    The main concern with high mileage EVs would be the possibility of relatively frequent high speed charging which increases the rate of degradation of the battery - less likely with this car due to the range extender - more likely a problem for Nissan Leaf which has little battery cooling.

    I think the boot capacity is the same whether there is a REX or not. The BEV simply has an unusable gap under the boot floor were the REX would have been.

    The i3 has been the same car throughout, their are no different generations. Only the battery has gotten bigger.. There is a sports version but its basically the same car with 16 more horsepower and stiffer suspension..

    • @PierreDybman
      @PierreDybman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is not really correct. The lower suspension and larger wheels give it a slight;y better handling.

      I said there is a sports version...
      The sports version has a stiffer ride and it more stable at freeway speeds, but the car really hasn't changed at all in the 8 years it be out.

    • @PierreDybman

      @@mamadouaziza2536 I read you very well, and you are mistaken, the stiffer suspension is not the major change,mit’s the lower suspension, which you just now remembered, and the larger stance due to wheel spacers. So check more videos or try to understand them.

    They call it high mileage... I have ridden in European taxis (E Class Mercedes).. With 300, 000 - 700, 000 km.. Still running well.. I would like to see an EV at that km....
    The mileage on this EV wouldn't frighten an ICE vehicle...
    So if they can't do nearly as much as an ICE then they are not environmentally friendly.
    But the i3 was a great EV...

      Idiotic statement with no basis..of course all EV's will have degradation, but what does it actually mean?..well in the case of the 94 Ah version it is rated for about 500000kms . If you dont know or understand this, then research and you will come out of the dark clouds of EV myths and come into the light of understanding and truth.

    VW has a warranty for 8 years for the batteries, If later replacement is needed its a cost 12k USD. This needs to be addressed for anyone buying an EV.
    There will be many many gallons for 12'000 USD.

    EVs make a great used buy. When you buy a used combustion car there is so much to check... has the oil been changed regularly? Has the cambelt been changed? Has it been used on cheap supermarket fuel? Did previous owners ride the clutch, rev the nuts off it on a cold engine? With an EV, none of this is relevant- check the general condition of bodywork and interior and off you go. The only problem with the REx version is it has a ruddy combustion engine, get a BEV one for real peace of mind. Warranty on traction battery is 8 years, not 6!

    • @drivelife.channel
      @drivelife.channel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simon this is so true! They are much simpler in terms of components! 😁

    • @mamadouaziza2536
      @mamadouaziza2536 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You also need to check the battery for degradation, check that the motor mounts and mount bolts are either plastic or metal. You need to check the entire electrical system and the brakes.. These cars are not without issues.

    • @mamadouaziza2536
      @mamadouaziza2536 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Commendatore
      The i3 is as reliable as any EV or ICE car. The i3 has a stiff sporty ride because it sits on 19in wheels, the i3S has an even stiffer ride because it sits on 20in wheels.
      The BEV version has a heat pump and the REx version does not.
      The REx will need maintaining such as oil and filter changes.
      The gas fuel door on the REx is pressurized and can cause issues opening it (something to look out for).
      At freeway/motorway speeds of over 80mph the i3 can feel a little unstable, you have to grip the wheel to keep the car from drifting out of its lane. Strong cross winds can also cause drifting, head winds are not an issue. The car's height and super light weight is what causes it to slightly drift.
      If you're a good driver you shouldn't have an issue.
      The i3S handles slightly better on the freeway due to the stiffer suspension..
      Avoid potholes and bad roads because a terrible pothole mishap can cause serious damage to the tires and can cause the motor mount bolts and the mounts themselves to crack and break if they are the plastic mounts and cheaper bolts.
      Build quality on the i3 is superb compared to Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y and to Chevy's Bolt and Renault's Zoe. Pick a fully loaded i3 with all the options, go for an all leather or wool/leather interior.
      Make sure it has full LED headlights (some models have halogen headlights), rear view camera, Active Cruise Control (European models will also include Traffic Jam Assist on the steering wheel). If buying a 2014 version, check the battery to make sure it hasn't degraded much (usually these batteries hold up rather well), the 60Ah battery had a range of 82 miles for the BEV and 75 miles for the REx, you should only see a 5% to 7% deduction in range on the 2014 version. Check that it has DC Fast Charging because that was an option on the 2014 models.

      @@mamadouaziza2536 No car is perfect. However in terms of buying a lemon, there is so much more that can be problematic on a used combustion car compared to an electric car.

    • @leeharvey5050

      What most people are missing here is the fact that if your i3 does go wrong be prepared for an excessive bill as there is not many garages that touch EV still. At least on a combustion car, parts are in abundance and lots of mechanics repair. You can even do DIY work on a standard combustion vehicle. Honest.
      The BMW I3 is great. But heads up incase the HV system breaks down and needs replacing. 👍 Get your extremely expensive warranty just in case.

      Sunroof is an option that can specified on any permutation of i3 at purchase time. All versions have a basic sound system, but at purchase time you can opt for a Harmon Korden system which has the usual extra speakers, amplification and subwoofers.

      1:17 with CC on (because no matter how many times I listened to him I couldn't hear it.) 82.5k Miles. Assuming he is correct that it is still showing the same amount of miles as it should when new after being fully charged. That would mean degradation is under ~15%. There's a buffer on the upper end of the battery to help with longevity. It's hard to give an exact figure but I can tell you with certainty the vast majority of the modern EVs are lasting much much longer than expected. We've yet to see their end in sight and answering your question. I suspect the i3 on battery alone would last far far beyond 100k miles. (For reference BMW's battery warranty is 8 years, 100k. They have no plans on replacing these things and have done their homework to make sure the vast majority of them will never need to be replaced under that time and miles frame)

    • @2revoemag
      @2revoemag 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Commendatore Turning to the internet for these kinds of things? Take my response with a grain of salt and do your own research. Here's what I think. If you're able to access the car on a test drive google "i3 battery capacity test" and follow those instructions. There are videos on how to. A 2014 has the 22KW battery and from the factory it should be around 18.4KW if memory serves, you can look that up to. "usable battery". I would expect some loss at 160k km. 2014 is also the year the car came out(in USA think Europe had them sooner), so it's the most likely to have issues. Check the front axle boots and make sure they aren't bad. You will see them ripped or torn. Drive the car as far as you can. If it's from a dealer ask if you can have it over night. Try to run the car down to 10-20km range left and make sure the battery is still good. If the car shuts off before reaching 10km in a "smooth" decline something is wrong with it. You'll want to take it as close to 0 as possible. Other things to note in a test like that is the i3 will automatically adjust your range on the fly dependent on what you're using. Wipers, lights, heat, AC ect. So try to keep it the same during your run down test. Then treat it like any other used car. The only real gotcha on an I3 without rex is the tyres.(Rex is another story entirely and cause lots of issues for i3) They only last around 50k km. Make sure those tyres are new or have very good life left. Only 1 manufacturer makes rubber that fit those odd balls. They are also questionable in the snow. Look them up at tirerack dot com. Live in USA so not sure if you have a website like tirerack where you are. TBH I'd recommend you also look at Smart electric and fiat 500e. Here in America those are less expensive than an I3 and should do the same thing. Though my knowledge on them is less. Food for thought and good luck.
