6:15 that's why I am now doing this part as Super Sonic when it comes to SA Sonic. It's kinda interesting they made a separate mode for it. You can basically change from Final boss control from SA1 to Final boss control from SA2. And that opens so much more paths and breaks those levels in half, like in this case, you're around 7 seconds done.
certified vanilla glazer here, adventure sonic is more like tails or knuckles with regards to routing but i think if anyone gives you shit for beating the game as him they're weird because tails and knuckles exist in the game i DO think you're missing something with how vanilla sonic's thok has the ability to retain momentum if you time your jumps or rolls perfectly, but that's high-level stuff and you can't get into that without liking how the game feels in the first place

Well, since you got into SRB2 mods, here are some things I'll say about mods as a 1 year veteran master the goat godly player. -Your go to for the first level mod would be Emerald Quest. I'm not lying when I say it is the most basic but most fun overall level mod. It has 8 levels and you can complete it in about 40 minutes. And you definitely should play with the Adventure Sonic mod. -I know it's hard to trust when everyone tells you to play with X Sonic, but please don't. At least not until you're into the game for months. It went popular because it had an interesting concept, so non-commentary sonic channels all showcased him which led to him being one of the most popular SRB2 character mods. I don't have the time to list his objective flaws, you can watch JackalMan's videos about him to kinda get the grisp of why it's not that beloved to some people. -Sol Sestancia mods look cool at first, but they're a confusing mess. Instead, I suggest the same creator's Angel Island Tour mod, one of the best SRB2 stage mods. -Don't try OLDC mods now. They have the best levels this series has ever seen, and the worst. It's a gamble to find a good level without knowing what levels to actually play. That being said, great video!
I love how the spindash could be kinda used as a turning Liek with modern except it’s way less slow, which the x sonic mod really showcased, and there’s alot of options for the adventure sonic mod all you gotta do is type out samenu after clicking ‘ and then boom you have Liek a bunch of options for the adventure sonic mod. Also I wanna say this but I think the mods are a way to see how srb2 will be like in the future or the devs full vision of the game
It's really cool you tried out adventure sonic first. He is hands down my favourite modded character because his movement is fluid and feels really good but can still allow you to go really fast without being unruly like other mods such as XSonic. Speaking of other mods, you should try the Chaotix at some point.
I can recommend a couple mods that I've collected trying to replicate the Adventure Sonic physics as best I can, if you'd like. It's not perfect, Adventure Sonic is a lot floatier and has both a higher top speed and more gradual acceleration, but I think I've come up with a good combination of physics and moveset mods that somewhat replicate it.
pretty goated video... a lot of the stuff about base srb2 being a little IFFY i definitely get. i think they're doing a big rework update or something so maybe it will improve some weird segments. if you're looking for a cool character mod down the line i recommend The Chaotix one, heavy and bomb are DOPE!!!

@@SendoDX A good one is Sol Sestancia and it's sequel. It's funny, full of references, and an overall great experience. There's also always the classic: mystic realm, or mystic realm community edition which are direct sequels to srb2. You could also play srb2 06.
I'd argue that most mods for those games are trying to revert the games to their original dreamcast versions, which is more indicative of the quality of the ports rather than the games overall
Honestly, yeah, I had a similiar experience to you with how Sonic feels to control in air, and how Adventure Sonic fixes that. But you said you were interested with maybe base Sonic just with slight tweaks, and for that i recommend air acceleration, and air options. The things they do is pretty small, but what it does to overall control feel in air cannot be understated. Seriously, it is amazing.
i also had issues with the controls (playing with a controller also doesn't help) but putting in air acceleration AND xmomentum helped me out on this game.
HE JUST LIKE ME (my fav mods are also Adventure Sonic and XSonic, btw here's a SASonic tip: If you tap the Spin Button after Thokking, you can do a pseudo air dash, which does leave you uncurled but does preserve momentum better than the base thok.)
I've gotta agree with ya on how mods make SRB2 more fun. If it wasnt for mods, I wouldn't have gotten so invested into it. My favorite mod, the Mario Bros. mod, is one i think you should check out at some point. Imagine if someone took every version of Mario/Luigi, and mashed em into one character pack, along with working powerups too. It can be a bit boring at first since both are slower than your average sonic character, but as long as you know how to move around with em, it makes doing things like speedrunning levels or just replaying the game more fun. I've got three different saves bcuz of how you can play as one of them individually or both at the same time (sorta)
Less giooo! I tend to use two physics mod that quite literally fix the controls so well. First theres AirAcceleration, makes the character less floaty, and air movement better. And classic based physics, which adds the classic based momentum, and speed acceleration is much better. (I would put the link to these mods if i could, but dunno if its allowed lol.) But yea, they just make the game so much better, and all it does is fixes the controls:]
Honestly, Sega should make an official game similar to this, it's be an interesting change of pace. Plus they have been on a roll for making decent/good sonic games again for the most part
i played srb2 and i hated it, but when i played as Mario i started to like it. then i downloaded a physics mod (Classic-Based Physics Changes and all recommended mods) that made sonic better to control and i started to love it so much.
I had a similar experience to you so when I first tried this game it was good but I didn’t get why people said it was the best Sonic fan game until I modded it. Adventure Sonic turns this game to 7/10 to 11/10 (Yes I’m going over the score limit)

God damn, mods really do make this game amazing I was a lot like you until a few days ago (except I think I liked the game on a baseline level a bit more) but then I downloaded the X Sonic mod. It’s difficult, but actually so fun and now I am hopelessly addicted. If you’re looking to try another character mod, X sonic is a huge recommendation of mine

Bro is the #1 SRB2 disser 💀. Jokes aside, SRB2 is a hard game to get used to when it comes to controls and level design, but mods are more traditionally designed and they honestly flow better with the default physics imo.
Mod Wise I’d recommend DC Sonic,BoostMentum and ExtraSpicyMomentum. DC sonic is Dreamcast sonic merged with base sonic. So just sonic but better BoostMentum being a mod that adds the sonic advanced momentum so you get rewarded with higher speed by getting a boost. And ExtraSpicyMomentum making the speed cap higher and slopes send you a lot further.
I'm pretty sure he'll dislike X Sonic. Why? -The fucking jump is delayed -The base moving speed is way too slow, which also removes the game's best feature: Momentum -You can barely control him in his dash move. -Ring Burst is broken, and not in a good way. -He's unplayable in water stages. -Slope jumping and badnik bouncing, as a result of momentum being way too weak on the mod, are absent. Which are the main reasons SRB2 is my favorite Sonic game, surpassing Adventure 1. -Not only that, if you jump on any slope while using the dash move, you come to a complete stop.
I just saw your other video explaining how you dislike the game. I was about to comment on it saying how modding the game can ease you into what is, in my opinion, the best sonic game. I personally think the best way to enjoy the game as a newbie is just playing with all the amazing character mods on all the amazing stage mods that the community makes. So many talented people make extraordinary things for this game and it hasn't slowed down at all. Once you get a feel for the game that way you'll honestly just passively get good at the base game as well. I really hope you continue to mess around with the game because it's truly something special. I'm obviously biased but it's the only video game I have consistently played for the past 15 or so years. Some characters I'd recommend are whisper the wolf, shadow, pointy sonic and fluffy tails, surge, and blaze are all really amazing characters to mess around with that aren't too difficult at all. Check out all the OLDC level packs as well, each of them have some amazing levels to go through. If you don't know OLDC is a level design contest that the community holds each year and its a really awesome event with a bunch of different creators of varying experience. OH Inazuma and Aether mod pack is also extremely impressive and tons of fun as well, definitely check that out! Sorry if that was super rambly and incoherent, im currently laying in bed and not 100% 😂 I just had to comment here because I just love seeing people get into this game especially when they were originally negative. Its like a sandbox for Sonic fans.

Never really been a fan of this game, I prefer a more grounded Sonic game where running or rolling is the number one thing, but in this game it always looked like you can just jump through everything and the jump carries you really far

@@Zerosaber91 I like X Sonic because he feels powerful. Tearing through the sound barrier is fun as all hell with X Sonic, and its sprites compliment all that power perfectly. Additionally, it adds a lot of unique and original features such as the ring burst, dark sonic, Wall running, and the zip dash, which imo is better than the boost. Its super form is easily one of the best on srb2 in general, since it comes with an entire gamemode. It even has references to the anime with little details, like how he'll start floating while attempting the zip dash underwater, or how jumping with the zip dash activated will have you fly into the air at supersonic speeds. Overall I'd give the mod a 9/10. Easily top 3 in my book
My preferred way is going to the EX server, exiting the online lobby and playing the game there. Here is why: -Improved momentum, which is better than XMomentum imo -32 characters and a lot of stages (easily over 100) -Vanilla characters reworked, they COMPLETELY changed Sonic and made Knuckles one of the best characters to play as
yo, if youre willing, I'd recommend you try out *Reveries srb2 physics mod* for yourself. The characters have a better jump, are less slippery, have better air mobility, and have different movesets too. I think you'd like it! 👍
Uhhh no idea 💀 it's definitely a bit of luck with the algorithm pushing smaller creators, but doing fan games helped view counts a lot. Just make sure you're focusing a decent amount of time on thumbnails and titles! they matter a lot

OLDC 2022 R2 has genuinely the best SRB2 levels. Speed Highway and Egg TV Network are fascinating.

You should try the xmomentum mod. It gives a rework on all characters and also adds hyper froms if you have all emeralds.
You can make yourself stop by pulling back the joystick when automatic braking is off.

Never really been a fan of this game, I prefer a more grounded Sonic game where running or rolling is the number one thing, but in this game it always looked like you can just jump through everything and the jump carries you really far

I really can't see why everyone is praising it, if it's because it's really better than 37 character mods I have or because that is the only SRB2 mod to go popular in the last century. Could you give your reasons why you think X Sonic is good? Not attacking opinions, that would be dumb.
@@Zerosaber91 I like X Sonic because he feels powerful. Tearing through the sound barrier is fun as all hell with X Sonic, and its sprites compliment all that power perfectly. Additionally, it adds a lot of unique and original features such as the ring burst, dark sonic, Wall running, and the zip dash, which imo is better than the boost. Its super form is easily one of the best on srb2 in general, since it comes with an entire gamemode. It even has references to the anime with little details, like how he'll start floating while attempting the zip dash underwater, or how jumping with the zip dash activated will have you fly into the air at supersonic speeds. Overall I'd give the mod a 9/10. Easily top 3 in my book
Adventure sonic is the best way to play srb2
My preferred way is going to the EX server, exiting the online lobby and playing the game there. Here is why:
-Improved momentum, which is better than XMomentum imo
-32 characters and a lot of stages (easily over 100)
-Vanilla characters reworked, they COMPLETELY changed Sonic and made Knuckles one of the best characters to play as
yo, if youre willing, I'd recommend you try out *Reveries srb2 physics mod* for yourself. The characters have a better jump, are less slippery, have better air mobility, and have different movesets too. I think you'd like it! 👍
If you really want something cool, use the source code mod version

Uhhh no idea 💀 it's definitely a bit of luck with the algorithm pushing smaller creators, but doing fan games helped view counts a lot. Just make sure you're focusing a decent amount of time on thumbnails and titles! they matter a lot
