  • Today we're making this durable, western weight rabbit felt fedora. This is being made for my brother and is meant to evoke an outdoors/western feeling.

Love watching your videos. I prefer a "regular guy" video doing something he enjoys over all the fancy tech stuff. Makes me feel comfortable to try new things. Hope you still continue adding some woodworking videos also but you did a fantastic job with this. Keep up the great work.

I have been trying to work on reblocking, shaping and making my own fedora hats. You have filled in a lot of gaps. Thank you! This has been very educational. Thank you for sharing your process

Would you be able to tell me where I get or if I just make the sweatband? About to attempt my first hat.

Even though the Indiana Jones hat is my favorite, that hat looks pretty dang sweet. Great job! Please do more Indy hats too!

Sorry I’m just now seeing this, I’ve been more active on my other channel, The Adventure Den. I’d like to start offering hats eventually. I talked about it a bit more in depth on the most recent video on that channel.

Wonderful video! It just so happens that I planned to make a hat out of rabbit felt as well, this is a great guide. First time I've ever had the first like/comment as well lol

That’s awesome! I’d love to see it when it’s finished. I’m still very much learning how to do it myself. Kirk Brackman has a video on making a hat and he’s been such a huge help with learning.
      Thanks man!

Also, you want to capture that reeding wire with a metal ferrule or shrink tubing, ensure the length of the wire is 1.5cm longer than the sweatband and pull it closed with a stitch after feeding the ferrule or shrink tubing into the reeding tape and slap a piece of white masking tape on it to keep it closed until you zigzag it closed. If the wire is not longer than the sweatband it will leave a line on your forehead and will be uncomfortable and will also be difficult to install.

Do you spray with a shellac after getting the shape you want? My 20 year old 'Australian Outback' hat is looking pretty beat and needs some seroius blocking, stiffening. I was thinking of steaming, reshaping, but was concerned it still might look pretty limp and bash not so defined. Any advice appreciated!

Hi, I am trying to make my first felt hat. I have a pinch shaped block and have the tie cord tied, but on my first few attempts I have been unsuccessful at getting the cord tight and staying that way so I can push it down to the bottom of block. What am I missing?

very nice hat! any chance you could reply to my comment on your table top coin toss game about the dimensions/plans to complete it for my dad for fathers day? Thanks!

Thank you! Sorry for the lack of a response. Every time I get up to do it, the adhd takes me elsewhere 😂
I used half inch wood for all the pieces, and I don’t think I actually used any measurements when I made it. However, the total dimensions are 3 3/4”, by 9 1/4, with 1” holes spaced roughly 2 3/8” apart from each other.
Since the tops of mine had the pin stripe details, the top was comprised of 4, 1/2 inch pieces with the center being about 1 5/8” wide.
      Hope that helps!

Never iron directly on the brim. It will give the felt a shiny finish. Iron through an old, clean piece of bed sheet or similar cotton material.
