@@koreanbeef27 I only caught the nuance you put in your reply on my second reading of your reply so I would suggest that you put more emphasis on the fact that they were adopting *COMUNIST IDEALS* not *COMUNISM* itself. Now if you know the difference between Communism the ideology & Communism the economic system this is rather easy to pick up on, but its not for people who don't & most anticommunists don't read that much communist theory.

@@koreanbeef27 You could also argue that many "communist" nations like the USSR with the totalitarian dictatorship and the gulags were never even ideologically communist.
In order to help describe this I'm going to draw on a parallel from history to the 'enlightened despots' of the enlightenment era. So, during the enlightenment people were coming up with and really starting to spread the ideas of democracy and freedom throughout the western world. This would quickly become a problem for the despots (kings or queens or other forms of authoritarian rulers) of the time. So, to protect their power they declared themselves enlightened despots so that they could get away with all of the horrible things they were doing with little change. These authoritarian rulers disingenuously championed their citizen's genuine ideals of freedom and demonocracy so that they could maintain their power.
The difference between the enlightened despots and the Communist rebel leaders that would eventually go on to become dictators is that the enlightened despots used this trick to maintain their power but they used it to gain said power.
I get where this version of Anakin is coming from here but gosh could you imagine a non representative democracy on a galactic scale? The republic is already a mess using the representative democracy model but having to track trillions of individual opinions sounds like a nightmare.
In an age of mass communication you can have social unity without necessitating ultimate political control.
Also, horizontalist anarchist federalism would still be an option, which would rather than see representatives elected to make decisions, would rather see “representatives” acting as messengers, entrusted with a mandate written by the masses. As such having no real independent power. And if they go against the mandate then they are recalled and their voice is discounted from the decision making.
All decisions made are non-binding resolutions. Where there is no legislation but negotiation. As such if a negotiation cannot be achieved than the deal simply does not go through rather than forcing some to simply “deal with it”. As such all deals are either unanimous and if not unanimous, non-binding.
The specifics of how these would be run would be unique to each group. However they would all need to be fair and equitable.
Structure can exist in anarchism. It just needs to be a structure dedicated to cooperation rather than authority.
@@ellieahearn4055 I don’t know, that seems way too decentralized to realistically work. Anarchistic systems have a tendency to be pretty vulnerable to outside threats so I get the vibe this would give the Yuuzang Vong or Mandalorians a bunch of soft targets they could take a big chunks out of before they mobilize a force with enough stoping power to repel them. There are just way too many factions in star wars that wouldn’t go along with that method of organization for it to be a viable solution to this.

While not anarchist, the Zapatistas and Rojava have a decentralized system and still exist today despite hostile neighbors.
Decentralization is not weaker. In many ways it is more flexible and less rigid. Allowing them to fight larger enemies more effectively. Any group that is less in number has a disadvantage. It is not a weakness of ideology but of numbers. And as such is not a sufficient argument against a larger anarchist movement.
Anarchism is not a power vacuum. That would be to confuse it with anomie. Anarchism is built upon community defense and so has a method of power, but a horizontalist power structure. Anarchism does not advocate for atomization of the individual but on strong social ties. As such, anarchism is not hostile to coordination but actively promotes it.
The notion that more decentralization means less effective is a non-sequitur.
It is a belief born out of authoritarian propaganda, that you need authority to be secure.
The issues within the Republic, the cause of the worst of the bureaucracy was due to the corruption of officials. The power centralized in the hands of the elected, while better than concentrated in the hands of a dictator, is still an avenue of suppression of the masses. This power of the politicians lead to the corruption, which led to the erosion of democracy in the Galactic Republic.
The reason representative democracy failed the Republic was not its horizontal coverage, in giving many planets representation. But rather in its verticality, as in the power imbalance between a senator and their people leading to opportunism.
@@collingreen9517 Well, from what I know, the bigger anarchist goals are that, GOALS. Since anarchism couldn't really work in a world where there are more centrally organized threats it has to be accomplished through a gradual global (or in the case of Star Wars, galactic) social movement which would convince and include everyone or almost everyone. Will you live to see that goal accomplished, probably not, but you can help.
Or at least that's how I think it works. I'm not confident enough in my knowledge of Anarchism to call my self an Anarchist but they all seem to have their heads in the right place so that at least counts for something.
