What he said at the end is 100% accurate. Several European countries have substantially lower recidivism rates than the US. The reason is because they emphasize rehabilitation and focus on correcting the behavior, rather than revenge. This is already been documented.

I’ve heard that for 30 years and it is simply untrue, as is much of what Mr. Thompson says about society in general from extrapolating his prison experience. What criminologist have k own from data research is that criminality become a habit for three primary reason: crime pays very well (why work for $120/day when you can make $1000/day selling drugs); personality and generational repetitiveness; and a small percentage of total of necessity (drug addiction, rent due…). Those reasons prevail around the world and will never change. European experience is, overall, more harsh (cut off the had of a thief, Death Lena,Ty for dealing drugs…)

So all the black and Hispanic people in prison are only there cuz of their skin color and growing up poor??? It has nothing to do with gangbanging and selling drugs. I'm black and I can't stand when people say ignorant things like that. There's a lot of black and Mexican people who grew up poor who never went to prison too, what did they do differently I wonder....
