you're missing the 'WHY', I guess there is just no point of carrying on. I am firmly starting to believe that I am about to die and don't care about life anymore. About to end my undergrad study and am started to get Terrorized inside about every little things.

    I am 26 years old and I have had this disorder my entire life. As a really little kid I had no idea what it was until I got older and was diagnosed with it and put on disability. But I have the same problems as most of you and I didn't think there were other people who had problems with walking, Slurred speech, Vision issues and feeling dizzy and nauseous as I do. So usually when it happens I have to sleep it off and I have no control over my body and even have trouble typing or even picking up a drink or anything else when it occurs. I dropped out of high school at 16 because of it and lost 2 jobs because of it and never really leave my house. and now I am at a point in my life where I am wondering what the hell do I do from here? I've gone to so many doctors and all they tell me is to get therapy.

      This doesn't sound like agoraphobia. Some of those symptoms can be caused by mild stroke or visual migraines. You should keep seeking medical intervention to get a proper diagnosis.

    I’m struggling with this , have been since Covid started not because of Covid but because of another traumatic experience, I just can’t feel safe around people again, or not knowing the outcome of being in public. It’s silly, but the feeling alone of not having walls around me but a big open space filled with strangers causes me to have full on panic attacks , sometimes things worse than that. I’m starting to slowly get better but it sucks, I’m 19 I want to be a college student again, have a job and friends, have a life. But it feels like my agoraphobia won’t let me, like I’m stuck in mud. Sorry for ranting, other than my therapist nobody else in my life really gets it, I just want to remember what it feels like to be safe again but now that I know I’m never truly safe it makes leaving my house terrifying.

    :( sounds so easy to do but when you try it a whole other ball game. Im a single mommy battling with agoraphobia.. it developed from being at work and suddenly out of nowhere feeling sick.. turns out i was having reccurent panick attacks.. doctors were confused as they were so bad my blood pressure would drop.. iv been home now for 3 weeks.. just fetching my boy from school around the corner is a challenge.. i have the drive to get out there and start living my life.. i understand its just panick and fear.. i know im gana be okay.. and yet here i am.. thanks for your videos.. statistics say 25 to 35 im 21 and battling with this.. but everyday i push to get through.. as my why is my little boy who needs a mommy to be okay

    If anyone's watching this, and terrified that they'll never surpass their anxiety conditions, you are not alone. I've dealt with having agoraphobia to the degree that I never left my house for four years. I still struggle, but not the same extreme as I had when it began. Please be patient with yourself, experiment, and experience. It takes small steps, and each one matters. Also, setbacks are common when it comes to recovery. The trick is to not be intimidated, or discouraged by them. You got this! Dennis, the Anxiety Guy knows well of what he's talking about.

      @@TheAnxietyGuy1 That was about 16 years ago. It did get better with a TON of hard work. Was able to live a normal life and have a family with just mild anxiety.
      Buuuut then the pandemic happened and we had to start staying home. I thought I’d be able to handle that with zero problems given my past. It didn’t hit me til last year when I wanted to start going out that I couldn’t leave again. Or drive. Or go to the doctor. I’m bedridden now with health issues, severe anxiety and depression and the agoraphobia is back for sure.
      I could probably still go outside in my yard though if I wanted to. That doesn’t make me feel anxious. Now it’s more a matter of my body being exhausted and my heart rate shooting above 130 just standing. 😅 I was at home and in bed so much…I have POTS now and deconditioning issues. Can’t do squat physically anymore.
      Agoraphobia in my late teens/20’s not nearly as bad as my 30’s that’s for sure. When you’re younger the body can handle being more sedentary. Not so much later on. 😬
      I wouldn’t say it’s the same as before. Different. Just as bad as those four years. But I got a good break in between I guess.

    I haven’t left the house in 6 months and my health is suffering because of it physically I’ve been avoiding the doctors/hospital for months because my anxiety and fear based of leaving the house and I’m terrified the only thing that will force me to take action is a severe event enough to override my feelings of anxiety and take precedence so too anyone suffering through this.     I’ve suffered from extreme agoraphobia for many years. I also have a severe anxiety disorder and due to these conditions i have only left my home about 5 times in the last 10 years and that’s only at night under the cover of darkness. I also suffer from paranoia which plays against my agoraphobia which makes it even worse. There seems to be no end.

      I hope you get better. I've struggled with it all on and off for nearly 15years. It's tiring. I thought I was strange preferring to go out in the dark. It's been comforting to read a lot of these comments , like we arent alone.

    I was doing really well about 6 months ago. I was getting out and putting all my fears just out of my mind. And then a boss at work (not actually my boss) went off and cussed me. I got so upset I ran to the bathroom totally having a panic attack. My boss apologized for the guy and told me I shouldn’t ever be talked to like that again. I needed up not going back to the job and have been stuck in my house since... so my biggest fear is those kind of things happening... and they will happen. But I’m not giving up. I’ve realized I shut down when something like that happens. It’s doesn’t help though so I’m trying to find coping skills to help me in those moments. If I felt comfortable enough to tell my boss maybe it would help... but there’s such a stigma. Keep speaking out about this.

    Propranolol helped me the best. I shouldn't have switched to Xanax (although now that helps me sleep). My doctor stopped prescribing the other when he switched to the Xanax. I try breathing exercises...they don't do a thing. I feel like I can hardly drive my car without having anxiety. I feel for anyone dealing with this....

    All of these comment are so comforting. We are not alone. All on our own journeys to conquer our own prisons our minds have built "to keep us safe "
    I've struggled with it for nearly 15years on and off. Each time a little worse than the last. I've decided to start taking ssri medication, I used too for 6years but stopped because I didn't want to take pills all my life, but feel I've no choice now . Onward and upwards. I hope and pray everyone can fight their demons and over come this debilitating mental situation. God bless xx one love ❤

      Unfortunately, this means you are doing something wrong. It is a great time to re-tool and get to the basics again. Simplify who you listen and take advise from (I would just stick with Dennis). Dennis has a lot of videos about how to train your amygdala. If you are doing something and feeling uncomfortable, that is when your amygdala is turned on and listening. It is vital to tell it correctly what to do, and give it a repeated history of success, over and over and over again. Doing nothing or retreating is not teaching it correctly. Again, Dennis has a lot of great videos on this. Best of luck !

    I've been on the waiting list for my agoraphobia for almost half a year. They think I show signs of PTSD which means I have to wait longer. I've been completely house bound for 3 years after being sexually assaulted and almost raped. After the event I was shaken but okay. I moved past it and managed for a year, but one day I seen the "man" who did it out in public and I've been scared to go out since. This is some deep rooted issue. But you can only imagine how depressing and empty my life feels to me on a day to day basis. I want to work and move out and start my life, but I can barely make it to the top of my street alone. One of my biggest issues is that whenever I have a panic attack it sets off my IBS, which would obviously be very embarrassing to set off in public, but now I panic every time I'm in public so avoid it wherever possible.

    I haven't been out of the house in like 3 months, I can't even go in my front yard without panicking, I get super dizzy, I feel like I'm going to pass out, I don't want this anymore, I want to be able to get a job and drive again

    I have not been 25 miles from my home in 17 years...will be 18 years in September 2018. I have degrees in Psychology....although I am happy for you that you managed 31 days...this doesn't hold a light to true agoraphobia.

    I started experiencing this phobia about nearly a month ago. It’s mainly crowded spaces anywhere that isn’t busy I don’t really mind. I managed to get out and go to town for 4hours I was anxious but I could still cope being outside. Taking the tram back home was difficult but a girl did small talk to me and she honestly just made my day. As I didn’t even notice the ride back home, before I realised it was my stop✨I am taking baby steps. Also I am planning to go to therapy as talking things out does help.
    I really do feel for those who have experienced it for years. My hearts goes out to you ❤️, it’s never to late for recovery. They are people out there who does understand your not alone xoxxx

    I basically haven’t left my house for the last 3 years besides a handful of occasions and times when I had to be taken to the hospital for severe panic attacks

    Thank you for this! I struggle agoraphobia when it comes to driving. I didn’t always have this fear of driving but there are many triggers that I have for it. Tomorrow I’m being asked to drive somewhere that takes me over a bridge and I’ll have kids and two other adults with me. Those are half of my triggers. Driving with other people in the car and bridges 😳😳 I sometimes get horrible anxiety and the thought of having a panic attack while driving ultimately gives me a panic attack. Which is dangerous to me. Which makes me more nervous lol. Uhhg! If anyone out there who struggles like this and specifically while driving please comment. I kind of feel alone in my fears because many people drive and don’t think too deep into this like I do.
    Also thank you for your advice! It actually really helped a lot!

      I remember not driving that day with everyone when we dropped them off at the airport. I did however drive back in their car by myself over the bridge. I was definitely nervous then and rushed over the bridge 😂
      Now I actually feel a lot more confident driving. I think the key is to drive in a safe and reliable car, and to keep pushing yourself a little to drive even when you're scared to.

    Today in the morning is the first time i am staying alone at a motel, driving 2 hours away and meeting friends and going for a skate after 2 years and i am freaking out really really really badly but imma push, push and push and i am slightly excited 😬🙏

      Fiona I have been there. Diet really helped me, dairy and gluten and msg and alcohol rendered me housebound for months. Reach out to people, anyone, and tell them how you are feeling and that you need companionship. It helps to just have someone next to you for even an hour. It took me months to finally go to the market without panic. With constant pushing and exposure therapy, the brain does eventually let you do what you want and need to do. Agoraphobia is a phase and a habit, it’s not who you are, I promise.

    I have been managing it and coping with it for the most part, at the time i was not able to go to work because it was a 30 minute drive from my house, I couldn’t walk my dog more then a block,i was so anxious at a red light, I can’t be in a building over 3 stories and looking down, i had a fear of going into an elevator, public transportation, its alot of things that we deal with having agoraphobia and most people will never understand no matter how much u explain it to them, doctors as well, if you dont have it and live with it, you simply can’t know how people like us feel on daily basis. For me, managing it unfortunately has to involve a bit of alcohol if i am going to extreme situations like 1 or 2 hours away from my house, sometimes when i drive to work on a highway, i get dizzy and feel my heart racing as if im going to pass out and thats like the worst feeling ever, i would take a few sips of a beer and it would disappear, its like my mind and body does a quick restart and dizziness and fast heart beat goes away, i tried with water and chamomile tea but its just not the same, being tipsy makes me feel normal and i feel like i can do anything, sober mind is the problem, i recently had a kid and I almost completely stopped drinking, having a purpose to keep going and fighting for something bigger than yourself helps alot. Stay strong to all dealing with this and know that you are not alone.

    For me I’ve started this around the beginning of 2020 from everyone spreading the fear of COVID and my puberty which effected my stomach to the point of traveling to far makes this build up of nausea unbearable sometimes.. but now I’ve practice with myself to go out more but not to far, just a comfortable length then try farther next time.     I been this way for 2 years, and it's been rough.
    constantly worrying is tiring. I would feel so dizzy at the store, walking down the aisles makes me feel like in a tunnel. The absence of existence kicks in and it all feels unreal. And the next day you can hardly remember what you bought at the store.

    First of all sorry for my bad English I hope you will understand.
    I have agoraphobia and I don't know what to do with myself...
    When I am at home I feel very well but as soon as I go outside everything becomes very blurry and I have huge problems with breathing.
    I barely can go to end of my street alone. With someone to assist me it's better but I literally can't be in huge shop mall more than 10 minutes because I am starting to have panic attacks.
    Because of this I don't have any friends in real life, I sit whole days chatting with people online because for me it's the only way to have contact with other people.
    I am trying to fight with this and trying to go outside but it's not helping much.
    Agoraphobia has ruined my life. I have a online friend and I want to meet her so bad but it's not possible when you have problems to go further than end of your street.
    I feel very sad and lonely.
    If any of you can advise me something please do, I would be thankful for everything that can help even a little.

    Dennis I used to go outside everyday and enjoy life even while dealing with really bad anxiety and panic for 4 years but after deciding to take setraline 25 mg I quit the 10th day due to sideaffects and I’ve been scared to go outside ever since. It’s been 2 months already/: it was just 6 months ago when me and my gf drove 15 hours to Portland Oregon and I had no problem and it was great. I just want to be normal again. I feel like SSRI made me anxiety worse /:

      Same thing with me. Withdrawals from antidepressants caused agoraphobia due to the severe anxiety... hope we can heal from this.

      I tried sertraline and had a bad effect on me, mertazapine suited me better for depression, but not anxiety, that is still ongoing
