my dad just passed away, my stepmoms giving me all his hats. i mean Borsalinos, Biltmores, Stetsons, etc... hats since the 80's until a few years ago. I'm beside myself! really sad right now but, i'm just so appreciative of these classic heirlooms!
John Shaft hats from the 80s are not highly sought after it was during this time hat makers cut alot of corners. People really try to find 60s an earlier.
I just got a hat in made by Dirty Biily (Dirty Billys Hats out of Gettysburg, PA) and he is one of the best in the US (imo) when it comes to historical hats especially. I had him make me the "Longstreet Hat" as seen in the movie: "Gettysburg" and I am thrilled w/ it. Now here I am on youtube trying to learn about the trade as I'd like to learn it myself possibly. Funny how when I was young I never knew what I wanted to be when I "grew up" and then the internet came into my life in the year 2000. Now 19 years later and at 47 years old, with my health completely shot I have about 100 different interests and things I wish I did when I was still young and healthy enough to have made a career out of doing them. Funny how life works sometimes. Live your life doing the things you love when you can do them as you never know when those days may end abruptly. Don't grow old and have regrets that you didn't reach for your dreams when you could have made them realities. I learned long ago that money and material crap does not equate to happiness. Surely poverty can bring misery, but the greed of money and covetous of material crap is a waste of a life. Enjoy the finer things when they present themselves but not at the cost of your soul or too much of your precious time that you have on this earth as none of it is worth it in the end. It's better to spend that time stocking-up things that you can actually take with you when you leave this earth.... brotherhood, love, friendships and memories in others minds of how you were always there for them to lend an ear, a hand, or whatever else was needed before they ever had to ask for it. Just my 2 cents of unsolicited advice on life. Not sure why I typed all that... hopefully someone needed to read it someday lol. Great video and channel!
I have looked for hat making articles for ages and this is by far the best one I have came across. Great quality video and the hatmaker has great style with his own look..very dapper.
How can a guy live so many decades without knowing much or anything about 'felt'? So, I just watched a couple of videos on how felt is made from the commercial companies to individual felt makers. Much respect is gained for this most useful and universal product.
Hey guys. Im quiet interested Int this art. Been searching for courses but had no luck in finding one. Do you guys know of any place where I can aquire this art?
yeah dude!! thats what i want to know? did you ever find out.. i have been doing some research with heaps of other hat makers but nothing is ever mentioned or shown. i just dont want to try something and stain the felt in the process.
Kind of where I am at right now. Bought a ton of stetsons and Akubra and I cannot find the "perfect hat" for me... I just bought my first crown block and will be trying to make my own.
Most custom hatters use similar equipment and use similar techniques. One thing I like about this hatter is that he uses more decorative headbands which I believe gives it a more unique statement.
Amazing Hats. Peter you should have a talk to your physician. You have nail clubbing which could be an indicator of a number of different conditions but should not be ignored.
They spray a light Mist Coat on the Hat and let it burn for 10-30 Seconds then put out the Fire with Steam. This is done with Rabbit Fur Felt too. That's what the Matchstick represents.
That's kinda what we love about the term is about how we can change the perception of Old Money as a bunch of badass bearded dudes start becoming successful and changing the way society views beardsmen.
Why are you ripping off the trademark of Nick Fouquet by adding a match stick signatory? I'll be letting Nick know about this, assuming he's not already aware. It's a shame because it looks like you make great products, I'm not sure why you'd steal a colleagues trademark in attempt to make those great products seem more appealing.
You do know that putting a matchstick in a hat goes back to before the great depression right? it was something that everyone did, and it is super distasteful and a disrespekt to all hatters that Nick have put a trademark on it. And this video is old its before he made the trademark.
Nick Fouquet is the one ripping off the match stick insertion, it’s been around for ages and I’ve been doing it since the 70s (in Brooklyn, NY) before Nick was born...”Fouquet about it!”

Yo

This was such a delight to watch. As a milliner is is great to see another human pick up this dying art.
Yeah, that was really neat! It's a shame-- and I didn't realize-- that it is a "dying art." I presume that nowadays most hats are machine-made (?)

Hey guys. Im quiet interested Int this art. Been searching for courses but had no luck in finding one. Do you guys know of any place where I can aquire this art?

\m/ what type of hats do you specialize in?
-Parker
I make western and fedoras. I own Rio Grande Hatters and Texas Hat Cleaners.
That's one great hat. Plus I liked being able to see how he made it.
Hey hey, I love the hat you made, but do you make the Rasta uptown rockers beaver hats too?
Amazing video !
What product do you use to burn it ?
That's how felt hats are finished, not made.
Really cool. Love your hats.
I would like to learn how to make beaver felt hats, any schools you can recommend?
Did you manage to find a school?
No Schools only Mentors!
i wonder how many people think dude is johnny depp
and Ali G
What do you spray the hat with before lighting it on fire?
yeah dude!! thats what i want to know? did you ever find out.. i have been doing some research with heaps of other hat makers but nothing is ever mentioned or shown. i just dont want to try something and stain the felt in the process.
Kind of where I am at right now. Bought a ton of stetsons and Akubra and I cannot find the "perfect hat" for me... I just bought my first crown block and will be trying to make my own.
What kind of steamer iron are using ..and can you recommend one to me ..
Great Video, so every step in making a hat is handmade? did not know that.
Excellent production!
Wow! Beautiful work!
Hey, the hats are pretty damn cool. Could you please tell me the name of the music whitch starts at 1"38? Thank you, and keep going
Interesting video! I love the art behind the creation!
what is the hat name of the hats you gents are wearing?
Did anyone else get surprised that this was a beard brand episode?
How did your hair remain *PERFECT* when you took the hat off? That was magical.
Most custom hatters use similar equipment and use similar techniques. One thing I like about this hatter is that he uses more decorative headbands which I believe gives it a more unique statement.
Keith Mitchell, I really like that ribbon he put on that hat.
Guy Lewis I like a lot of his headbands and wish is website would show more examples.
Dang, true craftsmanship
Carlos what wrist watch are you wearing on this video mate? looks cool. cheers and beard on )
What is the brand of steamer that you use?
Hipster level: over 9 trillion
They're too old to be hipsters and if it's the brims I'm thinking about, hipsters aren't paying that much for these hats.
palmer911 your never to old to be a hipster bro, they called the OG hipster. I've know a few over the years.
*****
haha I hear ya
K0ester more like OG clowns
lmao so true. They don't represent the classic gentlemen's outfit of the 20's - they're weirdos, trying to set a weird trend with no charme
Thought there would be a link to Peters shop Mate
teakey first link in the description has everything. Here's it directly: www.hornskovkobenhavn.com/collections/old-money

BELLÍSIMO!!!!!!!!! GRACIAS POR LA EXPLICACION.. SALUDOS DESDEARGENTINA.
amazing!!
where is this place in Denmark i mean city and street ?
Amazing.
This was Very Interesting, These Hats are Sweet !
What is that green spraybottle? Is it alcohol?
i've play with fire all my life and I can tell you that's not alcohol, the way flame travel and the speed is too fast for even pure 91 alcohol.
So it must be 92% alcohol.
Amazing
Fascinating. Thank you
Serious question tho: what are the tools he used?
Hat Blocks and skill! You got to do it for awhile before you get good at it. The Ribbon is a Trade Secret!
Thank you thank you thank you !
Happy to help!
Que hermoso video Carlos!
Very nice !
What's the brim size on the hat on Johnny depp? Looks 3+"
Ok can you tell me site ?
www.hornskovkobenhavn.com/
what's the liquid he sprayed to light it on fire
probably just booze
It does kinda look like Alcohol of some sort!
Nice !!!
How much for a black one just like the video?
$3K-$3.5K His Hats are the finest!
I am trying to make angora felt from my rabbits on my farm to value ad, hats used to be made from felted rabbit fur:)
He must be a escape convict because he looks like he's wearing a disguise lol
Teardrop is best style of crown no cap
I want a beaver fog hat.
I love the smell of shellac in the morning...
I thought the matchstick was a Nick Fouquet trademark
Carlos looks so olden day like he belongs in the 1600's 😂
Late 19th century actually... it was a good period to be alive. ;)
Guys, is that Napoleon III?
todo loco !!
The hat came out as beautiful as the process. Amazing! I wish I could have a hat like that.. But I have a huge ass head and it won't work😂
Same here XD
Get a Beaver Bowler
What is the liquid in the squirt bottle he sets on fire?!
I think it was just alcohol.
NO, and DO NOT ATTEMPT with alcohol
@kcalb what is the liquid then if not alcohol?
Amazing Hats. Peter you should have a talk to your physician. You have nail clubbing which could be an indicator of a number of different conditions but should not be ignored.
“I’m your huckleberry”
bad ass hat..man..
Beaver
Mi Chanel haya🎨🎨🎨
WTF?!? They actually set them briefly on fire?!? Did not know that. How does it not ruin the beaver pelt?
The liquid burns and not the felt. If you are waiting too long the house will burn down too. 😉
They spray a light Mist Coat on the Hat and let it burn for 10-30 Seconds then put out the Fire with Steam. This is done with Rabbit Fur Felt too. That's what the Matchstick represents.
Is is alcohol?
Enchantedly elegant craft....will $1,000 lb do the justice...?
johnny depp, the mad hatter.
Wow, I need to fix my hat with better tools. I used a metal bowl lol.
yo guys.......
just trimmed my full grown beard into a goaty ....
man can't believe this Shit...
Do you like it?
-Parker
Johnny depp makes hats?
This is how to shape…. Not make.
That's so funny, I'm from Palm Beach and 'Old Money' to me is wrinkled, white and racist. lol But fascinating to learn about Millinery.
That's kinda what we love about the term is about how we can change the perception of Old Money as a bunch of badass bearded dudes start becoming successful and changing the way society views beardsmen.
Beardbrand Cheers to that! 🎩🍸
