“In the wake of Pride, we explore a love story that is, unfortunately, all too common - even in 2019. Kate Austin tells us about how her sexuality was deemed sinful by her family. Kate and her girlfriend Sarah are the faces of what mutual love is, and the respect they have for each other in their relationship is admirable to all - or at least it should be. Instead, it’s been met with disgust by the very people who should be cheering her on the most. We talk about the ups and downs in her journey, and most importantly, the daily strength she exemplifies in order to live a happy life with the new family not only she chooses, but that choose her. This story matters so much with pride month half way through. We can’t forget that stories like this are still prevalent. If you are dealing with someone important in your life who doesn’t accept you based on love… know that you are not alone. You don’t ever have to be. Check out our blog now.” - @hayter25
I love this! And my mom was the only one that didn't accept me for 3 weeks and realized I'm not any different. I got soooo lucky with the family I have. And my mom love my girlfriend emily soooo much. I wished everyone's family just accepted them for who they are.
This story is so similar to my own. How you say you needed to detach for your own mental health was exactly what i had to do and this is the first time iv ever heard anyone put it the way i do. This made me cry, and smile. Thank you for sharing. We are not alone!!! Happy pride month.
Thank you for sharing your story. I remember the struggle I had with coming out 10 years ago. I got the "its just a phase". I definitely felt like i was treated differently by some of my family. I didn't go through being kicked out but the treatment was definitely different. I can say now things are better and I am happily married to my wife for about a year now. I think that the only people that struggle with the fact I am married to a women is my grandparents. I do have to say i wanted to look at the person who told me this is just a phase on my wedding day and say do you think its a phase now? but I didn't.
You’re amazing Kate! Thanks so much for sharing your story. When I had a rocky time coming out to my religious mother two years ago I really looked up to you for inspiration and hope. Thanks for being you! Ps you and Sarah are literally the cutest couple and I hope you have the best pride month ever!! 🌈 🌈 🌈

The year is 2019, What is wrong with that girls mother? She could still show love for her daughter even if she doesn't approve of what she does.
🌈💜💕
Her mother loves her more than you know!
Her mother would never turn her back on her
