I have been toying with the idea of a medical writer since I have been studying BS Microbiology for past 3 years. But I can't seem to understand my target audience or my potential clients.
I am inclined towards personal development, but I'm unsure if it is really a profitable niche for blog post writing, also if it is too wide - if I should niche down further from the start. Do you have any insights you could share about this? Appreciate your content, thanks!
@@igorschimidt1985 Personal development is very broad. However, I know coaches, entrepreneurs, etc. in this space who very often hire bloggers to right their content. It all comes down to how you market yourself. Something like "professional blog writer for personal development coaches" or "SEO writer for career coaches" would be specific enough, I think. It will also be a matter of targeting individuals/businesses that have the money to spend on content.
Thank you, I appreciate that! Admittedly I have no posted in a while because I am rebranding my channel, so that may be why. New videos should be coming out soon!
I like all of your work and it is about time that someone as gifted as yourself shares this much needed information with the rest of us. However, I am an Outdoor Writer and have been published for over 20 years in mostly magazines. The outdoor publications are there to make money buy selling magazines and they pay very little, as low as .05 cents a word for a 750 word article with three photos. How does someone like me who is very established in this area exceed with better paying positions? Silly question I know, however your ideas may come in handy. Thanks.
Hey Jack - This isn't my niche, so my advice doesn't come from direct experience, but I would suggest looking into businesses that are peripherally related to Outdoors magazines. Think REI, Evo, and other outdoors retailers. Brands that publish content related to being outdoors. These brands spend a TON of money on content because it is a marketing play for them. Following that thinking, your own marketing would be oriented around "Copywriting for outdoors retailers" or "Content Writer for Recreational Brands" or the like. I also suggest seeing if similar brands are posting Content Writer, Copywriter, etc. job listings online/LinkedIn. This would be a good place to start.
@@thewebedit I'd personally love to see a video of your writing process! The negotiations, the research, the re-writing etc. From the moment you get an assignment from a new client to when you submit it, and get your payment.
Thanks, ma, I want to know if it's possible to connect food and beverages and inspirational writing as two different niches to dive into because those are the two places I find my strength as a writer. Please I need clarity to be a better writer.
Being a generalist makes things way more difficult. You won't have a clear target audience, a clear value statement, a targeted portfolio, or client-focused website copy. You will be casting a wide net and hoping for the best. So, I don't have a great strategy for that because it doesn't involve much of a strategy at all. I highly recommend focusing on what you are best at and seeking out customers who see the value in that. Otherwise, you will always be competing on other generalist writers on who can set the lowest price.
Hey Jessica! Could you PLEASE I mean PLEASE tell us few more b2b industries (those which are less known) because I fall under the types of content b2b write. But I’ve not found a niche that excites me in b2b. It’s been 4-5 months now😓
Hi! Thanks for posting your question. Stay tuned and I will try to make a video about this soon. In the meantime, have you considered that B2B just isn't a niche you are passionate about? Of course, B2B essentially means you are writing content for businesses that also work with businesses, and this can be any type of business, but their audiences are very different from your average consumer. Perhaps you'd rather write B2C content?
Jessica Foster Actually, I love writing sales collateral and content marketing contents. And they work in b2b. On the other hand, I like b2c too, but they have very few content that I like. I enjoy both b2c and b2b equally though. Also, I’ve considered that it’s not for me. But then I think it may feel like that because I don’t have an exciting niche! Once I get an exciting niche, it won’t be a problem.
I would want to go into the marketing and SEO niche just like you because i already have knowledge about it. Please, how do i go about it? Who are my target audience? How do i make myself visible to marketing agencies and SEO agencies? Thank you.
Hi Grace! These are both big questions, though very exciting ones. Ultimately, who your target audience is will be up to you. What types of businesses are you most drawn to? What types people would you like to work with? This can range from tech/SaaS companies to coaches/consultants to fashion/ecommerce brands and so much more. Do some thinking about who you'd LIKE to work with and the other steps should follow. Once you've decided on your target niche, you will want to post content on the platform(s) that audience uses most. For example, creative brands are more likely to be on visual platforms like Instagram or Pinterest, versus B2B is likely to be on LinkedIn. You will then post content (text, images, videos, etc) that appeal to the interests and challenges of that audience. Hi Torrey! I recommend watching some of my other videos on how to get started - setting up a portfolio, finding your first clients, etc. A lot of mental health brands are on Facebook and Instagram. I would start a blog writing about mental health topics so you can grow your own "portfolio" quickly.
Hi! I haven't certainly met writers who focus on Real Estate, and I have written for Real Estate companies myself, but I have found that it can be difficult niche to break into/thrive in because many brokerages create their own content, have minimal content needs (compared to other types of companies), and the ROI is just not as significant for them. But I wouldn't let that be a deterrent to you if that's something you want to try out. I would just recommend figuring out what types of real estate companies most need (and are willing to pay for) content.
Yes - 2 niches is fine. If they are closely related, that's best. I just recommend avoiding casting too wide of a net. Otherwise, your content will be all over the place because you will be trying to speak to 2+ different audiences that might have vastly different struggles/needs/goals.
Hi! I have mentored a few writers in this space and it is 100% possible to thrive in this niche without a degree. However, you should know your niche well and be able to write well-researched content while referencing reputable sources. Medical publications can be pretty strict about this. Look at what they are publishing and practice your content writing over time!
Have you chosen a freelance writing niche? Let me know your ideas in the comments!

What type of writing is done for a niche in entertainment? What companies/advertisements/products would I look to write for?
If someone chooses to become a generalist writer, what are some ways they can market themselves?

Im interested in doing freelance writing thats specific to mental health in community. I have no clue about where and how to find clients.
