  • In this video I use my new Happy Zippers and Zippy Bag Panel show you how I make my project bags...there are 4 large and 4 small on the panel and of course you can make project bags using these directions from my other decorator weight and cotton prints as well. This is the same bag tutorial that I have taught on my blog and my workshops over the years and now I have designed these panels and zippers and Riley Blake Designs produces and distributes them to quilt shops worldwide.
You can purchase my panel and zippers from your favorite quilt shop...simply do a quick google search by typing in
"Zippy Bag Panel by Lori Holt" and you will find them as well as my zippers, other fabrics and notions.
So grab your project bag fabric, your panel, lining fabric and batting scraps and make a Zippy Bag with me:)
I hope you enjoy my tutorial and spending time with me in my happy place! ❤️

It seems like you worry about “going slow” because you don’t want us to get bored. I can tell you I really appreciate you going slow enough to show us the important details…especially because I am not a seasoned sewer. So go as slow as you want🤣. I loved these bags and can’t wait to order the supplies. THANK YOU💕

Lori - THANK YOU : ) for not speeding up or hurrying through your tutorials!! Taking your time to go through this whole process with us in your sewing room is so WONDERFUL. What a treasure that you are sewing in real time so we can enjoy your conversation, see all of your cute things, learn all of your expert sewing tips, and end up with a cute zippy bag!! What a rare treat these days. Thanks for taking your time with us. It has been a pleasure! I'm warming up inside with the fireplace going all day with freezing rain/snow for the next couple of days in Texas!!

Really glad you showed us how to put these bags together, with thicker fabrics & using the walking foot instead of just concentrating on using a zipper foot only, for the zipper attachment. .
The "birthing" of the top of the bag first really makes sense, as you do have more room when you turn the bottom of the bag through the opened zipper (great cautionary note...to remind us to open zipper before you sew the bag closed, all of the way around). The way you did it makes a lot of sense; thanks, Lori.
As I am an audio, visual, tactile learner, Lori, I comprehend directions best if all 3 senses are used @ the same time... it's more difficult for my differently wired brain (ADHD, subtype: A.D.D.) to comprehend instructions than if the instructions are just in print & I have to perform the task without someone else showing how-to, to me.
In RN school, we agreed: To see x once, do x once then teach x once... "
See one, Do one, Teach one".
Turns out most of the nurses with whom I worked (over 38 years) had the similarly differently wired brains.
I am also not surprised many of the sewing artists also learn best using these 3 senses. I have found, if I am not writing notes, or doing the project, I will not focus & will tune in too late [BUT, I did re-arrange a kitchen cupboard or sewing/quilting room shelf better, in my head, while NOT paying attention!!!]
"Not listening"... as some teachers have told me... correct, I just didn't engage the 3 senses at the same time, in order to perform learning the best way for me!
I went into detail, as some learners haven't realized there are 9 senses used in learning & that many of us have to use the best combination for us...was trial & error for me, in high school & college. To recite my spelling lists, or bones/muscles of the body, for example, I set the lists to music & the left brain took over doing the learning; as a young singer (8 years old through college) I found I could memorize.many music pieces.. even in foreign languages, when set to music. So glad I was able to learn that learning style and to know that was my best way of learning, really helped me accomplish many tasks in school & beyond.

    • @brendawallgren8354
      @brendawallgren8354 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for saying this part about music. I also was able to memorize the words when put to music no matter what language the piece was in, but I never made the connection. All these years I’ve wondered how I could remember pieces of music from 30 yrs ago, but fail to memorize 3 lines of poetry. I really appreciate you pointing this out. I think you opened a new door for me! Blessings and happy sewing!

You hit a home run with these bags, Lori. The double zipper is perfect; no fooling with the open end like on typical zippers. I also like your process for adding batting. Eliminates bulk while sewing in the zipper. (What stitch length do you use?)

Like I always say, “You are a genius!” I just made curtains out of your fabrics for my sewing room. It is an ongoing project that will most likely continue into the late spring of 2022. It is a small bedroom turned into a sewing room that has way too much fabric stash and cross stitching projects for my lifetime but I keep buying more! Thank you for showing the entire process for making the project bags. I don't mind watching you cut fabric while I'm stitching up holiday tea towels. Just like I'm sitting there with you while you sew.
