    Its unbelievable that she wasn't given the airplay she deserves, this song is proof that she's got what it takes. Sadly it has more to do with who's producing and backing an artist opposed to it depending on actual talent, and this is yet another example. At least we the people know she's got it and thankfully we can enjoy what she's got We love you Danielle♥️

      @@michaelking2582 Respectable points. I would disagree about one thing though. She had been trying to put an album out going back to at least 1987 with no takers. Three years later you run into the holy trinity of B Spears, Backstreet Boys and N'Sync and Danielle wasn't going to be invited to that party which is why I suspect RCA decided to pass on Portable Life. In her case I'm not sure if there was ever a time she was going to accepted. Can you imagine being a suit at Sony and some little A&R person walks into your office and tells you they wanna sign the former Stephanie Mills one of the most disliked characters in the history of TV blamed for the perceived All In The Family shark jump? With radio overrun with angry rap and urban in 1994 it was an amazing accomplishment she even landed a record deal.

    Check out Stephanie! Hotrodding a 1969 Mercury Cougar, skateboarding, and has a good voice too. This song it seems previewed the New Radicals that were to come out with their debut a couple of years later, which Danielle was a band member.

    • @jackmcgee5331
      @jackmcgee5331 ปีที่แล้ว

      New Radicals were never a band, just a moniker for Gregory Aiuto's 3rd solo effort, where he was accompanied by some relatively consistent session players that varied by song of which Danielle was the most frequent contributor appearing on 5 of the projects 12 tracks.

      This faced headwinds on two fronts right outta the box. CHR radio was overrun with R&B and rap so 1995 was the worst time to come out with a pop record. Epic tried to work it to Modern Rock, but the 2nd issue arose. Enough people at that time still remembered her as cute, sweet Stephanie Mills, she wasn't gotta fit in a format that was playing Pearl Jam and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, regardless of how trashy she tried to make herself look.

      @@lonewolf261000 Epic didn't know what to do with her. After awful first single What If God Fell From the Sky flopped, this was supposed to be the 2nd single. But it was pulled at the last minute for Gimme Little Sign. I don't know if they felt a remake was a safer choice, but it didn't catch on either. By the time this gem finally dropped, radio was tuned out after two bad strikes.

    • @lonewolf261000
      @lonewolf261000 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@goforho7257 I admit What if God fell from the sky wasn’t her best song. But it did show case her powerful voice. But Obviously it didn’t matter. It’s strange too because when her producer and fellow song writer Gregg Alexander decided to make his own music with the new radicals he found success almost immediately. The industry just wasn’t fair at all to briseboise.

      Being a former child actress carries a stigma. I think she was hoping to escape it by going into music. But it was probably even more of a career killer there than if she had just stayed in acting. She was never going to be taken seriously in music.

    Here we see a once beautiful young lady that at one time looked headed for major stardom in total shark jump mode desperately trying to get back into the spotlight. Pretty sad especially considering the album itself was actually good. Danielle was like the girl that was super cute and popular in high school coming back a decade later still trying to be that girl while everyone else has moved on with their life. At least when she was younger, she had such an incredible voice. It's hard to believe that much power could come effortlessly from such a petite package. But by this time, her voice was still okay, but her singing sounded forced and artificial.

    In an Aug 1981 TV Guide interview, the Producer of Archie Bunker's Place said they were bringing in an older girl because Danielle was not ready for a bigger role. That must have really done a number on her because she spent the next 20 years in vein crying out for people to notice her. Trying to prove she was no longer 'lil Stephie Mills and all grown up via risque photos, topless movies, disgusting videos like this, and innuendo filled album titles. This video was a desperate plea for attention. It's a shame because it distracts from the song which is actually very good.
