You don't listen to it for her voice, you watch and listen for her acting. She has never AFAIK claimed to be a singer. (I think Sondheim liked one of her performances of this, mind.) As the original Sally Bowles, she suited the original novel/play better: Sally Bowles is not _supposed_ to be good - she's singing in a tawdry cabaret in pre-war Berlin. (Liza is of course great and made one of the great landmarks of musical film; it doesn't matter that she's so good, as it's a musical, not the original play.)
Typically Dench, she gets every last drop of emotion out of this. Stunning!
