I work in a DIY store, once had a person returning a petrol powered chainsaw that was faulty. We're not allowed to have fuel in power tools in our shop, so I tell the customer that he needs to leave and empty it out into a fuel can off site. The next thing I see is said customer emptying said chainsaw into a paper cup that was balanced precariously on top of the cigarette bin we have at the front of the store. I have never screamed at a customer before but I think that my "Stop! Stop! For the love of God, Stop!" Was justified.

I stock shelves for Walmart and I’ve only been their for about a month and I feel like I’ve already seen the worst in humanity. I works nights because I am a college student and need my day free for classes and I’ve been witness to 3 code browns ( acts of violence ) 1 code Adam ( the kid never came in with his mom and stayed in the car) 4 different people losing their keys and filing a police report, and 1 of my co workers got her car set on fire while she was working because a guy tried to break into the car and when the alarm went of he poured gasoline on in and burned it to a crisp. It’s only my first month at here and every time I ask why are people like this I have to remind myself I work at freaking Walmart.

I once had a man yelling at me when I was filling shelves at the grocery store I worked at because the cart I had the products on was blocking his path and then he yelled at me to keep my distance because off Covid as he didn’t want to be killed. Next, I saw him going to the cash registers and he began yelling at a lady for skipping the line when she didn’t and just got in earlier. I complained to the manager and he said that atleast 10 other customers were annoyed by him and next time they saw him they told him to keep his mouth shut about the employees and customers otherwise they would throw him out. He did and I never heard from him again.
Another story that happened when I wasn’t there at work, but is creepy but also wholesome at the end. One evening and old guy accidentally tripped and fell in a glass door for the fridge with dairy products. The glass shattered and he hit his head on the edge off an iron shelf. Blood gushed out of his head like a fountain. Customers and employees were terrified and we couldn’t even move him to the back so they just laid some blankets and towels on the floor so he could rest his head. The store was even temporarily closed until the ambulance came. After a few minutes both the police and ambulance arrived and took him away.
It was a creepy sight, shattered glass and blood everywhere. Like I said, the manager closed the store to clean it up.
Luckily the man was able to recover in hospital, but suffered a concussion, fractured skull and severe blood loss. But he made it and recovered.
A week later we got some flowers, a bag off sweets and a big thank you card from his family for helping him out that day.

Some years ago my mom was a nurse at a small doctors office. One of her jobs was to answer the phone when the receptionist was at lunch. Shortly after taking over the phone duties, she received a phone call with a woman asking "Do you have a Sexhour there? Now mom had had a particularly hard day and was so flustered by the question she just responded with the first thought that came to mind. She said, " A Sexhour? Lady we don't even get a coffee break here." As it turned out, there was ANOTHER doctors office that had almost the same phone number and there was indeed a Dr.

I've been in retail for like 17 years and I've seen some crazy shit but 2 stories stick out to me. I worked at target and suddenly over our walkie talkies a person starts saying they need a clean up at the food court because someone pooped on the floor. I happened to be working the fitting roim at the time and just happened to have the 1 walkie that wouldn't turn off and was constantly stuck at the loudest volume. There's a guy waiting for his daughter when suddenly like 2 seconds after whoever had called for a clean up starts screaming that and I quote "There's fucking shit everywhere and the guests are starting to eat it CODE BROWN! CODE BROWN!" I ended up pulling the battery out and profusely apologize to the guy and his daughter. The second craziest thing was at my current job at claires. A group of people come in shop around for about 10 minutes and leave. As I'm walking through the store I notice the stroller they had come in with I then go to roll it to the front and notice their BABY is in the stroller. I run out trying to see if I could spot them. I then flag down security. As I'm talking to security I spot the family thinking they're comming back for their baby they forgot but they were heading toward the exit. I then get their attention and asked them if they were missing something they say no and I then point at the stroller and I said I think you left your baby in our store. The security guard lights into them. They legit hadn't notice they left their baby in our store smdh.

One of my stepfather's classic stories from Lowe's: a customer asks him "can you put flat paint on a round pole?" (Flat means the paint isn't shiny, nothing to do with the surface you are putting it on. More likely ignorance and no prior experience than stupidity)
    But then...
There was someone who came in asking for help making a frame to put his diploma in, as he just graduated from university.
    "What did you major in?"
    "Mechanical engineering."
    Now that is sad....

the weirdest story i’ve experienced was when some dude ran in after closing (somehow he got in?) in a bad cosplay of some sort and tried to rob us at gunpoint with what looked like a toy gun. he also said he had a bomb and was holding a clearly handmade prop made of tinfoil and like glued on beads. the thing is that the other people thought it was all real, which i don’t blame them for especially in the heat of the moment, so he escaped with like $5k and still hasn’t been caught by police. the guy is unskilled at robbing and he still succeeded.

Basically worked at a high end Japanese supermarket for a while, this lady basically asked me for a couple hundred grams of shabu shabu, so I took it. Was convinced it was not fresh even though literally minutes before she came we just cut and displayed. She almost got mad at me because she doesn't trust me and wanted a 'reliable source', so I had to run back into the kitchen and asked the butcher, he went out and had to talk to the customer...
5 minutes later I hear him and the entire kitchen cursing lmao...

Woman smelled like death in every sense of the word. She was morbidly obese. Her hair was a matted mess. Crazy cat lady pajamas on. She looked so sick I didn’t know how she was able to walk. Took forever to check out. My manager and a coworker was behind her when she came up to the till. Coworker was kneeling over to take something out of a box. He suddenly stood up spun around and got “What the...” out of his mouth before the manager just covered his mouth and dragged him away so he wouldn’t cause a scene. Customer literally took 5 min to check out, all while I’m dying to breathe. She finally leaves with the few things she was so indecisive about buying. My manager comes up to me and just says “Go!” I make a B line to the bathroom and vomit for 10 min. How can someone not know they smell like that.

I've wondered too but I guess some people either get used to it or have weaker noses?
I can usually handle it, from old mothball smell to animal smell. But I remember this one guy who came in every now and again at nights and he smelled so bad, I couldn't be around. I'd go to the back or try to find something that smells good to sniff like scented candles or dryer sheets.

Last Christmas season I was shopping at Meijer (a supermarket in Ohio, Michigan, and I don’t know where else) when someone came in smelling absolutely vile. It was near the entrance, so I thought for a minute that a skunk had somehow wandered into the parking lot and gotten run over by a car. I went to a different section, but after a few minutes the person came to that section too. I had to go at least three aisles away before I could breathe easily. What’s even sadder is that Halloween there was a group of trick-or-treaters with a guardian who stunk like that. Imagine being the child whose parent/guardian stinks. Some people have no pride or thought for other people. Note: It would be one thing if it were a situation beyond the person’s control (like they had no running water because they were so poor they had to choose between paying utilities and having food/medicine/heat); I’m talking about people who reek because they just don’t give a flip.

Yesterday while I had shift, a man comes in giving back 8 empty bottles of beer. And when he saw the receipt he was like "But I had 9 bottles, not 8". I counted the bottles. 8. Not 9.
Then he got furious and said "I'll talk to the manager bye." The lady behind him shook her head while I did the same. My boss is chill about such stuff cuz everyday something like that somehow happens. He said "yeah I'll take a look on the CCTV and then we'll see".

    Today was really hard.
It's my second day on the job (I've done retail before so not completely new to the degeneracy) and a lovely disabled lady came to pay.
This lady wanted a home delivery (we take her shopping and put them into crates to ship out the same day). She had a lot of things, so it took a while, but I didn't mind.
Meanwhile, the que begins to build up to a lot of people and we couldn't open another till as there were staff shortages.
Other customers then start making rude comments at the disabled lady and myself for not being fast enough (little do they know I have autism and asthma and am also disabled).
I really had to bite my tongue today. They joked about her being homeless and to address the delivery to "no fixed abode". I was disgusted, but tried to be fast as to not hold up the que much longer.

15:08 got something similar. I worked at JCPenney in highschool, and my shoe dept also sold purses, scarves etc. positioned across the aisle from my registers. I was ringing out this couple when a lady in a motorized wheelchair accidentally hit the leg of the display table of purses, broke the leg and down came a glass shelf with about 12 purses on it. I ran to go help the lady and the other woman’s husband ran from the counter to help me lift the table up. I called my boss $ 3 other coworkers to assist me and the wheelchair lady told me she was ok and was sorry. I sent her on her way, and the other couple went downstairs and complained to the other manager that I “refused to ring their stuff up”. I told the boss to go watch the cameras bc I had a lady in a wheelchair BURIED under purses and glass shelves. They duct taped the leg of the table and guess who got a write up.

1:55 - My mother was actually accused of stealing at a Macy's because she had been near the entrance/exit with a shirt when she *actually had been looking for the bathrooms*
This particular Macy's had situated the bathrooms right next to the Entrance/Exits, like, down long hallways right next to the exits.
She, an older lady and a long time customer of several years with a Macy's account, loyalty card, and absolutely no history of theft or misbehavior, everything, was told to stay in place until the police came while she literally needed to go to the bathroom - also which did not have any side exits, etc, ended up nearly having an incident, had to go to court where even the court lawyer was staring at us in disbelief and just told her to do some token community service.
12:55 - Take it up with corporate, every damn day there's some "Sale", there never *isn't* a sale, and everyone is handed 20-40% coupons which can be slapped on top of the "Sale". JCPenny tried to cut that shit out, "Real Prices" and it cost them their customer base.

I work at a grocery store. The other day, it was 9am, the store was oddly busy, and a woman calls me over on the self-checkout. She tells me that her note cards are ringing up the wrong price and they were marked $1.99 (they showed $2.49). So, as a kind human, I call another person to ask them to check the price for me, and even check online myself. The $2.50 price was correct. The $1.99 was for the store brand, which she didn't buy. When I told her, she instantly lost her crap and goes, "Well that shouldn't happen. You need to fix this." To which I reply, "I'm sorry, there is nothing I can do, but if you'd like you can buy the other brand. Or I can just take them off for you." And she gets, "OH YOU LOOK REALLL SORRY. YOU WORK HERE THIS IS YOUR FAULT AND YOU NEED TO FIX THIS." I was like ummm I have no control over every other employee, but okay. This just happened lastnight…I was doing inventory And this middle eastern man with his kid comes up to me asking me a question but I couldn’t understand him clearly due to his heavy accent…luckily my middle eastern coworker was right near us so I called her to us and I asked her if she can help him…once she started speaking to him in Arabic, this dude went from 0 to 100…literally threw his water bottle across the room almost hitting us and started to yell at both of us saying that we probably think he is stupid or something and that he is fluent in English…ok surely he wasn’t fluent in English because I clearly couldn’t understand him well and he also couldn’t understand me when he first came up to me…all he had to do was nicely say “”I don’t need translation assistance thank you”” but he just decided to act a fool of himself and make a big scene in front of other customers and in front of 5 managers that had come to see what was happening…poor kid of his looked scared. Pretty much the next day all of the entire managers and all of the employees had heard about him saying what a psycho he was…he literally became the store’s employees laughingstock. Obviously me and my coworker didn’t get in trouble because we did nothing wrong and all the 5 managers that were there near us that had witnessed the whole thing, they were on our side

Not me, but my friend, (while I was working at Walmart) a man came up to her register demanding that the medium size tortillas be discounted to the price amount of the small size tortillas.
She declined and the man began to throw a raging fit, cussing and screaming at her that he demands it, she refused and called management, the man then took management to the area where the tortillas were--in hope of--persisting them to give him a two dollar discount.
    They refused.
In return, he started cussing at them, as well, declaring he is 'paying customer' and demands to be respected. Starting to pull things off the shelf.
He was taken out in handcuffs and banned from ever shopping at that Walmart again.

Here in Sweden we have a specific store for alcohol above 3.5%. When tourists come here for vacation they always look confused over the lack of the stronger stuff. One day while is was shopping for food a large German lady in a grocery store asked me about an expensive bottle of wine. I told her to go to the liquor store across the street since they don't sell them here. Well apparently that was the wrong thing to say. She scoffed and went over to an employee and told me that is was rude to not fetch her a wine bottle. When the employee said the exact same thing as i did she repeated her demand without accepting her mistake. Idiot.

I work in a kitchen store and it was my first shift working alone, I had a guy ask me what I recommended (like in the whole store) and I showed him some popular mugs because they’re great gift ideas and there’s lots of designs to choose from
And he asks what my favorite is, so I tell him.
He asks how long I’ve been working there for and when I work
This dude then UNPROVOKED looked me in the eyes and said «three of my girlfriends had sex with my brother and I just feel so betrayed»
    And I couldn’t not laugh
He then said my eyes were like pearls and they reminded him of the ocean, and asked me out
    To which I said «I’m sorry but I don’t like boys»
    He goes «you’re a.. lesbian?»
    I’m like yeah
He then asks for a hug and I say no because I don’t know him
He gives me a fistbump instead and walks away
But as he’s almost out of the store he turns around and says
«You won’t report me for sexual harrasment right?»

Had a guy ask me about frozen meat for making sandwiches one day when I was stocking the freezer section at a grocery store...I show him the steak-umms and he takes one look at it and says , " oh I don't want a frozen sandwich,I want to make my own!" I then explained that it is only sliced frozen beef in the box...not a whole sandwich.
I guess he couldn't reason that a whole big ass sandwich like the picture on the box couldn't fit into a package not much thicker than a deck of playing cards.

Hoo boy. So I used to work at a large regional grocery store chain, and there was this guy who would follow certain people around and leave those little religious comics everywhere, the ones that talk about being gay and drag queens and stuff and about how if you like any of those things you're going to Hell. I was one of the people he tended to follow (I'm very androgynous-looking, and have colored hair and piercings), and one day one of my managers got on his case about it. He started screaming at her and calling her a "devil woman" (she also had colored hair, and had tons of tattoos) until the store manager came down and told him to get out. He's now permanently banned from that store.

Behind the counter in plain view is the large cigarette cabinet and our wall of helium balloons with helium tank. More than six times I have had people look straight at me and ask if we have cigarettes or balloons.
Another two times I had separate people bring up a block of Philadelphia cream cheese and ask if it's the only butter we had in. These are just the irritating things.

She made other stupid and untrue comments as well, so needless to say, I don't go to that doctor anymore. Some dude came to return a USED for SEVEN years toilet seat... he had the receipt and the original boxing and everything and the poor woman had to take it back and allow him to get a new one for free... I think they upped their policy after that one...
Then, once, in Costco, during Corona, they were LOADED with toilet paper. Like, it was a KINGDOM. We had a pack in our cart and this woman came up and asked us where it was... My dad pointed to an aisle where you could clearly see it... woman tried to take ours... people are weird.

I worked at a store we'll call "Not-So-Small-Mart." It had taken over a store we'll call "J-Mart." Jmart moved to the local mall, and I was hired to Not-So-Small-Mart just before it opened. Since the store opened late winter-early spring, we only had summer stock.
A couple of months after the grand opening, I saw a man with a propane heater. I asked him if he needed some help. He cursed me up and down, saying that he KNOWS that he bought the heater here the previous fall and we don't know what we were doing, etc. I explained that that fall, J-mart was there, and they moved to the mall.
Nope, we were screwing with him, and we were all incompetent. I say I'm still considered new and I'm not familiar with the layout. Let's go back to the Customer service Desk and find out what's going on.
We nearly reach the front, and I let him go ahead of me, cursing all the way there. It was then I noticed a security sticker on the box.
"Sir," I said. "That sticker is for 'Sames' (a third department store in the same city that had been at that spot for years before either Not-So-Small-Mart or J-Mart opened).'"
He walked out of the store without another word.

I use to work at shoppers drug mart. I had this psycho Karen got into a fight with me because she did not want to pay $1.22 for her medication claiming that her insurance covered 100% costs of all medication, it didn't. I told her that's what the price came to after insurance and she had to pay it. It got so bad the pharmacist had to come over and she called him a racial slur when he refused to give her medication to her for free and that she had to pay the $1.22. He told her that this was a pharmacy not a charity and that if she could not pay $1.22 for her medication she should go to the parking lot and look for change on the ground. He then kicked her out of the store.
