- This video features Appleton OHV Park in Appleton Minnesota. Chad is a subscriber and invited me to come ride for the day! He brought his Can Am Renegade and his Janssen Built Honda TRX520R. He had too much fun on the Honda so the Can Am never was unloaded that day. We had perfect trail conditions and the machines ran great! I can't wait to rip with him and his awesome Honda again!

I just got a 05 trx 450r with a 480 bore kit full pro circuit t4 exhaust and half the air box lid out. It is a complete monster. I stumbled across your videos looking for trx stuff and I am not disappointed on any of the videos

Nitrorc 77 ya that’s all you need keep an eye out for a good deal. I got mine for a great deal they do go reasonably priced now days everyone wants a sxs or big 4x4 so the deals are out there. I’ve heard the raptors also ride very good in the trails but to be honest the Honda is very smooth I expected something different but it’s ride nice. 43 is young too my brother in law is 41 and still rides the dirt bikes but does complain once in a while of a sore back haha. I’m convincing him to ride atv it’s a little more forgiving I think

Raptors are great for trail riding and what not, 450r is a beast though.

Another great video, Pete! I gotta tell ya, riding Laine's 400ex widened out, is what made me curious about widening out the Raptor. With the +2, +1 a arms, and an adjustable rear axle, it feels just as planted as the Honda's do! I was blown away by the difference it made to the handling. I'm pretty light, but even with the stock shocks (adjusted a little stiffer), it handles a lot better. Especially through the turns. You know how, when you are breaking into a turn, and the front end dives? Well, that is gone! All you have to do is lean into it, and it tracks right through. Any way, if you ever get a chance to ride one that has been widened, take it! I think it might change your opinion. I got the whole works for less than $500. In my opinion, so far...it's worth every penny! I'm trying to get a video of it together, but I've got a 9yr old Great Dane, that is sick, and I've been having to keep an eye on him. Hopefully, I'll get it out in the next few days.

I had an 08 TRX 700 xx and to be honest it was fast ...like 89 mph stock but those 450 r's are straight beast and are super fast with a little work !
I got an 09 trx 700 and fastest I got to was like 80mph :o
Had a 700xx and changed the gearing where it would top out around 65 and man that thing was nasty torq
In the future if you build your raptor into a 734 with 11:1 compression and a hot cam 2 or 3 and FCI intake and bored out throttle body that will make it a true trail beast......I just did my 06 2 years ago and it rips like hell

I have had 3 trx 450’s and love them, so reliable 👌🏻. Wish they would make a new one with fuel injection and reverse

I have a Suzuki LT-Z 400 and I'm super happy with it, plenty of power for me ( Plus Short Gears so it pulls kinda hard ahah ) but I can't imagine driver a raptor or a 450, amazing

Maintenance is expensive and often on highly tuned 450's. Just like MX dirtbike 450's.
Lifted_Above definitely. That’s why I got the raptor first. This way when I eventually get another 450 I’ll be able to bring both quads Incase I have any mechanical issues

Wow...That brings back some awesome memories Pete. Thanks! I had a 05 Trx with a cylinder works Bigbore kit , hotcam2 and a Baldwin Fcr carb Was so so fun and very reliable. But I’m with you on going with the Raptor. Trx was fast but required way more effort… I love my 700..I can ride all afternoon and it doesn’t make me walk like a 90-year-old man the next day LOL. That ATV park looks sweet. Thanks again for a great vid!

There is a reason the Raptor is called king of the dunes. When I get on my Raptor after riding my 450 you really notice how much pull the 700 has. Makes the 450 feel like a toy.

Was going to say don't feel bad about keeping up to that Trx because of the lower wider geometry and weight advantage. The raptor still held its ground. Great camera footage and changeovers looks pro.

Great video, man....I really enjoy all your video's. Really nice footage, great positive content, and it just looks like so much damn fun. I really miss my riding days. Never had a 4-wheeler but used to have an 84 and 86 ATC 250R, and before that an old Yamaha 225DX 3-wheeler and KX80 dirt bike. My riding friends had ATC 350x, ATC200X and Warrior 4-wheeler, oh and the one had a Big wheel...all before your time, bro, haha.

@@PeteHager Your Raptor 700R is my favorite new ATV, it just does it all and looks great doing it, but my favorite of all time is the1986 ATC250R which was a 2-stroke racing trike that was very fast for it's time, and is pretty much legendary. And in my nostalgic eyes is the most beautiful ATV every created. Unfortunately they banned 3-wheelers, because there was too many accidents...You really had to know what you were doing to pilot one. man that place looks sweet. great video as always sucks your so far away loved the camera angles front, rear facing. this is what I wanted to do this past weekend at the mx track my buddy got hurt so the days plans kind of fell threw.
I think you should consider doing some suspension work. now you don't have to replace it all you could do a budget setup and just send your stock shocks out for a revalve and respring for your weight. I think youd be pretty surprised on what a difference just that would make as far as handling goes and add a stabilizer as well haha.

I have a 520 kit on 2004 450r too. A split sec is all it takes to go wrong
New sub !!! I just got a 07 with hrc 1 kit and ported and its sweet !! Had a raptor 660 before that was more torque this one a bit faster

I have a built can am ds 650, it has a big bore kit to 720, it has hot cams, full fmf exhaust, new valve springs, pro taper handle bars, Fox shocks, and more, it is a absolute beast would love to ride with you but I live in British Columbia, Canada

Anything can be built, to some extent, at 75mph I can pull my raptor up in 4th gear shift into 5th and it's stupid fast it will hit the tripple digits. But what do you expect when one changes gearing as high as you can find and drop 2,500 bucks into the motor. 😉
Joey Holthusen damn what all do you have Into the motor? Lol i have a stock 2016 700 and that thing has enough power for me lol. Although i am definitely gonna spend some money on upgrades soon!
@@saulignacio1 5mm stroker crank, I went with a 11:1 compression piston because wanted to still use pump gas, plus 2mm intake and exhaust valves, Hinson clutch basket, plates, springs, gearing changed front sprocket to largest I could find and rear to the smallest sprocket 34t or 36t can't remember. Plus efi controller, breathable air box lid, free flowing exhaust system. 23" tires up front and 22" tall on the back. Great trail quad.
@@saulignacio1 If limited funds starting off I'd go with efi controller and breathable air box lid along with free flowing exhaust. But efi controller absolutely 1st.

The mud can definitely be frustrating on a sport quad. I don't mind it from time to time but I prefer staying clean 😅

Yea Raptors are like Cadillacs compared to the ride of a trx450. I've got a 450er and when I got on a raptor it just felt so good to ride.
I have the same impression. 450 sports quads are the best. I had a can am ds450x and tried to move tô Honda sportraxx 700 and O felt exactly Just tou Said. So i trade It for a Suzuki LTr 450 and im happy again.

I have and 07 outlaw 252 with and thumper racing 575 big bore if u ever get and chance to head out to AZ u have to got to the ohv cinder hills good content you have

That riding location looks like a place to keep entertained all day long. Nice blend of high speed runs, woops, burms, jumps.
450's can really be made to absolutely fly, but the price of admission is high: oil changes, valve checks, piston/rings, etc. etc. Raptor will outlive any 450 for years before needing serviced. With full forged internals, it's only forced induction away from 100 hp. But the chassis is really better for dunes, woods, all around terrain. 450's are great for racing. I'd rather have a torque heavy engine than a peaky hp machine.

I have had my 450 since new nov. 03 and have only had motor issues once in 2010 very dependable even with all my mods

Nolan Smagula same here i had a ltr450 and a trx450 and the first time i drove a yfz it even felt like the engine was to forced can explain it

You can easily build a 450 to do everything a 700 does I had a 700 and still have a 450 trust me you can have the best if both worlds with a 450 22 in wheels all around for ground clearance 1 tooth smaller front sprocket full pipe tune and stage 2 cam you will never want that raptor again the 450 will be the best woods quad you ever rode set up that way and also be amazing racing in the dunes trust me brother I race and build quads and bikes for a living
I don't have a 450 but I have a Built Honda 300ex and a Yamaha Raptor 660r with a Yamaha Vmax 600 twin snowmobile engine she Rips nothing like it if you ever get the chance to build a quad with a twin snowmobile engine do it

I can say there was nothing like banging off limiter on a trx450r, however my ltr 450 was way snappier and more get up and go

My '19 Raptor is widened at both ends and I HOPE it's better than a 450.
I rode a YFZ and didn't at all like the cramped feel and engine braking...and I'm only 5'8".
But now you got me wondering if I shoulda checked out a TRX.
