    Mine is over 45 years old, still works great. Lots of ditches to mow on my Florida farm. We use it on a row crop John Deere 3020, you sit up high and can easily see into the ditch. We also connected the deck cylinder to the tractor remote. The lever is right beside the seat arm and you can just bump the deck up and down to follow the ditch couture. No need to grind the blades into the dirt, that just wears out the blades and motor.

    fun video, Tim! Some of my most enjoyable times are when I'm back out at our family farm in eastern North Dakota. Christie looks like she might be reliving some of her childhood days on the farm.

    That mower really is able to angle sharply to follow that ditch contour! Awesome.

  • @crslyrn
    @crslyrn 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    He has a nice set up there. The best part is that the tractor stays on the level ground when mowing the steep angle of the ditch. Those mowers are pretty pricey but, that's the price you have to pay to keep steep areas mowed off & still be safe. Stay safe.

  • @semco72057

    That is a nice mower for that kind of work, and the local, and state government agencies probably buy the majority of those mowers since they need them for mowing along roads, and highways.

      It is a 45-50hp tractor. 3 cyl diesel. He really likes it.
      He has the 110TLB for loader type work, so he uses the 3930 for normal 'tractor stuff'.
      Like you, I noticed that it really did sound nice.

    Tim, we need one built for the 1 series. With my hills I could use one. I wouldn't have to get right up next to the fence that way. Save wear and tear on the ROPs. I've looked at some different systems out there but they haven't made one yet for the 1 series. Maybe Purdue could make one and the students that help make it would get extra credit. Wouldn't have to be heavy duty for what we want to use it for. Aluminum maybe. They make pick ups with it. Hyd. tank on the other side from the mower deck for weight, a little lower down. Lite weight rams strong enough to do the job. I'm liking this idea. To bad I can't weld. Think you might have lost the battle on the berries. :-)

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +mi2tn I'd love the berries too. I looked up the weight. It is 1356lb for the mower we showed. A 3 ft mower would be much lighter...and probably require less hydraulic fluid. It would seem like the hydraulic tank could be used as the slide out counter balance rather than a separate cast iron weight. I think we could make it work! I think we would have enough horsepower, it is just stability that is in question.

    That would mak mowing ditches a dream, but i'll bet it puts a lot of strain on the connections to the tractor. I used to just pull down into the ditch and then come right out because i did not like the precarious angle it put the tractor in. Nothing is scarier than a 20,000 pound tractor leaning at a acute angle and the only thing keeping on its feet is the inboard rear wheel hitting the opposite side of the ditch. More often than not, I ran out of guts and would straddle the ditch with both rear wheels on the slope of the ditch and try to figure out a way to get of my predicament. Whichever way I went was gradual you can bet on that😆

    I grew up on a grain farm in Saskatchewan in the 70's where 1200 acres was the upper side of average - I've always wondered how big a typical tobacco farm is?

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really can't help you. There have been so many changes in recent years. There isn't nearly as much tobacco grown in eastern NC as there used to be.

    You need to get Johnny a plow and some friends and do a plow day.

    • @TractorTimewithTim
      @TractorTimewithTim  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be fun. I haven't seen many 'plow days' with the sub-compacts. Usually just the garden tractors. Would be fun.
      Unfortunately, the family doesn't plow much anymore, so I'm not sure they would be happy with us plowing even my own ground!
