I love this comment, was just about to say something similar but you nailed it. 3D printing can be stressful, annoying, etc... But once you finally get the right gear, the right settings, not to mention the experience over the years - and are actually able to print something incredibly specific... It's a great feeling. Definitely have to admire someone sharing their passion and feeling proud to do it.
I've printed with over 100 different PLA filaments with the door closed, and the only jam I EVER got with the door shut was due to brittle filament snapping. Have you _actually_ experienced this overheating jam Joel, or are you just proactively solving a problem that supposedly exists?
I'm a bit puzzled by this too. What's the chamber temperature when printing PLA? If this was a real problem, wouldn't other materials with higher extrusion temperature but also higher bed temperature (leading to higher chamber temperature) have the same kind of issue?
Interesting approach to overcoming a problem introduced by not using the “Cool” plate the printer came with! It works surprisingly well. I have over 1000 hours printing PLA with the cool plate and have not experiencing any of problems you described.
@@Martial-Mat I have a PEI plate, but have never used it. Bought it shortly after I got my Kickstarter Combo since everyone was raving about them. It’s a backup for my cool plates should the need arise. The cool plate just works. I use Windex for my release agent. It’s quick and easy.
I decided to go with the BLV - AMS Riser, because it also got two drawers. With that I got all the extra stuff, and spare parts for the printer, out of the boxes, and into the drawers on top of the printer. :)
I also went with the BLV-AMS Riser. It requires supports, takes a lot more time to print, and uses a lot more filament. However, I believe that it is worth it if you have the resources as you end up with a far better looking riser along with extra functionality. You can also install LEDs and a TPU seal directly into the riser which comes in very handy.
Thank you for the personal bit at the end. Every time I see a content creator with a different energy to their normal videos, I worry about their health. I'm glad you're well and printing for pleasure! Happy Holidays!
I like it. I haven't needed it. For whatever reason, I've had tons of success printing PLA with the doors closed and the lid on. I'm sure I've just jinxed it, but now I know what I'll want to print when I do finally run into heat creep on my X1C!
@@3DPrintingNerd Haha! Actually I've been thinking about printing a 100% æsthetic (and 0% practical) mod for the Prusa MK3. It's the "Ultimate Prusa Casing" side pieces to give the printer a more aggressive look.
Actually the open door creates draft damage even with PLA. Without a riser, removing the glass is the only option. I added another riser just for permanent vents, even though i don’t want an AMS on top. The access is needed too frequently imho. High maintenance machine. With multiples it gets kind of pointless anyhow.
Mine is arriving next week, this will be my first mod! Thanks for the detailed video! EDIT: OK, just saw the end. I absolutely love your enthusiasm, Joel. It always shows through; never change!
@@jcfpv3454 It depends upon the number of colours and the type of prints. If you print a single colour - then it's no worse than any other. If you print 4 with multi colours each layer, then you'll waste FAR more than you print.
@@Martial-Mat I'm saving up for an X1C and will get it soon. One of my concerns with this mod would be noise, I imagine the printer would be a lot louder with the top glass wide open? Not sure though. The mod is interesting but yeah I will try the printer with the door closed first
@@SangheiliSpecOp I've never had a problem with the door closed. Bambu just released a new driver that allegedly reduces print noise by about 15%. There is also a box you can print and attach to the back that reduces fan noise. If you are sure to keep the AMS lid closed, that also reduces noise. I'm very sensitive to noise and I run it in another room, and it's still loud enough to stop me falling asleep, although if I leave my PC on, the white noise is enough to mask it but sleep through.
Total game changer my temps stay so stable by putting my back glass on the printer and front on first tong I looked everywhere for this model that I seen on a a1 video when I found it I also found the minimalist version next to it on printable and did it with 650 grams of filament instead of 1.5 to 1.75 rolls thanks Joel hope you had great holidays
High 5 back! I haven’t had issues printing with the door closed, but I’ll still give the venting a go. Agree with you - my enjoyment of 3d printing was renewed when I got my X1C. Before that, I was on a long hiatus, not inspired to print anything for months on my CR-10S Pros or even my Prusa. Way to go Bambu!
Love you Joel, your videos have been a big part of my love for printing for years and years now. Always love seeing you when you're genuinely excited about something like this! Thank you so much for making such awesome stuff for so long, I hope you continue to find passion in what you share with us
We played around with some of the bambus at Microcenter today, (printed out a few benchies on them) and were really impressed at their line of printers. But... they seemed almost "too good". Joel long time watcher first time responding, I always enjoyed your TH-cam channel. I've been 3d print since 2014. It's been a love hate hobby for sure. I noticed when printing it for fun to give to kids and people for joy, I recieved joy as will. The minute I get people asking and "kindly" demanding things takes a toll and ruins the fun. Especially when it fails to print... Curse you 3D printing god!!!... Anywho, it's always a blast to get full functional print. I've been on the fence printing the bambu riser. I've seen a couple just haven't made up my mind. Glad to see it work out. Happy holidays and God bless you and your family.
Joel, thanks for doing this. I learned the hard way to keep my X1 Carbon open when printing PLA, after constant jams and some research. I love 3D printing after 4 years in the hobby it is still amazing what we can do. Functional prints are the best became they solve a problem, usually quicker and cheaper.
Maybe it’s just the holidays and I’m feeling nostalgic, but I do miss when you just stayed home and printed really cool stuff to share with us in your backyard. 😎
The end was really touching, but I was especially shocked to come to the comments and find so many positive affirmations. I've been a little disheartened with 3D printing lately. I'm hoping the X1C I just ordered will help revive the spark. Thank you for your content and positivity.
How goes it? IMHO The X1C is hands down the best printer you can get, and it is the only printer I ever use anymore. I even have a Prusa that just collects dist. The X1C revitalized my love of designing and printing because it just plain works, with no fuss, each and every single time without fail.

Some of the most satisfying prints are the ones we either design and print or find a file and print for the purpose of a simple fix that we need and those AHA moments are priceless makes us remember why we got into 3d printing in the first place merry Christmas man and a happy new year I’ve been watching you since I started 3D printing going on year 3 and I love it it’s worked out awesome for my business I work for my self full time now and I get to spend more time with my family so that’s a plus you’ve been an inspiration truly appreciate everything you do , ✋
Agreed. We got into the hobby to print stuff. Then my brother said, you know what, we can make a product that can sell. We don't have affordable Model rocket kits in South Africa. So he designed 1. 3D printed nosecone with laser cut parts. And with the anti-plastic straw campain, access to 6 and 8mm cardboard tubes for launch lugs. The rest is history. We do a STEAM workshop since 2012, and no, the world didn't end. And this year it was accepted as part of the school curriculum. Now we just need to educate the educators on how it benneffits their students to build a real rocket and go fly it. So print the things you love, and have an awesome 2024!
Got my X1 Carbon today...since PLA is just about my only material, venting is gonna be an issue. What you said about heat-breaks and ambient temperature is a true thing...temperature differences work on a third (fourth?) power thing...if the air surrounding the heat-break is too warm, no heat is drawn outta the break at all!
It's great when a problem presents itself and you can fix it in a simple manner, In our case: just 3D print a thing. As for showing things off just because they're cool: love them. Reminds me how when I go to take photos with friends, I never announce the photo. It's candid. If I wanted a posed photo, I would. But sometimes it's better to just let life happen, catch a moment that you like, and go "check this out". See you in the new year (assuming no surprise video before Monday)
Great to see someone on the internet finally mention Spezspivick holes. Most people think it's "specific". But actually Spezspivick holes were invented by Dr. Ralf Spezspivick back in 1826. High-5!
I love my X1C. I printed some like that a few weeks after I got it becuase I print mostly PLA and I run my bed temps a little on the high side. The one I use also keep the lid raise up for it the vent but it also as a spot to put LED light strip in it. My printer now has over 1500 hours on it and it all doing great.
It really depends on your local climate. I live in Virginia, and my printers behave way differently in the summer than in the winter. Room temperature, humidity, etc. In winter I need to run my Enders in a closet behind plexiglass for prints to stick. In summer, I need to pop the plexi out and run a fan over them or prints will warp. I bought my X1 in November, so I've only seen it work in winter. It's amazing how much a few degress of room temperature and a few percentage points of relative humidity will mess with print quality.
Being able to keep a lid on is important to us, since we have overhead fans that run 24/7 to circulate HVAC with high ceilings. Just adding a "hat" to our bed slingers helped warping a lot.
Hmm.. i never knew i had this problem with my x1c. Have been printing pla only (with ams on top and different brands of pla). Door stays closed during printing, and I've had 0 failures. Awesome video!
I saw a different one of these risers for the x1c that was a lot more slim and just had 2 closeable magnetic doors on each side for a total of 8 little doors that could open to vent. This riser you made just looks really big, and doesn’t come with extra storage, but it does look cool with the see through structure on the sides. Kind of reminds me of one of those Ooni pizza ovens or something like that. Thanks for sharing.
That is the coolest mod I've seen. Next, a mod for switching between the AMS and the spool holder setup when you need to print TPU. Or another printer. haha I'm with you on the hobby. I've been watching your videos since the beginning. I started mine similarly in 2015. Thank you for the awesome content over the years.
There is a few different mods, while they dont easily switch from the spool to the AMS, you wont have to move the tubing. Its a Y-splitter that allows for another line of ptfe tube that goes to the spool to be fed into the printer as well. When I printed this, I did need to buy a ptfe tube kit with the adapters and clips and such in order for it to work, but it works so well, i'm glad i did!
I've been looking into the different ones you can print, but if it already hasn't been mentioned, you'll need something to stand on to change out the filament. The normal height of most work stations or counter tops is 36 to 38 inches. If you have your printer on something lower than this print should be ok. But even in this video you can see how high it is above Joel. Thanks for the vid. Cheers!
One idea to improve it further. Create a frame with the same dimensions of the glass top, make it so there is a fine computer mesh in the frame for a dust filter so when the glass top is venting you can still keep dust out
First videos of yours i've seen. Gotta say love the ending bud! Got my 7yo the x1c as a hobby together, we are on 19hrs of printing since 6pm friday lol.. Finishing this filament poop chute then gonna start the riser you showed. Looks great! Just ordered 20 rolls of filament tonight, can't wait to bond with my daughter over fun little projects like yours
My P1P (and other printers) runs most days, all day, just for fun things for myself. 700 jobs over 8 months! I love this hobby. I'm traveling in Feb, to trade off a DIY printer I have $4k invested in, to a business, who is giving me back a similar sized printer KIT, just because I enjoy the process of building up printers and I want to do it all over again. It's just my jam.
In the process of printing one that has TPU gaskets to properly seal the glass, added drawer space, and a place to mount some LED lights since the illumination on the P1S is a little lacking on the illumination front.
The rule that you have to open the door when printing PLA also depends on ambient temperature. I have my printer in the garage and it's too cold for the door to be open. I get layer separation problems if i dont close the door and get the chamber temperature up to around 32-35C. It's partly due to the Aux fan blasting at 70 percent by default.
I did the original version of this first after getting my P1S upgrade kit, it's really easy to print and to set up. Though I ultimately went with the BLV AMS riser cause it looks cooler and has the drawers and build plate storage. If you want something a bit easier and with way less material than the BLV, this is the way to go for sure. And remember everyone, the best reason to own a 3D Printer is to print things for your 3D Printer ;)
You are AWESOME, been looking at different versions on this, am going to print in ASA.... well because I have it and I want it to handle temp swings I print with from ABS/ASA. Thanks Joel
Cool and all, for anyone that wants to save time and filament you can just put a pencil on either side of the lip that holds the glass, drop the glass back on and put the AMS on it- the resulting 5/16" or so gap is enough to keep the heat down. Or use PLA+
I printed one of these, but never end up lifting the lid and still get great PLA prints. Since it's in my living room, I'd rather avoid the extra noise, but it's a nice option to have and I use the grid to hold a side spool for the "5th roll"
How about when printing at high acceleration? Does this increase in height make it any less stable up there? Also, thanks for the very sweet note at the end. It was a very human thing to hear which is nice for a change.
Thanks for the awesome video! That overhang (that caused sagging) looks like it was not needed, and could have been chamfered off. Was it actually needful for the design to work right?
Joel! you need to check out the V3 and V4 versions of this model. They include build plate holders, tool holders, and even a place for all my spare hotends
Great to see you have your spark back! Was a little worried about you after watching 1 of your recent videos. Make the videos you want, not the videos you think you should. Keep enjoying 3D printing and practical prints are the best! @3DPrinterDoctor
Please consider doing an update on the Kobra 2 Max. There are a ton of us thinking about that machine but want to know how it's working after you've had time with it. I got a SV06 on a black Friday sale and have had a lot of fun and very little trouble with it. Like most people, now I want to print faster and bigger projects.

In summer, I need to pop the plexi out and run a fan over them or prints will warp. I bought my X1 in November, so I've only seen it work in winter. It's amazing how much a few degress of room temperature and a few percentage points of relative humidity will mess with print quality.
Much Love Joel. Your video quality is always top notch. High Five!
What a brilliantly designed mod.
bambu should design the glass door removable.
Looks like the perfect space for an Ooni Pizza Oven 😂
Thanks Joel! Your enthusiasm is awesome!
This is SO SO GOOD to hear!!
I wish one day to have a friend as nice and awesome as you. Been here a long time, thanks for the great videos.
Brilliant! Happy new year and here is for a better year next year!
I have the Hex AMS Riser, that allows you to add honeycomb wall to both sides of the printer and add all the things to tidy your table
It's just my jam.
what makes u choose P1P over X1C?
I have gone from Aldi Cocoon Create Touch to an A1 and feel the same, print things off without the first layer issues makes 3D printing even more fun.
I print with iboss filament in the ams door closed. 220c -60c bed print comes out flawless
Happy holidays and happy printing!
Great ending words, Happy New Year Joel!
Thank you Joel. Printing one for me now. Appreciate you.
Every once in a while I need to build stuff for me without cameras in my PJs to reenergize myself. Hugs!
thank you ive been looking for a solution for this problem for so long so excited to print this this also solves 2 problems ive had
sooooo gooood
Dude, this mod seriously is next level!
Thanks Joel
Thank you Joel! Now we need one mod for the a series😝...Happy new year🎉
👍 Now I need to print 3 of these for my P1S printers.
Waiting for my X1C to arrive, this will be one of my first prints thanks :)
"Here's a neat little printer mod. Oh, just gonna destroy you emotionally for a second. Ok cool enjoy!"
I'm printing this today. Great review. I know I'm late to the party.
I just printed led riser but now I need this!
I don’t get jams but I would like to remove the top
This is a very good point, but I just turn on the chamber fan and it works great.
Love you buddy!
You're the best!
How about when printing at high acceleration? Does this increase in height make it any less stable up there? Also, thanks for the very sweet note at the end. It was a very human thing to hear which is nice for a change.
Using the cool plate I haven't had any issues with chamber temps getting too high.

When I was young these elements used to be molten bronze poured between massive stone blocks.
I would have loved to have seen some comparisons with PLA on and off
Thanks for the awesome video! That overhang (that caused sagging) looks like it was not needed, and could have been chamfered off. Was it actually needful for the design to work right?
Tip if you live in europe: PLA and PLA Pro from the Filright brand prints just fine with the door and top closed.
Joel! you need to check out the V3 and V4 versions of this model. They include build plate holders, tool holders, and even a place for all my spare hotends
Woodworkers watching will say “Dovetail joints, Joel. Not butterfly.” 😉
Joel! Bets to go with the BLV - AMS Riser !
Did I miss something? Did it work? What plastic needed what level on the shelf? Closure?
im printing pla since the start with all closed and works well, using hatchbox and esun
Great to see you have your spark back! Was a little worried about you after watching 1 of your recent videos. Make the videos you want, not the videos you think you should. Keep enjoying 3D printing and practical prints are the best! @3DPrinterDoctor
Thanks for ur opinion. I am still wondering why Nobody made an motorised(esp) version for venting holes🤔
Thankfully I do not have to open anything when printing Hatchbox PLA. Jobs over 2 days long have never had any issues. I'm in northern California for temp reference.
