I really enjoyed this painting... Very inspiring..I found the concept of projecting rocks under water..... daunting 😀 to say the least... These came out beautifully
Lindy, beautiful as always..every time I watch your videos I want to try doing the same subject. I love your tapping technique on foliage and details, I shall use it and and call it "scrumbling'.Thanks much, Dave
dave atchison Hi Dave, glad you enjoyed the tapping. I'll post the photo ref on my blog later today if f you want to have a go at it. www.lindywhittonstudio.com
Thanks for your tutorial Linda. I love the way you magically make a 2dimensional scene come to life. I enjoy the moment that it happens. You keep me inspired.
Lindy, I finished another painting , this video was very helpful. I also used a lot of tapping techniques from your other video ( it sounded like woodpeckers gone mad). We'll call it realism meets impressionism. I should have a photo on facebook in a couple of days. I would love to have your take on it. What a great teacher you are, my soul is filled with joy and amazement and I thank you for all your kindness and generosity, cheers, Dave
It does sound a bit like woodpeckers gone mad! It's less deafening when I use foamcore as a backing sheet so must do that next video. I'll look out for your new painting in a few days with pleasure.. Thanks for your kind words!
How to paint rocks under water? A wax pencil..and a snorkel! hi Lindy..I'm ready to paint again. So time to refresh my brain with your videos. cheers, Dave
Just discovered your sight and subscribed straight away. You explain things so well. I just hope I can start to emulate your fantastic work even a little bit! I was amazed how you get the background effects without what I would call smudging (blending).
@@1DaTJo soft pastels. Com.au is a good one when they have sales. Also Jackson's Art online have an Aus site and they often have good sales especially at Christmas and the best prices for Unison.. With the Aus US exchange rate and postage I've given up buying from Jerrys Artarama but they do have great sales if the dollar ever does better. I have far too many !!
So amazing and beautiful to watch! What did you use to draw the sketch first? I can't quite tell. I am learning a lot from your videos...thank you for taking time to create them! What are the dimensions of this one? Thank you. 🙂
Hi Aura, This was approx 10 x 10 inches. I sketched up with a white charcoal pencil. I usually sketch with a white or black charcoal pencil as they are very easy to use and are covered by the pastel layers easily . If it's a less detailed subject I don't sketch up at all but just go straight in with blocks of colour.Lovely to hear from you and I'm so pleased you're enjoying the videos.
Just googled "scrumbling'.. found out it is already an artistic term so I can't use it for describing your technique. Every time I Think I have coined a new word I found out otherwise. How about "the Lindy hop?"
I love your lessons, I'm so inspired, but can you tell your camera person to stop refocusing. The blurry pictures are frustrating. Also, I would like to see the picture you are using for inspiration several times. It helps to compare how it looks to how you create it on the canvas. Thanks.
Glad to hear yo love my lessons. I told myself to stop the refocussing issue and I think I've worked it out! I operate the camera myself so it's hard to see what's happening as I paint- I think I've now worked out how to avoid this issue and the last few videos don't have this problem. I will try to remember to show the photo inspiration more often- thanks for your suggestions:)

Amazing!
Dear Lindy,
How great to learn pastel painting from a fellow Aussie. :) I love your work! Which brand pastels are you using in this video?
Hi Daryl, They're a bit of a mix, some Unisons, Terry Ludwigs, Great American Artworks and probably a couple of Art Spectrums.
LindyWhittonStudio what a wonderful selection! Can you please tell me where you buy your pastels I.e. the best price?
