    Rich, I have just spent the last couple of weeks binge watching your videos, love the channel. You, Adam and Mick are a great team and your quality of work is great. I wished you worked just North of Stafford as I have as bungalow refurb, loft conversion, garage rebuild with en suite over I would love your team to work on when I finally get the plans completed.

    We don’t have to use vented soffit as we use breathable membrane building control are happy with that

    I’ve got to wait another 5 hours!!!! Wife and I have a second viewing of a property this morning and if the move happens I won’t be doing what you are. But a fair amount at my age. Be good to see if Brad will be making an appearance again. 😮 Regards Mike

    What I do is cut that fascia ends back 45mm and put a 6x2 on pin the soffit to it and put the back of soffit on to the brick then fascia on the 6x2 it keeps it straighter than cutting the ends off

    What about cavity tray above abutment and lead flashing, was that mandatory?

    Great videos, your work is spot on, quick question, why do you put a barge board on one side and not the other, also why has the one side got a ladder frame and the other side hasn't , or did I miss that?

      Thanks Philip. The only reason is to try and a match up with the existing house on the RHS elevation which is traditional with the tile detail at the gutter level. 👍🏻

    What do you think of cross battening for breather membrane ?

    • @ComeWhatThey
      @ComeWhatThey ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only necessary with overboarding on the roof, without you can drape the membrane between the rafters slightly which deals with the same issue. I guess it would let you fit more insulation between the rafters but it depends where you have more space, you'll probably want to insulate under anyway to prevent cold bridging.

    It's odd how you are using cappit board instead of jambo board for the fascia as the cappit board needs timber behind it to give it strength plus why is the first course of tiles dipping down not sure you guys know what your doing but it's still interesting to watch how not to do it properly

    • @mrabuilders6723
      @mrabuilders6723  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris and thanks for the comment but I’m not sure you know how to spell right or how to pay attention to videos. It’s capping not cappit and Jumbo board not jambo
      Jumbo board has been used along with the correct pins for it and capping board has been used on the barge board where there is a rafter to fix it to. Thanks for watching and have a good evening 👍🏻

    • @chrisaddison8530
      @chrisaddison8530 ปีที่แล้ว

      @MR A BUILDERS thanks for the update ..yes I realised it was jumbo board after I sent the comment ..sorry as for spelling yes i can't spell or read that well but for 54 years young I've got by one way or another ...no hard feelings on the comments bud I do look forward to seeing your videos especially the ones on your own home
      Take care

    New to the channel and love it, is the boiler still on and working in these videos? Just wondering with the flue now being in an area that enclosed, I am gas safe but without ringing them im not exactly sure on the rules with a new build around a flue as i do breakdowns and service work only. Keep the videos coming lads great watching.

      @mrabuilders6723  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mick. The boiler was still at the time of this video but if you continue to watch other episodes we will explain why and how we have had to get around it temporary. In short you Gas engineers or at least the ones that can be trusted to do a good job are like rocking horse poo. We have had to wait longer than expected for ours to get onto site because of materials and other work commitments. Thanks for watching Mick and welcome to the channel👍🏻

    Really enjoying the stuff on your channel (your own house looks like a challenge!) . . . . but a small plea: can you slow down the panning on the camera, it all flashes past too quickly and gets a bit dizzy.

    • @mrabuilders6723
      @mrabuilders6723  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry Rob I am very conscious of the quick panning but I move about that quick normally. Point taken mate I’ll try me best to slow down. Thanks for watching 👍🏻

  • @ComeWhatThey
    @ComeWhatThey ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The state of that lead! No wonder demand for lead alternative products is through the roof. Uh, no pun intended. So much less faff not to have to cut and overlap it too.
    Fwiw that's not an "abutment", abutments are when the side of a roof is against a wall (or chimney). Think the top edge of a lean to roof would just be normal flashing.
    Also bit strange for the sparky to run the cables through an insulated ceiling? Won't they have to be down rated since they'll get a lot hotter than if they were in free air?

    • @justbreakingballs
      @justbreakingballs ปีที่แล้ว

      Very strange the cable things in ceilings very strange indeed. I heard varied reports of water sighted coming out of a tap and an old wives tale of cement being found in mortar too. Strange times.

    • @ComeWhatThey
      @ComeWhatThey ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justbreakingballs No need to be a wanker about it mate just meant because they're going to be putting PIR up there to have it as a vaulted ceiling. Gonna cause issues with fitting the insulation, cold bridging if you leave an air gap and amperage ratings being downgraded for the size of cable.

    • @justbreakingballs
      @justbreakingballs ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ComeWhatThey well it a pretty stupid thing to say. Where would you like the cables to go? Clipping twin and earth where it needs to go doesn't cause issues when you know what you are doing. Also for example lighting cable even if it's 1mm is good for circa 13amp best case. If you have a 6amp overload protection that's already derated by over half. The max correction factor is being 0.5 so it's already derated by above the maximum so run it through rockwool till you are blue in the face. Granted you might need to watch yourself on a 4mm radial with a 32a behind it but to call it strange to be running cables in voids is well strange.

    • @mrabuilders6723
      @mrabuilders6723  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @comewhatthey Hi hope your well and thanks for the comment. I only use the term abutment flashing by way of association because that’s what the manufacturer calls it but I can’t agree or disagree as to what the actual term abutment means in different parts of the country. I was told many years ago that lead where possible should be cut into 1500mm lengths for various reasons including ease of fitting so it just stuck. I can’t imagine how hard it would be to lift a 6m length of code 4 lead up onto that roof. The cables have been clipped in the vented space above the insulation so they don’t get in the way of the 100mm insulation between the rafters so therefore the overheating won’t be an issue. Hopefully I’ve covered all the questions but if not feel free to comment again and I’ll try my best to answer. Thanks for watching. 👍🏻

    • @ComeWhatThey
      @ComeWhatThey ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mrabuilders6723 Think with stuff like leadax you bring it up in a roll and shape it on the roof, no need to cut it to lengths but that could make it a bit more unruly you're right. Started out cheaper than lead but I guess too many people are sick of dealing with lead so the price has shot up. Thanks for the reply!

    so our extension is following the same sort of route with the outside being done before we get started on smashing up the insides
    compared to your other job where you are essentially living above a building site, how much disruption will it have here when you knock through?
    we are planning to move the kitchen to a temporary location into the back room but are wondering how practical this will be for a longer term solution

      Check out Gosforth Handyman's channel, he did a similar thing but talked a bit more about what it's like living around work and how to organise everything. Essentially, the more you can get done before knocking through the better, at the very least you want to be weathertight.
