So, it's not the first movie they did. But I think they numbered them in chronological order? I think the first one they did was Christmas Tree of Might, which is why it's split into two parts, because of the old TH-cam time limit.
Correct, Dead Zone takes place before Tree of Might, making it "the first movie" but TFS did Tree of Might sooner, partially because Lani had made a Dead Zone abridged before TFS formed, they went back to do another one later.
@VegetaLF7 They did World's Strongest too. They had Lani and Masako at the very least, but it was a lot more mean-spirited than DBZA ultimately became. You can find them under "Neighborhood Cluck" productions. It's why they started with Tree of Might; they had already done the first two and only went back after feeling they had utterly eclipsed every level of those old videos.
In-universe, Dead Zone was a movie pitch Krillin made after the Namek thing. The movie got picked up, but Krillin got screwed over and got nothing from the movie, which ended up being a hit.
The novel you're thinking of that stars Sun Wukong is Journey to the West. (Which you should totally react to Overly Sarcastic Productions' videos on it when a weekly slot opens up) Garlic Jr and his minions Nicky, Ginger and Sansho are demons who are named after spices. Nicky (Nikki) being the Japanese word for Cinnamon, Sansho being a type of pepper, and Ginger is obviously named after hibiscus blossoms. Fun fact, these three actually possess the first transformations ever released in the franchise. _Dead Zone_ predates Zarbon's first appearance in the manga by a good 3 months, and it took another 3 before he revealed he could transform.
Garlic Jr: technically the only dragon ball character that wished for immortality that was a villain and managed to successfully do that apart from Zamasu in dragon Ball super but that's another story entirely. His species is call makyo they're a race of demons that live on earth garlic Junior's father wound up fighting kami for the right to be the guardian of earth but lost and then summoned a demon army and then was banished to the dead zone or to an eternal prison and garlic Juniors been wanting revenge ever since.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. This move takes place in the five minutes between Goku introducing Gohan to his friends and Raditz showing up.
It's a testament to the creative genius of TFS that as soon as I saw Kirby's reaction in the intro, I knew the scene without her even finishing her reaction. Which I believe is pretty much everyone's reaction in that scene. And the final one with Napa.
It's definitely not the first movie they have made, it's one of the latest ones. I think it could be first movie of the original movies, since it seems to be set in right before start of DBZ. Also it's perfectly fine watching Kai 2.9 right after episode 31, because it only abridges the Garlic Jr arc that the main series just completely skips over since that arc was so bad and filler-like in original, and doesn't spoil anything beyond that.
Okay but consider: King Piccolo (our Piccolo's dad/previous incarnation) was known as the 'King of Demons' but was really a Namekian. Therefore, because Garlic Jr. looks quite a bit like Piccolo, we can assume that he, or rather his lineage, was originally spawned (literally, Namakians reproduce asexually remember?) by King Piccolo. Also, Garlic Jr. is rather pale compared to either Piccolo. In conclusion: Garlic Jr. is actually an albino Namakian XD
The Huckleberry Finn joke gets called back at the end of season 2 when Gohan is back to schoolwork and he complains that he already read a book and Chi-Chi says this version has the N-word removed.
Huh, you two could watch *Overly Sarcastic Production Journey to the West* Part 1. It explains not only Monkey King, Sun Wukong but also how strong and terrifying being he is when he gets angry.
Garlic Jr is a Makyan ( natives of the Makyo Star) he comes back after the namek saga in a filler arc before the android saga. The makyans are extinct because of Gohan
The kami/piccolo death connection I somewhat shown in season 1 as well as the entire reason for season 2 as Tien explained when yamcha and king Kai thought goku died
Gohan reading what I presume is Huckleberry Finn is a reference to Gohan, in some other DBZA special, saying "but I already have Huckleberry Finn," with Chi Chi responding "yes, but this one has the N word taken out." BTW, this movie is supposed to be a prequel to DBZA episode 1. I say supposed to because if you treat them as part of the DBZ storyline, they don't make sense as to exactly when they happen because of plot holes. Take this movie for example. This is supposed to predate episode 1 of DBZ, but at one point in this movie Goku goes to Kame house and tells Bulma and Krillin that Gohan has been kidnapped. If Bulma and Krillin knows about Gohan in this movie, it doesn't make sense why they're surprised Goku has a son in episode 1.
While Dead Zone was the first chronological Dragonball Z movie, this isnt TeamFourStar's first Abridged movie. That honor goes to (Christmas) Tree of Might. There is a version of Dead Zone some of the team had abridged before forming TFS, but this is not that version(this all also applies to World's Strongest Abridged)
@18:21 I'm not super knowledgeable on this one, especially cuz iirc alot of it is just retconned at this point.... But, before the nammek saga, piccolo, kami, and garlic Jr's gang were all considered to be demon class races. With piccolo and kami now confirmed to be namekian, I'm about 70% sure that makes garlic and garlic junior some subset of namekian, as well... But, if I also remember correctly, garlic and garlic Jr both grabbed minions from the demon realm (which would theoretically be stronger than the average namekian... I guess. It's extremely hard to tell, cuz they rarely if ever talk about that aspect of this world. It should be noted, Buu is part demonic, via absorbing several different high ranking demons well before his introduction. That particular fact, along with him absorbing the God race that the kais come from, that made him so unkillable, along with his "majin/genie" background.) The demon race is implied to be as strong as the god/Kai race, if not stronger... But, these minions seem to be exceptionally weak, if the above all happens to be true. Garlic Jr (and by extention, garlic, whom iirc, we never actually meet....? I think? It might have been an exclusive thing in Japan for original dragonball, I really don't know myself.) those two are generally considered to be the same race as kami though, which would be namekian. Or some sub race therein.... I think, at least. *the problem is, the movie itself isn't considered Canon, so iirc, they never really circle back to address wtf these dudes are.*
Oh, I should also mention, based on what extremely scant info I could find: the deadzone, as well as any other demon related lore, is still considered Majin buu level threats to this day... I. E. The dead zone should be able to hold anyone of similar strength to Majin buu, whom is among the most naturally strong races in the universe/omniverse. Theoretically, it may also hold, or at least slow down, a destruction God as well... Idk tbqh tho. But a technique loosely tied to lore from the deadzone Era of the story, applied by master roshi, was considered strong enough to hold off other similar threats in the universe tournament.... My point being some of this stuff is still considered strong enough to effect the destruction gods/majin/demon/angels/etc presently talked about. (edit: with the above said... It should be noted, garlic Jr, post immortality, should still be in deadzone to this day. So it stands that it can hold immortal level beings within the DB lore, if truely nothing else.... It's not a trifling, nor outdated, mechanic, is my general point with this edit.)
Okay, from what I recall about Garlic Jr. and his Daddy - Garlic is old as fuck (Kami's around at least 300 years old). As old as Kami, because the entire story's that Garlic and Kami (back when Kami didn't have a name, I legit think he's just referred to as the Namekian) competed for the position of Kami, under the guidance of the previous (non-Kami, the Namekian) Kami. The old Kami discovered that Garlic had evil plans or something (maybe he just sensed he was evil, I honestly can't remember; I saw the original film in 2007 and haven't seen it since. Which is ridiculous because I actually own it, along with the rest of the movies, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z), chose Namekian-Kami to take his place as the new Kami and because Garlic was a dick, he gathered up some demons, attacked the Lookout (I think? Either the Lookout or the old Kami himself) and the Old Kami sealed Garlic and his minions in the Dead Zone (and holy shit, would it have killed them to have given Namekian-Kami an actual name? Jeebus). But apparently before that he had Garlic, Jr., his son, and for whatever reason Junior decided he took offense to his Papa being sealed away for all time. So he went and pulled all this to try and avenge his father. As for _why_ Garlic Jr. opened the Dead Zone . . . uh, technically the movie was released in 1989. July of '89 in fact, so . . . . . . . . . blame 1980s movie making, where the bad guys usually have the collective intelligence of an angry middle school student. "You trapped my father in the Dead Zone!" "Yeah, but he raised a demon army against the current god and was gonna kill him. Then enslave the humans, presumably, too." "It's your fault I had no father and it's your fault he's in there, suffering forever!" "Wow, it's like he completely ignored everything I just said." Basic villain stuff. Everything's everyone else's fault because how could the villain possibly understand that maybe he and his Dad are dicks. Anyways, great reaction as always! You two are an absolute delight to watch to start with and it's always way too fun seeing people take in DBZA for the first time. I'll also back up Duck. There is no way to be prepared for season three - aside from things like the overall quality skyrocketing, Team Four Star really coming into themselves as entertainers . . . shit's wild, from start to finish, is all I'll say.
Garlic jr a demon. Demons do existed in the dragon ball world. As do vampires and other monsters. Original dragon ball was more fantasy, while Z and after was became more sci-fi.
Incontinent means having bladder control problems. It also can refer to bowels. If you ever see Life of Brian, people love the Incontinentia Buttocks joke.
there's been a lot of theories about what garlic junior is, tfs abridged i think attributed to one of them being that garlic junior would be an "albino namekian" something that in kind was a reference to i believe dc's Martians. This theory has gained some efforts and foot holds given super hero's movie giving piccolo a new form that actually is similar to junior's hulking form just a lot stronger and a different color. This is of course just a theory, a fan theory as for a canon explanation i am not aware of anything confirmed but its possible toriyama or some game specified what he is
They're TV specials instead of proper movies but still tend to get included, but History of Trunks and Bardock: Father of Goku were also the ones considered canon too.
1:36 WRONG - dead zone was the first DBZ official movie The first movie TFS abridged was 3 - Christmas tree of might. They did this movie for when they hit 1million subs And they did the 2nd film for 2million
So wait. Shenlong cant grant wishes beyond his power. He couldnt for example wish for Freeza to die, because he was so strong. So when he makes someone immortal, that should mean someone like Freeza would still be able to kill you.
No that isn’t how that works granting immortality doesn’t exceed Shenron’s power. Also do you even know the actual limitations on the Dragon Balls? One of Shenron’s actual limitations is that he is unable to grant wishes that kill people at all. The whole thing in the Saiyan Saga where Oolong suggested that they should wish for Shenron to kill the Saiyans only for Shenron to reply that he couldn’t because they were stronger than Kami and thus beyond his ability to kill was a English Dub mistranslation. In the original Japanese Version what Shenron actually said is he couldn’t because when Kami made the Dragon Balls he also made it so Shenron would be unable to grant wishes to kill people. Sorry that was so long but unfortunately it had to be to get the point across.
Damn I never saw this movie before now. Krillin got screwed out of all that money? Boy man, the more things change... And who DOES get the credit for the Garlic Jr. kill? Well if I'm right, it's not who you think. Can't wait for the next episode.

Well not everyone had the same reaction. I'm sure there are some people are in to that kind of stuff.
@@fireball1249 And others actually pay for it.
Well, they technically did Abridged the first 2 Movies before they became TFS. They were called "Neighborhood Cluck Productions".
18:11 demon, Garlic Jr and his men are demons. Dragon ball hardly ever talks about the demons but they exist
Besides the first episode this is the only time he actually cared about his son
Okay but consider: King Piccolo (our Piccolo's dad/previous incarnation) was known as the 'King of Demons' but was really a Namekian. Therefore, because Garlic Jr. looks quite a bit like Piccolo, we can assume that he, or rather his lineage, was originally spawned (literally, Namakians reproduce asexually remember?) by King Piccolo.
Also, Garlic Jr. is rather pale compared to either Piccolo.
In conclusion: Garlic Jr. is actually an albino Namakian XD
When I was in 7Th Grade we of curse didn't read Huckleberry Finn, but we did watch How to Kill a Mockingbird I remember one scene
The Huckleberry Finn joke gets called back at the end of season 2 when Gohan is back to schoolwork and he complains that he already read a book and Chi-Chi says this version has the N-word removed.
This movie bestowed the phrase "I am 110% DONE!" into me.
20:42 oh my god, Nappa is Diddy
Now I'm stepping into the Twilight zo~one. This is a madhouse, feels like being home.
Nobody stays dead in Dragon Ball. Except Raditz. And Nappa.
Huh, you two could watch *Overly Sarcastic Production Journey to the West* Part 1. It explains not only Monkey King, Sun Wukong but also how strong and terrifying being he is when he gets angry.
Plus OSP in general is just fantastic
@@VegetaLF7 That too!
@@VegetaLF7ABSOLUTELY!

Garlic Jr is a Makyan ( natives of the Makyo Star) he comes back after the namek saga in a filler arc before the android saga. The makyans are extinct because of Gohan

You know.. that meal between DI-nner and brea-KFAST.
Garlic and his minions are all demons. They're named after spices.
The kami/piccolo death connection I somewhat shown in season 1 as well as the entire reason for season 2 as Tien explained when yamcha and king Kai thought goku died
So Garlic Jr.s "This means War" comment is a reference to Daffy Duck. He used to say that alot in old school Loony toons
Now that I think about it, the Dead Zone wasn't the only way to defeat Garlic Jr. They could of trapped him in a ricer cooker.
Gohan reading what I presume is Huckleberry Finn is a reference to Gohan, in some other DBZA special, saying "but I already have Huckleberry Finn," with Chi Chi responding "yes, but this one has the N word taken out."
BTW, this movie is supposed to be a prequel to DBZA episode 1.
One thing I never understood is *_Why is their a ceiling fan outside in a forest?_*

While Dead Zone was the first chronological Dragonball Z movie, this isnt TeamFourStar's first Abridged movie. That honor goes to (Christmas) Tree of Might.
There is a version of Dead Zone some of the team had abridged before forming TFS, but this is not that version(this all also applies to World's Strongest Abridged)
the ending with nappa is the ONLY REASON she couldn't watch this during season 1 or 2
Exactly!
It may be a bit of a long video but could you react to the history of the Nuzlocke
Also, this was when they dropped "old man" Kami and went with this version
That particular fact, along with him absorbing the God race that the kais come from, that made him so unkillable, along with his "majin/genie" background.)
The demon race is implied to be as strong as the god/Kai race, if not stronger...
I don't think Garlic Jr. thought about the implications......
So I’ve been hella sick lately, and just have been watching some of your episodes while I’m in bed. Your videos always put me in a good mood.
If you think these misfit minions are great, wait till you meet Garlic's next set of minions. Especially Vinnie ;)

Thanks for uploading this video
"You trapped my father in the Dead Zone!"
"Yeah, but he raised a demon army against the current god and was gonna kill him. Then enslave the humans, presumably, too."
"It's your fault I had no father and it's your fault he's in there, suffering forever!"
"Wow, it's like he completely ignored everything I just said."
Basic villain stuff.
This movie takes place before the first episode with radits

Garlic jr a demon. Demons do existed in the dragon ball world. As do vampires and other monsters. Original dragon ball was more fantasy, while Z and after was became more sci-fi.
Incontinent means having bladder control problems. It also can refer to bowels. If you ever see Life of Brian, people love the Incontinentia Buttocks joke.
Most uses of the word refer to a lack of bladder control.

Wait how can you tell??
there's been a lot of theories about what garlic junior is, tfs abridged i think attributed to one of them being that garlic junior would be an "albino namekian" something that in kind was a reference to i believe dc's Martians.

This movie was actually the only one that was considered Cannon with the series before battle of god ever came out.
They're TV specials instead of proper movies but still tend to get included, but History of Trunks and Bardock: Father of Goku were also the ones considered canon too.
1:36 WRONG - dead zone was the first DBZ official movie
The first movie TFS abridged was 3 - Christmas tree of might.
They did this movie for when they hit 1million subs
And they did the 2nd film for 2million
That Paul Lynde voice.
