- What Apps Are Available On The Latest 2.0 Mayhem Firmware? Let's See! HackRF: Already An Amazing Radio Device. Add In Portapack, And You Have A Portable SIGINT / Wireless Ethical Pentest Station.
Whether you are interested in a handheld radio, an avid Ham operator, or want to try ethical pentesting on your car (really), the HackRF provides all that the Flipper zero offers, with additional capabilities
HackRF is considered an advanced device - may not be the right 'toy' for everyone.
If looking to try SDR, my recommendation is going with an RTL-SDR Blog V3 / V4. The rtl-sdr is a perfect place to start, and can listen to nearly as much range as HackRF, with greater clarity.
If the goal is listening to shortwave radio, an rtl-sdr is the right option.
If a cybersecurity / SIGINT professional, hackRF could be a nice option, for your next device purchase
The HackRF is something I mostly recommend to experienced linux users - it's not "beginner friendly" - unless you buy a completed kit with firmware ready to use. Even then, familiarity with Linux commandline is strongly encouraged.
With the Portapack / HackRF, you have countless options for playing with the spectrum. From 1 MHz, all the way up to 6 GHz.
Share the video to educate, spread awareness, and help strengthen the networks upon which transparency / journalism depend.
We have seen various stories over the years, millions and millions of dollars invested into trying to break the privacy / security / anonymity of innocent people around the world.

**Couple commenters brought to my attention:** I mispoke early in video, accidentally said "SIM Card", meaning to say microsdcard - since I record (everything) without a script, once in a while the wrong word comes out, and don't always notice before rendering -- **There is no SIM card slot, only microsdcard, on portapack H2.**
By FAR, you have the most informative videos on the Hack RF one especially after the new 2.0 mayhem update. Thank you so much. Please keep these videos comming brother!
Hey that means a lot to hear. Thank you! Planning to cover more. :)
A very informative video. Thank you.
Appreciate that. Thank you!
Version 2 is a massive upgrade. There should be much more coming now that things are stored on the SD card and it will be much easier to update and add apps.
Absolutely. Exciting to see the expansion. Opens up possibilities!
looks like sci-fi movie gadgets
love to watch your videos
♥♥🙏🙏🙏
It is a fun new one for me. Nice having you here, and thanks for watching.
I’m very very critical of all youtube channels. I gotta say your channel Rocks!!
I really do appreciate that!
I think you mean you are very complementary ?!
that is true on the key fob. however if you try the same code multiple times it may lock the system preventing the true fob from working and require the dealer to replace the ecm
Ahh, that is good to know / interesting. Thanks for sharing!
You did a great job!
Thank you, really appreciate that! :)
This is awesome.
It was exciting updating the latest firmware to see what new toys arrived
Nice,
The video is nice and descriptive. I have been wanting to buy this device for a long time, but it is too expensive for me.
Appreciate the feedback. It really is a fun little radio testing toy. Looking forward to getting a case for it and playing with some of these apps. They are sold all over, at a range of prices, if you can't afford official.
Great video! Your accent sounds like you may be from off 309. I'm off 73. Anyway, I put Mayhem 2.0.1 on my HRF and I'm not seeing all those apps. I wanted the fox hunt app but that and some of the others are not in my update. Any ideas? Thanx!
Thanks for the feedback! :)
You need to extract the mayhem for sdcard into the mounted sdcard after formatting fat32 (this is key).
Some of the new apps reside on this sdcard.
@@RTPTechTips Thank you so much for responding quickly! All is working and I can resume my Friday night playing with my new HackRF as planned!
Yess. glad things working out! Let us tx / rx on. 😎 📡
If I use it with _GNU Radio Companion_ on a laptop, is there a way to upload the _"radios"_ I create so that they will run natively on the Portapack with a computer connected?
haven't heard of anyone working on this, but if I see any hacks related, will share. Thanks for your comment / question!
I meant to say *_"withOUT_*_ a computer connected"._
There is KeyFop in the new v2.0 menu (Transmit>KeyFob). But only Subaru's key data is available. Where can I find data for other brands?
I saw that! Haven't had a chance to play with that yet, but if I find some resources for you, will reply again.
It's a flaw in Subarus, not in other cars so that data don't exist. Not until you yourself create it and contribute something to the community @kursadzeybek356
You both should read the documentation in the repo, it clearly explains all I said and more. RTFM
Create your own captures.
Your my lil porta pack.

Can you tune the frequency and listen on analogue and digital or just analogue?
All depends - you can "listen" to everything - but understand / listen to voice analogue out of the box.
There are portapack apps designed to decode some forms digital. For the HackRF, there are also apps for computer that offer decoding.
can you listen to other near by cell phone calls?
Not normally / directly. None of the applications are designed to do this.
If You change card higher speed card then software is also faster?
Read / write speeds may increase, if you started with a sluggish sdcard.
Not sure what type of increase you are looking for, but the radio hardware itself will always have some limitations.
@7:15 that's why we grow up and buy superior full duplex SDRs with multiple trabsmit and receive ports.
Eventually, would like to get a USRP BladeRF, though the hackrf and portapack is undeniably very useful, especially for any on a budget.
its not a sim card , it is an SD card
100% correct. I pinned a comment correcting this. I don't use a script and sim card slipped out while speaking off the cuff.
And thanks for the comment!
Can the device do decoding.
what kind of decoding are we talking about? For example, there is a pager receiving app that can work on that protocol.
Many types of apps can / are written for various things.
And with apps moving into sdcard space, looks like there is going to be plenty of room for more. 😁
Can you hack drones with this, like DJI mavic mini or 2
If asking if you can perform ethical pentesting / security analysis to check for vulnerabilities, you can interact with any compatible spectrum radio devices, including drones.
How much interaction, all depends on the protocols, the programs / decoding, and goal (wifi, cellular, all depends).
To relate to existing ideas on portapack / drones, someone filed an issue / enhancement idea, asking to track drones in similar fashion to the adsb map: github.com/portapack-mayhem/mayhem-firmware/issues/1773
I did not know you could receive tire pressure 😂
Hey, and when it seems the world broadcasts everything else wirelessly, why not. More things I didn't get to mention but will cover.😁 Fun little device.
SIM card?
Asking if it offers a sim card slot? It only has the sdcard slot built into the Portapack add-on.
However, the HackRF is very versatile, and was designed to accept new modules - like Portapack, something could be built for hackRF with that as a hypothetical option.
Not directly related, but I do plan to make some more interesting content on set ups, some hardware related.
My comment relates to your opening remarks, where you mention a SIM card. I think you mean SD card.
@@PhilipChandler Aha! I just listened to it again and heard it. Definitely meant sdcard. ;)
Lol. "Hyper bowl"
I tell you I always break out that old, bad habit when recording off the cuff LOL.. Good ear.
A SIM card is to get a cell signal. I think you mean SD Card.
Yep. Mispoke there. Caught it after uploading.
U should add text caption cause after 3 sec im wondering if u know what ur talking about
@@b20inside Haha yeah unknowingly said aloud the word "sim card", instead of sdcard without even thinking about it (similar card size).
Speaking 'off the cuff', without script.
EDIT: maybe I can find a youtube option to add text - haven't really played with TH-cam editing much.
Thanks for the suggestion.
