What's amazing is that young guys in their 20s within 5 years would go from "I Want To Hold Your Hand" to "I Want You (She's So Heavy)"

People who complain about your "bare-bones research" sound short-sighted. You do the most research of any reactor I've seen and it's great to see someone so consistently take genuine interest in learning and absorbing all this music that's new to you. It doesn't matter how much knowledge you have, it's just great to see someone likeable and fun to watch, and someone with a keen musical eye, even if not professionally so, give their thoughts on these catalouges. You're doing great!
Also agree that Abbey Road is definitely a summer album.
    Happy Birthday!

I appreciate that he listens to the song first before looking it up. Some reactors read first and listen after, which I think prejudices them. Especially since not everything they read is accurate. I believe that the listener's interpretation is more relevant than the background of the song anyway. That said, as a true fan, I am as obsessed with finding out as much as possible about the background info as anyone else.😃

A very happy birthday to you Jesse, even under the sad circumstances. You’ve plenty of reasons to be proud of what you’ve done, I’ve really enjoyed your Bowie and Beatles opinions, it’s been a treat to watch you enjoy the artists I hold so dear. Keep up the great work, I’m going to check out your Abbey Road journey. I’m old enough to probably be your grandfather, so great to follow your journey.

I've enjoyed your Beatle reactions Jesse, you won't go far wrong in life if you are eager to learn, and you obviously are. I'm 70 yrs old, I was a teenager back in the sixties. My father died when I was 11 yrs old and my mother died when I was 15. It was my family that kept me going, but also music, and the Beatles music in particular was a great comfort to me. Can I also say I like that picture on the wall behind you, I don't know what it is but I like It. 😊

I am STUNNED that you wouldn't listen to 'OH DARLING" again, OMG. That is my favorite on Side one, I JUST LOVE how Paul shows people that he can sing with a gritty rough voice with the best of them. His voice is the most VERSATILE of all the Beatles.

Jesse - hello from the UK. I just wanted to say I’ve enjoyed your Beatles discography journey - I’ve watched all of these, as I’m a bit of a Beatlemaniac(!!) and am fascinated as to what younger people think of their work from a modern perspective. The fact that you’ve taken the time to immerse yourself in their personalities and history as well as their music gives you a well-rounded view of what they were all about. I will miss these posts, but look forward to you starting the John discography. Please also consider diving into Paul’s post-Beatles work too, as I imagine you’ll enjoy a lot of that music. George too.
Your mum would be so proud of you, wherever she is, and I say that as a parent of two beautiful people who are both around your age, perhaps a couple of years older.
And you are indeed qualified enough to judge music - ANY music - as it is all personal to each of us, therefore all opinions are valid. But you taking the time to do this properly absolutely validates your judgement. Wishing you all the best in the future.

With albums as they had developed it wasn't really about picking which songs you want to hear again as much as do you want to play the album again from start to end? For me Abbey Road and Sgt Pepper at least pass that test. Not all songs are meant to be heard separately, and The Beatles up to Sgt Pepper left singles off albums anyway. Albums had gone away from being collections of singles to being a journey in themselves. The songs play off each other and guide you to the high points, such as A Day in the Life at the end of Sgt Pepper.

Beatles songs along with mccartney lennon and harrison songs were always on the radio. When lennon was killed I was a kid and was just confused because you know, the love songs guy, really, him? That is what got me to listen to the whole of the beatles. What can I say they are like 99.999 pure gold

Enjoyed your reactions. I was 10 when I saw them on Ed Sullivan, like most of the U.S. did on a February Sunday night in ‘64. It was like a musical light switch was turned on for me. Finally this energetic music with a style I had never heard before would be the music I wanted to hear. In the beginning their music and personalities (see ‘A Hard Day’s Night’) represented freedom. Freedom from what was an ultra-conservative and uptight world. One thing people forget is the impact of their ‘long’ hair when they first arrived. It looks short and conservative now, but in ’64 it represented that freedom, defiance of the older generation and was like nothing anyone had ever seen (my father called them 'animals' on that Sullivan show). As the ‘60s went on they became like musical gods but at the same time you always felt like you knew them personally, like close friends you could turn to whenever you needed them.

George's guitar playing is so underated, its simple but with so much intent, it changes songs entirely, take "Michelle" for example...or another simple exercise to appreciate his talent, listen to Badfinger's "Day after Day" about halfway through the song Goerge added a few licks, like some triplets on his electric guitar, and you can appreciate how the song goes to another level, just incredible taste

Paul George and George all grabbed their electric 🎸 guitars and John told Yoko to leave the room.. all three fired up their guitars and traded 1..2..3..rotation playing short solo segments. They did it live together instead of recording separate tracks. Incredible

Jesse, I’ve so enjoyed our journey together… watching you experience the medley for the first time put a real smile on my face. And knowing Bridge Over Troubled Waters is coming soon does too.
Since you recognized the value of going straight through, I suppose it’s time to break your long-standing Pink Floyd drought and do The Wall. Need to do that straight, too. But do some research on the story first. It’s…enlightening.
Happy birthday, my friend. Cheers…and peace.

My third, (of five sons) was born on the day my mother passed only 17 years later, and he passed away four years ago. Happy Birthday! And condolences. They were so blessed to have passed so closely together, I have been with my husband 43 years and am terrified he will pass before me. While this is my first time seeing you and I did subscribe, but never feel or let anyone make you feel you have no right to do this! Diversity with music increases intelligence. Please, don't stop! If I could make just one suggestion, it would be please don't verbalize the lyrics. We have been listening to these songs 50+ years, we know the lyrics.

This album has been in heavy rotation in my musical world ever since its release. The medley is a lesson in how to stitch together disparate music snippets. Of course it helps that the snippets are all of such high quality. George's guitar work on the album is so under rated.

Though you have exhausted the studio recordings, there's much more to the story to explore: their career as live performers, the story of how they first came together and their rise to fame, and what they thought of their shared experience: check out THE BEATLES ANTHOLOGY video series and associated albums (includes two new songs recorded in the 1990s), EIGHT DAYS A WEEK (about their touring career), and the recently released GET BACK documentary. There are also their feature films A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, HELP!, MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR, YELLOW SUBMARINE (animated), and LET IT BE.

Jesse, I was 11 when they were on Ed Sullivan! Fell in love with them, their look, music just everything. I have a scrapbook I created from that day till the breakup in 1970. Their music is a soundtrack to my life. I’m in my 60s now, (Paul McCartney will be 80 this June) and thru all my fabulous times & very hard times, there has been the constant music and/or song of The Beatles that would comfort me and lift me up. Paul is still doing concerts because he loves it that much! I saw Paul’s group WINGS in 1976. His first wife Linda was in the group also, at his request. They were very great and also had #1 hits. The song Live and Let Die from a James Bond movie of the same name, was done by Paul. I could Beatle speak forever but I’ll leave you with a few facts.
The song BLACKBIRD was written because during our civil rights struggle, Paul saw on the news 3 young black women being harassed going into a white college for the FIRST time. England didn’t segregate people and girls were called “birds” that’s BLACKBIRD. Also during that time, in Georgia or some Southern state, they were supposed to play in the FIRST ever concert in a stadium. The officials said they would have to do 2 concerts, one for black people and one for white. The Beatles told them “Our music is for EVERYONE and if you don’t let everyone in we’ll cancel the concert.” That was the FIRST integrated event in the South and there were no fights or problems. That is how their music effected not only fans but they used their fame to make positive changes in our country! Thank you for exploring their music. Peace & Love ✌🏻

Boy, you're going to carry that weight a long time! But time and music are the best healing things. After the Beatles, I recommend the Velvet Underground, starting with the first album with the Andy Warhol banana cover. It's the foundation of alternate music, including punk and new wave.

Happy Birthday, I’m very sorry to hear about your mother passing away. Especially on a day that is supposed to be meant for celebration. Though it’s amazing to hear that you’re moving on and doing the best you can do for not only yourself, but her as well. Both her and your father would be proud to see that you’re moving forward and doing what you love. The only qualification you need to make TH-cam videos and album reviews is the want to learn and have fun. Follow you’re heart and do what you think is right. You got tons of people on your side, including your parents. As long as you keep at it and are having fun, you’ll be more successful than you could ever imagine. But remember that success is quantitative to happiness as well as how much YOU enjoy what you’re doing. Sorry for dragging this out but you’re story really spoke to me lol

This album comes across as a really good band who knows this is the last thing they're going to do as a band. They showed a little bit of everything and added a touch of polish to it that's above and beyond even for them. I always get a little chill at the final note of the end. Her Majesty is funny but I kind of wish it just ended with The End.
Good job by the way. Sorry you're done. You're one of a few of my favorite Beatles reviewers who recently ran out of Beatles.
I was 9 when John Lennon was shot. I didn't know who he was, but my parents bought us his new album (Double Fantasy) on 8 track. We liked it and checked out some Beatles after that. Then I was amazed at how many of their songs I already knew. I couldn't believe that was John Lennon and that he had just died. Anyways, they've pretty much been my favorite band since then. The were a stepping stone into classic rock, then hard rock and eventually metal for me.

Thats how big they were from the get. Hi Jesse - happy birthday!
First of all I enjoyed watching you on your journey through the latter part of the Beatles albums.
It's courageous of you to share your personal thoughts like you did, and it seems to me like you enjoyed the ride.
I think your closing remarks made a lot of sense, and I wish you luck with your continued journey.
My own story of what the Beatles meant to me, is not easy to tell, but I can give a few clues.
The Beatles have played a big role in my life, and influenced a lot of my thoughts, emotions and views of the world.
Being born in 1959 I heard some of their songs when I was maybe 5 or 6 years old. Even though I did not understand any English at the time, some bits of the songs left impressions in my memory of my childhood.
It was not, however until the beginning of the 1970's when I starting actively listening to music that I became interested in their music, and I spent the next decade or so exploring their music, to a point where the music is so much a part of me, that I can not be objective about it (and that's why it is refreshing for me to watch you 'discover' the music).
For me, the Beatles is the greatest band of all times - for several reasons. Each of the band members were very talented, but the four of them together made magic. They contributed in different ways to a kaleidoscope of musical genres and the journey the band was on musically and personally through the 1960's when they grew up formed themselves as well as a great deal of the culture of the 1960's. I think they had major influence on not just the 1960's but several decades later, and much of their music can still influence people today.
For me, the white album holds a special place. It was the first Beatles album I bought, and it still shines on with its songs contrasting each other in a way that elevates it to a complete picture of what great music can be.
I was of course very sad the day John Lennon was killed, it sort of killed a the dream I had of them coming together as a band, and I remember the day very well.
I never experienced the Beatles perform live, but I did get a chance to see Paul McCartney live in Denmark, which was amazing.

Now on to Ram, All Things Must Pass, Ringo, Plastic Ono Band, Imagine, Band On The Run, Living In The Material World, 33 and 1/3, Cloud Nine, Venus and Mars, the list goes on and on. If you are interested in watching 8 hours of The Beatles in the studio, go over to Disney+ and watch the Peter Jackson 3 part documentary "Get Back".

That 's how I feel, sometimes people take some songs way too seriously! I LIKE Maxwell's Silver Hammer, and I always picture Mal Evams, their longtime roadie, banging a hammer on an anvil, which is exactly what he did to achieve that sound.

HBd man! You still have two more official Beatles songs to listen to. 'Free As a Bird' and 'Real Love' came out in the mid 90s when their Anthology documentary came out. Paul, George and Ringo added parts to two John Lennon home demos to create new Beatles music.
You could also react to the Anthology albums and even the actual documentary which is amazing. The Anthology albums have some unreleased songs and alternate versions that are worth checking out. There are even some Beatles versions of their later solo songs on the Anthology albums.
Anyway, looking forward to your John Lennon reactions. His first album is incredibly raw. Can't wait!

So John Lennon's discography actually starts with the Unfinished Music and The Wedding albums. However some people consider Plastic Ono Band his first, and for good reason! Putting this as lightly as possible, let's just say the first 3 albums are...something else..........Those three albums would be quite the interesting reaction video.

Happy Birthday. It’s great that you can be so philosophical about what has been a really difficult year. Don’t worry about people who laugh or make derogatory comments on here. You don’t have to be versed in musical theory to comment on music. Music is there to be enjoyed by all!! You do have two more songs to listen to; Free as a Bird and Real Love. Recorded by Paul, George and Ringo in the early 90s using some demos John made in the late 70s.
Abbey Road comes second on my Beatles rankings, very close behind Revolver. I’m curious to know where you’d rank them all 😊

I could have watched you listen to all the songs uncut. It was fun watching you get into the Beatles having not heard hardly any of their songs. They were just revolutionary in not only music, but pop culture. No one will ever come close to what they managed to accomplish in such a short period. John was an underrated rhythm guitarist and his lyrics were always honest and raw. Paul’s bass lines throughout are brilliant and his writing always looked for the positivity in life. George…a great lead guitarist and eventually, we saw a glimpse of his writing capability towards the end of the Beatles. If you ever watch Get Back, watch how he helps Ringo piece together Octopus’ Garden and takes no credit. Then there is Ringo. His timing and fills were amazing, again, you see that in Get Back (film) and the way he would compensate being a leftie using a right-hand kit and how he would devise timing methods, as with George’s Here Comes The Sun.
Four gifted guys who happened to meet at the right time in life…leaving a legacy and some wonderful memories for everyone to enjoy

Happy birthday Jesse!! (first time I bring myself to comment on one of your videos). I've really enjoyed this journey through the Beatles discography. I really love them and their songs, and your every review to each song. Abbey Road was my favourite album for quite some time (In rainbows took over), and it had one of the first Beatles songs I've ever heard. I first listened to the Beatles back when I was 4, my aunt was listening to Something and Cry baby cry, and I fell in love with those songs, but I never got to listen to the rest of their songs, since my family was a bit more of the local culture song type (I live in South America, and speak spanish, so there were no english songs in my first years of life sadly), it was after some time that my grandma was visiting and told me to listen to one of her brother's favourite band, and that was the first time I heard of The Beatles, she made me listen to Obladi Oblada, The Inner Light, Don't let me down and She loves you. She downloaded (not that legally) some songs and left me listening to them, but I was not that into music back then. When I was 13 my love for music started, and when I tried to find the beatles on TH-cam to listen to them, I never found any song that was not Penny Lane, A day In the Life and Eleanor Rigby (I really want to understand why is it that just three years ago the restriction on the beatles was lifted and I finally got into their discography. My favourite song from them is Because, no real reason, it just somehow is.
Sorry for the long story, as I previously said, I really enjoyed this journey with you (been here since day one) and I'm happy to see that you've enjoyed all of it. I'll see you around for the solo albums. Thanks for making these videos so we can share opinions and tell you facts about the songs.

Oh I know exactly how you are feeling Jesse, because of what my son went through when his dad (my former husband) died on my son's birthday. It's very very hard to deal with and it can put a pall on your birthday. I am so sorry that this also happened to you. Plus losing both parents so close together. But please know that your mom would NOT want you to be sad on your birthday and to celebrate it like you normally would. I have told my son that, but it is still hard for him, even 5 years after his dad died. I will still say "happy BELATED birthday" and my heart goes out to you. As a die hard Beatles fan I have enjoyed watching your reactions to all the Beatles albums and look forward to your reactions to their solo albums as well.

    - "Teddy Boy" (Paul McCartney) recorded on 24 & 28 January 1969. re-recorded by Paul McCartney in February 1970 for his debut solo album.
    - "Mailman, Bring Me No More Blues" (Ruth Roberts, Bill Katz, Stanley Clayton) recorded on 29 January 1969.
    - "All Things Must Pass" (George Harrison) solo demo recorded on 25 February 1969. re-recorded by George Harrison during 1970 for his triple solo album All Things Must Pass.
    - "Come and Get It" (Paul McCartney) solo demo recorded on 24 July 1969 and re-recorded by the band Badfinger in September 1969 for the film The Magic Christian.
...and finally the two 'new tracks' "Free as a Bird" and "Real Love" (also released as singles) which were based on John Lennon's 1977 and 1979 home demos that bandmates Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr completed in the studio in 1994/95.

Now that you have made it through the Beatles catalog, I would suggest that you might want to look up some of their interviews from the 1960s, not to react to them, but just for general interest in getting to understand them better. Their interaction with the press is generally quite humorous and irreverent. No other group was ever on camera with the press more than them because they were always themselves. We loved them for their cheekiness as much as anything. Their press session in Los Angeles from 1966 has some classic stuff in it, especially a McCartney response to a Time Magazine critique of some of their songs.

My father cooked for & drank with Beatles in Christchurch NewZealand in 1964. My mother only told me a few years ago. One of my earliest childhood memories as a 4 year old in 1970 was of the Beatles breaking up. It was massive news in every newspaper & magazine. I came to love the Beatles music in the 1970's & have ever since been a mad fan. No other band can compete with their genius massive catalogue of songs, the musicianship & their voices. I never get sick of any Beatles song despite that I have heard them hundreds of times. Abbey Road is my favourite Beatles album. It was amazing to see The Beatles inventing some of these songs on the Get Back doco. Thank you for your Beatles A to Z, its been a privilege to watch. You will be impressed with The Beatles individual work.. John & George continue on with massive hits, Ringo chimes in with 2 amazing songs, but Paul especially carries on an as if the Beatles never ended. Looking forward to your reactions to these..

Since you asked: Yes, I did see them live, on August 21, 1966, in St Louis, Missouri. It was their second-to-last live show before the "Let It Be" rooftop concert. There was a bonfire outside of Beatles records being burned by protestors angry about Lennon's "more popular than Jesus" comment, as you mentioned in an earlier video.

David, I was also at that show at what was at that time the "new " Busch Stadium. My first concert ever.I couldn't hear them over the girls screaming.Having 19 warmup acts didn't help.Everytime another one came on,somebody would scream"there they are",only to find it was yet another warmup act.I couldnt see them either being that I was out in the bleachers, somewhere, and they were on a tiny portable stage on a trailer somewhere around second base. The rain did not help, being August in St.Louis,it was plenty humid. It was almost 20 years later before I went to another concert. What a let down.Still an unforgettable experience.

I’m curious to know your favorite/least favorite song, album, and other personal tastes about the Beatles’ discography.
You seemed to favor their later recordings from Rubber Soul on.
It seems the older generations prefer the early albums because they weren’t jaded and had more of an optimism. Plus, it’s probably because they grew up with them and idealize that era.
Younger generations (me included)seem to like the later releases from Rubber Soul on. I favor later ones because they are more mature and sophisticated sounding.
    My top three are
    The white album
    Abbey Road
    Revolver
Happy birthday to you. I don’t know if you covered it, but one of the things john and Paul bonded over was both losing their mothers at almost the same time. Paul’s mother had breast cancer (as did his first wife), John’s mother was hit by an (allegedly drunk) driver. They lost them as teenagers.

I was 10 years when they came to my city on tour in Australia 1964. The State population was 600,00 , they have the record of 300,000 people coming into town to see them. The highway from airport to hotel was 5 deep. I was too young and played slot cars with radio listening to the commentary. Ringo wasn't there, he had tonsillitis. They used stand in UK drummer Jimmy Nichol who was blown away being in the Beatles circle, the madness, the energy. He said it ruined him. John and Paul would often ask him how he felt he was coping, to which his reply would always be “It’s getting better.” The phrase inspired the song on Sgt Peppers. He played 4 concerts was paid $50,000 and a gold watch. He said it ruined him. Complaining he could no longer cope with the “mediocrity of life”, Nicol, walked out of his London flat three years after that remarkable winter’s day in Adelaide and effectively disappeared for the next four decades.
