"Perfect Cell is so smug" well, if you had the genetc makeup of Vegeta and Freeza WITH the power to back up his talk... You'd be smug too.
Although he didn't really, and it got him killed.
In his buff form Trunk's power rivals if not surpasses perfect Cell's own.
But as Goku was going on about, the form causes such a drastic decrease in speed and mobility that the power it comes with is worthless.
Yes it surpasses the strength with the 'Balance' that Cell has, but as he demonstrates if he were to use all his power to do the same, he'd surpass Trunks' strength while matching his form.
Draconicus the Reaper Indeed. If someone is strong enough that you need the power boost of this form, then they are also fast enough to evade any move you can make in this form.
@@OnimaruAnji doesn't Cell say himself that the form surpasses even his own in power? I think it was in the manga.
Where he said the form surpasses his own power by a bit but it isn't useful as power is all it has. Cell on the other hand, while a bit weaker in power compared to the form, had a perfect balance so he was more stronger overall compared to Trunks.
At least that's what I remember he said.
@@Talon102-db7nk He does say that in the anime as well (at least the original Funimation version). I don't recall exactly how he says it, I believe he outright admits at some point that if the fight came down to power alone, then he wouldn't stand a chance against Trunks. However, because of the decrease in speed, all that power meant nothing.
12:50 I know this is late... by a LOT... but everything Cell listed as an achievement by Goku: all true... although with how often the moon explodes that rabbit is very dead.
But to be fair, if somebody's never seen Dragon Ball, it makes perfect sense to assume that last one is bogus.
If anyone was really saying that that solar flare with Cell, and 18 was less sexual than what happened in the show they clearly have never seen that full image, lol.

It doesn't matter how strong you are if you can't hit the opponent.
So the form that Trunks had is called Super Saiyan Third Grade. It’s a step up from the form Vegeta was using against Semi-Perfect Cell, which is called Super Saiyan Second Grade.
These forms are sort of in-between Super Saiyan 1 and 2, with Second Grade essentially being Super Saiyan 1.5 and Third Grade being Super Saiyan 1.75.
Like Goku said, Third Grade’s power increase is outstanding, and it’s fairly likely it put Trunks on par with Perfect Cell, at least in terms of raw power. However, Goku also notes that the amount of power surging through the user’s body causes their muscles to expand exponentially, thus slowing them down dramatically. Basically, the power increase, and the form itself by extension, was useless if the opponent was now too fast to hit.
It’s because of this speed drawback that the form doesn’t take get used at all anymore. In fact, it’s part of the reason Vegeta skipped Super Saiyan 3 entirely. People meme about it, but Vegeta never attained Super Saiyan 3 because of just how much strain it places on the body, opting instead to using the Super Saiyan God forms. Goku himself even hardly uses Super Saiyan 3 nowadays because the strain it puts on his body is too great to justify using it.
Which makes sense when you consider how that strain on power nearly cost them everything when fighting Kid Buu. Their situation was made considerably worse because at the time, Goku underestimated just how much Super Saiyan 3 drained him because he hadn't extensively used it before with a living body. And we then saw the results of that realization in Super and GT, where he uses the form with extreme reservation. Now with a fuller understanding of its risks. If I recall, there was even a moment in Super where he outright states that Super Saiyan 3 is only worth the expenditure of energy if used with certainty that the power boost will be enough to swiftly defeat the opponent. Otherwise it'll wind up doing more harm than good in the long run.
@@gurvmlk I always wondered why Goku never trained his body to acclimate to Super Saiyan 3’s strain like he did with Super Saiyan and the Super Saiyan God forms. But then it dawned on me that the strain on Goku’s body while in Super Saiyan 3 is simply too great to acclimate to.
Which really puts into perspective just how draining Super Saiyan 3 really is. Goku can use the forms that put him on the same level as the highest tier of gods in his multiverse longer than he can use the highest tier transformation exclusive to his own race.
@@Purechaos61 I assume that's probably because of the divine energy involved. Super Saiyan God is more transcendent in that it essentially turns one into a demi-god, which perhaps inherently includes a level of acclimation due to how it affects the body. Whereas Super Saiyan 3 has no similar effect on the body, but still puts tremendous pressure on it. All that power is needing to be maintained by a still purely mortal body, as opposed to one that has achieved a lower level of godhood by the divine mutation of its ki.
I think a better question is: why use Super Saiyan 3 at all? Super Saiyan God is more powerful, and puts less strain on the body. I get him using it in the Tournament of Power to demonstrate it to the other universe's saiyans, but any other situations in which he used it after acquiring Super Saiyan God just leave one wondering why bother.
@@gurvmlk I think Goku, despite knowing how disadvantageous Super Saiyan 3 is, still considers it an important milestone. This is probably why he showed it off to Trunks, Kale, and Caulifla.
Super Saiyan 3 is, currently, the peak of a Saiyan’s natural power. And while the Super Saiyan God forms are far more practical, I think Goku believes that Saiyans should still aim for Super Saiyan 3.
This is most notable during his fight/training session with Kale and Caulifla. He shows them Super Saiyan 3, and instills within them the goal of reaching it to attain new heights and grow stronger, which Goku himself firmly believes in.
That could be why Goku still occasionally uses Super Saiyan 3, if for no other reason than to surprise his opponent with an increase in power without using the God forms.
@@Purechaos61 Especially if we consider that in the Battle of Gods movie (I don't recall if he brought this up in Super), Goku stated to Beerus that he hated how the SSG transformation relied on others, rather than having been achieved through his own power. Which didn't sit well with a man who's dedicated his entire life to growing stronger himself, only to then be presented with a form that he could never achieve on his own. Whereas, as you said, Super Saiyan 3 is the pinnacle of his own power. Which could perhaps give that form a sentimentality to Goku, in a sense.
To be fair to Trunks, he has a lot of experience fighting for his life, what he lacks is formal instruction as even his mentor wasn't as taught as Gohan is in the current timeline (and we get to see with the scene with Goku that Gohan would have made the same mistake) and Vegeta is clearly not a teacher.
And yet there's one edge Trunks holds above all the rest. He doesn't have the mentality of a martial artist. His entire life has been about fighting to survive, so he sees no sport in it like the others. So while he lacks formal experience and wisdom, he knows better than any of the other Z-Fighters how to cut straight to getting the job done. Save for maybe Piccolo.

I doubt you will read this given how long ago this was made and you might already know but the thing is in the real show goku isn't actually THAT dumb. definitely naive but not a total moron and he as always been an absolute genius when it comes to fighting.

"Careful, don't want that gift horse to bite you" is a play on the expression "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth". Basically Cell was saying that Trunks got a massively lucky break and was questioning why instead of being grateful for it.

The form Vegeta used is super Saiyan grade 2 aka super Vegeta and the one trunks used is super Saiyan grade 3 aka ultra trunks. There is also grade 4 aka perfect super Saiyan which is basically super Saiyan 1 but better
