I have a model A and just installed. PM5. Easy to install. Concept sends you the PM5 with a bracket to attach the monitor. They also send you a little plastic wheel with little magnets to attach to the wheel and a little plastic arm with the pickup that goes over the axle. The sensor looks a little bit fragile, but it works. They send you everything you need.
Cool video. I see Model A's from time to time and would love to have one as a collector's item, but I don't really have space, with two Model Ds, a BikErg, a SkiErg, a treadmill and an elliptical. You definitely want to get a PM5, or maybe you can find a used PM3. Used ones are around, as lots of people have upgraded from PM3 to PM5.
I used these in the 80's on a crew team. Felt like real rowing akin to how a $2000 keyboard feels like a real piano. See how fast you can bang out 3 miles. Die and love it.
Picked up a model B and love the classic look of the wood and simplicity of the machine. Hoping to eventually repaint, replace some parts, and possibly put a nice stain on the wood to class it up. Spent $165 which seemed fair from a gov auction. Where did you find your mode A?
Awesome! Yes we love how simple it is and how we can fix it ourselves. I got it off of Facebook marketplace. Had to drive like half and hour to pick it up but it was well worth it!
Hi. I don't care about the monitoring etc. I'm concerned about getting a good storng pull. Have you used a Model C or D and how does it compare please ?
I have the A and B, my brother has a D I also have a Samina X. The model A I'd my favorite. There is more feedback then later models. Can be repaired easily. Peace.
I was lucky enough to snag a used model d with a pm5 monitor early in lockdown 1.0, it wasn't 80 cad but still a great addition to my homegym. I've used it basically daily since i got it! Are you going to try to repair the speedometer? Love the video by the way!
@@mosid7641 The PM5 is a great monitor, and if you get one to retrofit your model a you can always re-sell it if you get another model with an adjustable air intake for the flywheel. Looking forward to seeing more content! Keep it up! Great stuff!
Hi, were you able to retrofit the PM5 monitor on your MODEL A Rower? If so, could you share how? I'm midway in making my own rowing machine similar to the Model A. I would love to use the PM5 for stats etc., wondering if the PM5 and its pickup/sensor module can be used on a custom flywheel(bicycle wheel with acrylic housing for air-intake). If it can be used then would love to know where to place it on my build, and whether I would need to make any changes to my design. Thank you very much in advance!
Love it! I found one of this on FB Marketplace last night and bought it for $20. Everything seems to work well. I was going to ask if you knew when the speedo turns what each of the numbers mean, would it be feet? Anyway great video!
Super cool to see this old machine working
Thanks for making this, found one locally that I’m considering and this helped tremendously!
Thanks for making this!
This was incredibly interesting, thank you.
Just about to buy one for 75$ as a secondary for the cottage. Great and helpful video!
Thank you for this video! Would love to see a video when you decide to retrofit it to a PM5!

Fantastic vid, thanks
wow, ive never seen a model A before!
Same! I couldn’t find a single video about one on TH-cam, so I made one.
good review, thanks. I am told that the number shown on the monorail corresponds with the stainless steel used on it, not the serial number of the erg
Put a lot of miles on these one winter back in the day! The next year we got a couple of Model B's and I never touched an A again.
@ Mosid .. How can I find a model B .. They are the best for power !! Thank you 🙏 for the video
How loud is it? Found one on FB marketplace and might grab one.

I think the Model A is the best looking machine C2 ever built. It looks like something from Leonardo da Vinci's sketchbook.

@ Mosid .. How can I find a model B .. Do you know if concept still sales the model B if you wanted 1 ..

We are going to try. A PM5 would be more useful but I think it would be cool to get it working again. Thanks!

Thank you! Great deal on yours, we got our for $80 (canadian). It measures in miles per hour so I’m assuming it’s a combination of feet and miles.
wow my model A looks ANCIENT compared to yours. I wish I could date mine, it has no markings on it.
If it has no serial number then it’s first production 1981. Very rare!
