After leading his troops through World War II in a open top jeep, General Patton would later die in a rear end collision after the war had ended. He is quoted saying "This is a hell of a way to die."
Be careful. I have a Suburban with a trailer hitch and got rear-ended by a Hyundai Sonata that was still doing at least 50 mph when he hit me - he got distracted by an "attractive nuisance" near the road, and when he turned his head back, there I was, stopped and waiting for traffic to clear so I could make a left turn. The apparent damage was minimal and cosmetic, but after a while I noticed there was oil leaking onto the ground and it seemed to be coming from the rear main seal. I pulled the transmission to change the seal, but the seal looked fine, and closer inspection showed that the oil was coming from the left rear corner of the oil pan (normally covered by the torque converter cover). I pulled the pan to find it was bent and the left rear corner of the pan seal was ripped. Replaced that, although it was entertaining getting the bent pan back in place. Things went well for a while until I was driving on I-95 and started hearing a clanking in the front end. Long story short - the engine crank had fracture behind the front main bearing. About 3/4 of the crank cross section was dark dull brown, indicating it had been partially cracked for a while, but the other 1/4 of the cross section was bright and shiny. I expect the impact transmitted through the drive train all the way into the engine and caused that extra damage. So simply because you don't see any apparent problems...

I 100% agree that trailer hitches are a must. I used to drive around without mine in the receiver until one day.... I was in stop and go traffic on I-5 near Seattle when the lady in the car behind me hit me as she was putting on makeup. Luckily, I had not removed the hitch from the last usage yet, hence as the ball went through her bumper pushing the frame cross member into the fan of her car, my Tahoe had a tiny scratch on the ball. I now run TriBalls in my vehicles for a few reasons: My trailers require different balls, larger contact area in case I meet someone else touching up their makeup, and I don't like heavy loose object in my vehicles with me.
I weld trailer hitches on utility trucks, I had to cut a few hitches of trucks frames before. Took at least 2 hours. Good welds don't budge for just anything

Drove it to 230K and ended up in a 2015 Silverado LT Z71 double cab certified used at 74K.

I swear half the reason to leave your stinger in is out of spite for the person hitting you. "If you're going to rear-end me I'm going to make your insurance company hate you." Given how many uninsured drivers there are who would just take off I'd be tempted to leave mine in just to make sure they can't get far.
We had the same thing happen except with a long hitch and it went through the guys engine block. The issue is that your frame could be bent because the impact goes to the frame instead of the bumper that’s made to crumple.
My s10 was a tank got a side impact sitting still perpendicular to me by a lady going 30 in the rear passenger corner with no frame damage a new bed and it would have been like new again
No fault insurance is only for injuries and medical bills. Has nothing to do with car repairs. The person at fault for the accident has their insurance pay for car repairs.
Literally got my first trailer hitch on my 2018 Ford Escape and not even 5 months later someone rear ended me going 70MPH while I was in stand still traffic on the highway. Totaled my car, didn't total me. Pretty much walked away with just some bumps and bruises. I'll never get a car without a hitch again.
My first car was a $1500 Grand Cherokee. It got rear ended on the trailer hitch and bent the frame rails down and totaled it. Plus the giant dent in the back lift gate.
With normal cars, not trucks, getting rear ended on the hitch means you bypass the specially designed zones for energy absorption and bring damage directly to the hart of the structure of the car.
*_"If you rear end a car it's automatically your fault?"_* Nope. Fortunately, that's just a myth. Otherwise insurance scammers, brake-checkers and drivers who roll back into other drivers would always get away with it. But fortunately, the rear-ender is not automatically at fault.

Cars these days are designed to absorb the impact so your spine doesn't have to. I've seen new cars with the whole front end wiped out just to have some spot welds and seam sealer cut off, new panels put in, and the thing's back on the road in a week good as new.
My dad got hit by the same guy, and he was in the same car and he was on his phone,he spent 5 months in jail, and yeah I live in PA, Alum Bank, I know it was him because it was the same car, and he had the same excuse for us.
This exact situation happened to me on Wednesday this week, except much worse. I slowed down for a line of traffic like you did, and got rear ended at 65+ mph highway speed which shot my car left into the HOV lane and immediately got T-boned by another car FLYING down the highway. I was driving a highly modified 2007 ford focus hatchback coupe, she's totaled now. I'm still alive though brother, trailer hitch might be in my future
Well, Mike here is my story on my truck being rear ended by a Toyota Camry, I was turning to go look at a 89 ram charger, I was stopped with the blinker on for about 10 seconds. Then the lady in the Camry was doing about 55 in a 35. She proceeded to try to pass me on a double yellow and she failed due to oncoming traffic. She hit my truck truck doing 40 to 35 mph. Truck took it like a champ. This was on the tenth of January too.
I forgot to add (I really dont feel like editing) She told the officer which took 25 mins to respond that I slammed on my brakes with no turn signals. Here in Lousiana the law is, if you rear end someone you are in fault. Luckily she had insurance
Reminds me of the day after I graduated senior year. I had a 99 dodge 318, single cab, short bed, 5 speed manual, my buddy had a 76 k5 blazer 350, turbo 350 auto. We hit the ol local mud hole before they shut it down. Knocked the exhaust off mine and nicknamed the blazer "submarine". Haha, good times.
Using a trailer hitch is good only for towing, if you used and you got hit from behind like you have, with more power it could damage the chassi, in this case probably spared a rear bumper for sure, but if it was a smaller car it probably it would bend the frame of the car.
Rear ended a 2017 Silverado 1500 in my 2004 tundra. 15 mph $4,000 dollars in damages all because he had a trailer hitch. The trailer hitch rammed straight through to my radiator. I fixed the entire truck myself while I was in highschool.
It's hard to get insurance companies to cover the depreciation hit after an accident, in that case I'd hope for it to be totaled so you could buy it back, fix it cheap, and pocket the difference.
Pull the #7 fuse and it will disable the daytime running lights. It's the first thing I did to my 97 Tahoe as soon as I got it. I've also disabled it on all of my friends GM vehicles.

Seems you got lucky as well
That happened to my dads truck about two years ago. A Honda mini van hit him and put a good hole in their radiator.
Love the content love the older chevys! An s10 was my first vehicle and did me great 👍🏻
My s10 was a tank got a side impact sitting still perpendicular to me by a lady going 30 in the rear passenger corner with no frame damage a new bed and it would have been like new again
Brian Pardee I still have mine my dad drives it now. Might make a video of a walk around on it
Just bought a 94 s10 blazer with 173k miles for $400
"As usual I have no idea what trouble we're going to get into, but the blazer is ready" 😂 I mean, you were right 😂😂
No fault insurance is only for injuries and medical bills.
Obviously set up from the very start of the video you could tell he’s been getting ready for that
My first car was a $1500 Grand Cherokee. It got rear ended on the trailer hitch and bent the frame rails down and totaled it. Plus the giant dent in the back lift gate.
Sounds like that tan Chevy has a hell of a knock...
With normal cars, not trucks, getting rear ended on the hitch means you bypass the specially designed zones for energy absorption and bring damage directly to the hart of the structure of the car.
I don't get it?? If you rear end a car it's automatically your fault? What about those annoying break checkers that are nothing but insurance scams.
Don't tailgate
Bruce Mcfadin I'm talking about those that cut you off and immediately slam on their breaks.
WooferJr thats why you always keep a distance of atleast one car in between. If you know hes going to cut you off stop pressing on the accelerator
*_"If you rear end a car it's automatically your fault?"_* Nope. Fortunately, that's just a myth. Otherwise insurance scammers, brake-checkers and drivers who roll back into other drivers would always get away with it. But fortunately, the rear-ender is not automatically at fault.
Need to learn to send it and how to rock the truck back and forth , only been stuck once and was only cuz my truck isn’t lifted and so couldn’t go up a incline
I have a 2017 chevy high country and I got rear ended by a bus but my trailer hitch saved me $2000 for a new bumper
Mike what year blazer....??? My mom had a 97 tahoe 2door she bought brand new and drove for 300k on that good ole 5.7 350ci auto all leather black with grey leather...and i had a 96 4 door blue tahoe and a 2000k2500 on 33s all 3 trucks were unstoppable all had a 5.7 350 with 4l60e trans in 2 had 4l80se in them and were amazing snow rain mud
a guy rear ended me in my 1986 Ford F-150. my bumper was good and his wasent. cars these days are weak lol
Cars these days are designed to absorb the impact so your spine doesn't have to. I've seen new cars with the whole front end wiped out just to have some spot welds and seam sealer cut off, new panels put in, and the thing's back on the road in a week good as new.
There’s a thing called crumple zones. Chances are if you both crash into a wall going 60, you’ll see why his car was so messed up.
My dad has a Jeep, and he got rear-ended. This trailer hitch bent in an inch, while this Toyota had its air bags go off. The bumper was untouched.
But seriously though why does Steve’s truck sound like it’s about to throw a rod?! What a P.O.S.
Might want consider using a low-Hz limiter. My subwoofer is going crazy in the 60hz range whenever you're filming while driving.
My dad got hit by the same guy, and he was in the same car and he was on his phone,he spent 5 months in jail, and yeah I live in PA, Alum Bank, I know it was him because it was the same car, and he had the same excuse for us.
You're lying
Nope
How can you identify him?
Hmm
Why would he spend 5 months in jail? Sounds fishy.
I'm surprised that you're alive by getting T-boned at 65mph on a small hatchback. Had it been a full-size pickup truck you wouldn't be here! 😧
@@wooferjr169 till this day it feels surreal...really having a tough week mentally
rip the hyundai...
...just kidding!
A trailer hitch can also bend your frame since it is connected right to it.
Now that's a lot of damage.
ForzaClutch nothing that flex seal can’t fix!
You’re good you’re good *truck starts smoking*
That's steam
In Washington apparently it’s illegal to keep your hitch on but yet never been pulled over for it
fill the hole with rocks and sticks....get out in ten seconds
Reminds me of the day after I graduated senior year. I had a 99 dodge 318, single cab, short bed, 5 speed manual, my buddy had a 76 k5 blazer 350, turbo 350 auto. We hit the ol local mud hole before they shut it down. Knocked the exhaust off mine and nicknamed the blazer "submarine". Haha, good times.
Good thing it was the Tazer and not the 720 or duramax
Or the Raptor
Using a trailer hitch is good only for towing, if you used and you got hit from behind like you have, with more power it could damage the chassi, in this case probably spared a rear bumper for sure, but if it was a smaller car it probably it would bend the frame of the car.
Over reaction
Rear ended a 2017 Silverado 1500 in my 2004 tundra. 15 mph $4,000 dollars in damages all because he had a trailer hitch. The trailer hitch rammed straight through to my radiator. I fixed the entire truck myself while I was in highschool.
At least it was not the McLaren not because it would cost a lot of money to fix but you would of at least lost 25k in depreciation
Cool Guy depression and depreciation 😂
It's hard to get insurance companies to cover the depreciation hit after an accident, in that case I'd hope for it to be totaled so you could buy it back, fix it cheap, and pocket the difference.
Pull the #7 fuse and it will disable the daytime running lights. It's the first thing I did to my 97 Tahoe as soon as I got it. I've also disabled it on all of my friends GM vehicles.
Y’all need to learn more about mudding
This is another thing that makes this channel great, has a super car in his garage but drives a rusty old Chevrolet to keep things exciting and real.
